Chapter 42

Carmine had felt many things before this, but a new sensation of helplessness and insecurity floated in her mind, manifesting in her eyes as tears. When he stilled beside her, she knew he was going to hate her. After all, she was rejected by her mate. The werewolves regarded it as a truly awful occurrence.

“If” She drew in the air and got up, taking the sheet with her to cover herself. “If you like, I can leave this place. You don’t have to pretend that you like me or-” she shrugged at the loss of words.

Stunned silence followed, in which Theo got up and sat on the edge of the bed.

and then some. He was not only shocked, but he was jealous. Her confession grated on him like an aching tooth on ice and jealousy cringed inside his chest. He never imagined that someone would reject his mate, even in his dreams. To case the burn inside, he rubbed his hand over his chest, but it provided no relief. He felt conflicted, torn between seeking vengeance on the person who rejected her and expressing his anger towards her for keeping this a secret. And when was she rejected? After he met. her or before that?

Rubbing his face with his hands, he felt as though rocks had crushed him,

“Who?” he asked, ignoring the rest of the words. Her confession was like a bucket of cold water on his feelings for her. His erection waned immediately.

Her wolf was sleeping and the most probable cause could be that she was weak or went. through a childhood trauma, but this…..

A mate bond was cherished, and every werewolf looked forward to finding their mate. After a long wait, Theo finally found his mate when he least expected it.

So he was her second chance mate? That made him feel terrible. Not because he found a mate, but what if she didn’t reject her first mate? Worse, what if she hadn’t accepted. the rejection? This was getting complicated by the second.

Sensing her quiet and hearing her silently sniffling, without looking at her, he growled, “Who?”

She jumped back with a loud cry. “Alpha Theo, before you make any judgment, you promise me you will hear me out?”

He was on the verge of rage. His intention was to let his anger out by shifting and allowing his wolf to run until exhaustion. Sucking in sharp air, he got up, wore his boxers and went to pour himself a large glass of whiskey. But instead of pouring himself whiskey, he picked up the bottle and took a large swig. Without turning to look at her, he said, “Okay…” He wasn’t sure what he would do, but he was dying to know the name of the wolf who was her mate.

Carmine’s l*ps quivered. She wiped her tears. “My mate found me when my parents abandoned me. Their intention was for him to kill me, and I believed it would happen, but fate had other plans for me. I survived because my mate was unable to kill me. So he brought me to his pack and kept me locked in a cabin.”

Theo’s eyes widened as he gripped the side of the bar, where numerous bottles of wine and whiskey were stored. He had found her in Kade’s cabin. His claws grew, scraping the wood. F uck.

She continued, “He rejected me after saving me. When I told him I wanted to leave, he didn’t let me go. And the reason was that his wolf wanted me.” She took a ragged breath in. “The moment he rejected me, my wolf let out a painful howl and- and-” Fresh tears ran down her cheeks. “She became silent.” She shook her head. “I tried my best to bring her

up. talk to her, but she wouldn’t come out. I feel like a husk without her, and thought I should give up my life, but then Thor came into

my life.”

Despite his desire to comfort her, his rage prevented him from embracing her, making him more miserable than ever.

“You might think that I am mad, but I seriously don’t know who Thor’s father is? And the reason is that I have lost my sense of smell. But all I know is that my mate isn’t his father.” She grasped the sheet in her hands. “I’m sure you know who my mate is by now. Alpha Kade Marshall of the Blue Moon pack.”

Theo clenched his teeth so hard that it was a wonder his fangs didn’t break. His nemesis, his number one enemy, his stepbrother, was her f ucking mate? He just couldn’t digest that fact. The fact cut through him like a twisted knife. “Did you have S** with him?”

Carmine shook her head and said, “No. But when he saw me at the ball that night, he immediately wanted me back and started devising plans to take me away. But fate intervened when I stumbled upon you, and the rest is history.”

She looked up at him with red-rimmed eyes. “Yes, I took that chance to ask help, but I was desperate. “I was so repulsed by him that I had no choice but to turn to

you for

you for help, as you’re the only person I know in this location.” She lowered her face and hoped the earth would cr ack up and swallow her. She was so selfish. “Please don’t hate me…” she murmured.

Alpha Theo fixated his stare on her, imagining different ways to annihilate and tear apart Kade. He had festered hatred for Kade for so long that it had become a rotten wound inside his heart. And that wound produced poison which traversed in his veins. His muscles bulged and his claws and fangs elongated. He raised his head and unleashed a thunderous roar. The skin on his forearms rippled with fur. This was worse than he had imagined. With one last look at Carmine, he opened the door of the balcony and jumped down, landing on his fours.

“Alpha Theo!” Carmine shouted, running after him, scared to even breathe. Her heart pounded against her chest like drums.

Thunder turned his head up. He bared his teeth and growled at her before sprinting into the woods. In the night chill, Carmine stood on the balcony, covered with a bed sheet, and watched as he faded away into the darkness. Her teeth chattered not due to the cold, but because of impending fear of the future. She clutched the rail with her hand, hoping that he would return, but then she heard a loud painful howl somewhere far in the distance. She lost all hope and sank to the ground with a loud so b.

After what seemed like an eternity, she got up, having made a decision. Perhaps it was time to run away again with her pup.
