Chapter 11: Making New Friends

Jane is shocked by her mother’s treatment towards her, despite always being supportive of her parents. She is frustrated that they couldn’t reciprocate the same level of support. Jane was aware that her brothers wouldn’t be of any help. In response, she decides to travel to Mississippi, hoping that Jackie will assist her in finding a job. Jane is aware that Prince Edward is upset and doesn’t understand why they left his father. She simply informed him that she and his father were having difficulties, without speaking ill of King Henry, as she didn’t want Prince Edward to harbor anger towards his father.

Later, Jane found herself in Mississippi and was surprised that King Henry had not reached out to her yet. She knew that he was likely with a lover, which only added to her disappointment. She decided to book a hotel room for herself and Prince Edward, unsure if Jackie would allow them to stay with her. Eventually, Jane and Prince Edward paid a visit to Jackie’s residence, which was an impressive home with a large yard.

However, Jackie greeted them rudely, asking, “What do you want?!” Undeterred, Jane explained that she had left Henry because she couldn’t tolerate his mistreatment and infidelities.

“Why don’t you stay with your family?!” Jackie asks rudely.

“My parents will not let Edward and me stay with them. My mom slams the door on my face. I’m not asking for a handout, I just need help getting a job,” Jane explains, feeling embarrassed.

Jackie is about to say something, but Anne walks into the living room and interrupts the conversation.

“I will talk to Nancy and I will ask if you and Edward could stay with her until you are able to get your own place. Paul is actually looking for a paralegal,” Anne offers kindly.

“Thank you so much. You have every right to be angry with me,” Jane responds gratefully.

“I was angry with you, but I did not wish you bad. I am really sorry that Henry hurt you. I did not want that to happen,” Anne replied.

She felt terrible about what had happened and wanted to make things right. She knew that Jane needed help, so she called Nancy to see if she could allow Jane and Prince Edward to stay with her until Jane got her own place. Nancy was happy to help and agreed to let them stay. Nancy was proud of Anne for putting her personal feelings aside to help Jane. Paul also agreed to give Jane a job, which was great news. Jane got her things out of the hotel and moved into Nancy’s house with Prince Edward. It was a relief to have a safe and stable place to stay while she got back on her feet.

Jane was walking down the street when she noticed a house for sale next to Nancy’s house. She couldn’t believe her luck. She had always dreamed of owning her own home, and now it seemed like that dream was finally within reach. She had enough money saved up from her years of diligent saving, and her late uncle had left her a substantial amount in his will. She decided to take a closer look at the property and see if it was the right fit for her.

As she was considering making an offer on the house, her phone rang. It was King Henry. She answered the call, but immediately regretted it when she heard his angry tone.

“What do you want?” Jane asked, her own voice growing angry.

“Where are you?!” King Henry demanded.

“I’m in Mississippi,” Jane replied tersely.

“I want you to bring my son back!” King Henry ordered.

“No, I won’t,” Jane said firmly. “I don’t want Edward to become like you. I want him to grow up to be a good man. If you want to see him, you’ll have to come to Mississippi.”

With that, Jane hung up the phone, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She knew she had made the right decision for her and her son, and she was excited to start this new chapter in their lives together.

Jane received a text from King Henry agreeing to come to Mississippi to see Prince Edward. However, it seems that King Henry is not too thrilled about it. Despite his reservations, Jane remains unfazed. All she wants is to see her son happy and thriving.
