Chapter 12: Princess Mary

Jessica and Edward quickly formed a close friendship. Jane is relieved that Edward already had friends prior to beginning a new school. Jane understood that Edward was anxious about starting at a new school. Jessica, Anne, and Henry assured Jane that they would take care of Edward, which eased her worries. King Henry is unhappy with Edward attending a public school. King Henry prefers Edward to attend a private school, but Jane wants Edward to go to the same school as his cousins.

Princess Mary was shocked to hear the news that Jane had abandoned her father. She couldn’t believe that Jane would do such a thing. Princess Mary had noticed a woman visiting her dad, and she didn’t like the woman at all. When Jane received a call from Princess Mary, she was asked why she had left her dad. Princess Mary wanted to know if Jane was coming back.

However, Jane had made up her mind and replied, “No, Mary, I am not coming back. I am divorcing your dad.”

Princess Mary was angry and questioned Jane, “Why? Dad loves you!”

But Jane replied, “Your dad does not love me.”

Princess Mary was even more furious and said, “That is not true. Dad loves you very much!”

“Your dad told me that he does not love me. He only married me to give Edward a name,” Jane explained.

“You have to fight for your marriage. Dad is with some horrible witch. You have to come back!” Princess Mary orders.

“I will always be your friend and I will always be there for you. I cannot stay married to your father. I am not happy with your father. Your father and I both deserve to be happy. You need to try to be happy for your dad and give his new girlfriend a chance. You might surprise yourself and become good friends with your future stepmother,” Jane replied.

“I will never be friends with that witch!” Princess Mary exclaimed with a frown on her face.

Jane, who was listening to her, responded with a warning, “You better try to get along with your dad’s new girlfriend or he will banish you. I cannot help you if he does banish you from the castle.”

Princess Mary was furious and replied, “I thought you were my friend!” Jane calmed her down and said, “I am your friend. But is this how a good friend behaves? If you care for me, you will wish me well.”

Princess Mary was not pleased and hung up on Jane. Jane was at a loss for what to do next, and thought about calling Princess Katherine.

“Hi Jane,” Princess Katherine answered the phone. “What can I do for you?”

“I am worried about Mary. She is not happy about Henry and I getting divorced. I tried to talk to her, but she hung up on me. I was wondering if you could talk to her?” Jane pleaded.

“I understand your concern, Jane,” replied Princess Katherine. “I have tried to talk to Mary as well, but unfortunately she does not seem to want to listen. Mary is a very unhappy and angry girl and no one can seem to get through to her. I don’t think there is much we can do to improve how Mary is acting. We’re just going to have to let Mary work out her problems and let her know that we are here for her.”
