Their Silver Moon
Chapter 38 - Happy Endings

Alice Black

“You did what?” he roared, making me flinch at the anger and volume of his voice.

But I met his gaze, “I know.”

“Do you know what I went through? Do you know what I endured? Did you know that I begged for death?” he spat, his body shaking slightly.

“Would you have rather I die fighting him?” I hissed, trying to defend my actions. “How would you have felt, if instead of waking up in this room, with me, you woke up to the sharp pain in your chest, my mark fading off your neck-” I began

“No, that’s not the point,” he objected, crossing his arms and scowling at me.

“How would you have felt, if Seth walked down into that dungeon and told you I was dead! That I had died trying to save you! That I had killed the lives of not just our child, but our children – to save you!” I screamed back.

His gaze dropped as his expression soured even more, “but a treaty?” he said, his voice soft.

I shook my head, and looked away from him too, calming my body, “it’s not a treaty,” I disputed.

“It sounds like a treaty.”

I ran my fingers through my hair in frustration, “really?” I asked.

He looked up at me, clearly pained, “I just don’t understand.”

I sat down on the bed and patted the space next to me, he sat down next to me and I took his hand, lacing my fingers in his, “you once told me, that you did what you thought was best for the pack,” I said softly, as I rubbed his hand with my thumb.

He grunted in agreement, “why do you think this will be good for the pack?”

“Well, while our land spaces increase, we’ll have an opportunity on hand. It won’t just be an alliance with a coven of witches and warlocks, but they will be bound to us, the same way the pack is. Under the next full moon, they will swear the same oath to you, the same oath that everyone else makes, they will have no other option than to obey us.”

It was like a light switch turned on behind his eyes, “dose that mean?”

I nodded, “we won’t just be the most powerful werewolf pack in the world, but also the only one with magic.”

“Plus, I wanted Pet to get her happy ending,” I said softly and Nate’s eyes snapped to mine.

“What? You brought Pet with you?” he said, worry now laced in his eyes, “where is she?”

“With her mate.”

He blinked, “don’t tell me,” he said, the pain clearly written on his face.

I bit my lip and nodded, “it’s Seth.”

He winced as I said the words he was afraid of, “shit.”

“I think I’m going to request that Seth comes back to Savage River, to ensure that there is no uprising here. It also means that Seth and Pet and get to know each other slowly – plus if he slips up we can just kill him.”

“I thought you said they couldn’t be punished for past crimes against the pack,” he said.

“Hurting a member of the Alpha’s family is still very punishable, Nate. And breaking her heart, I would classify as a serious offence.”

Nate smirked and nodded his head slightly and I could almost hear the thoughts that ran through his head, the desire he had to sink his teeth into this man, to take his life, slowly, painfully.

“Let’s go home.”

I took Nathaniel’s hand and lead him through the hallways to the main hall where Pet and Seth met me. It had been a few days since Pet and I had arrived and both Nate and Patricia looked so much better, a glow now seemed to radiate between the new couple – but they moved carefully around each other – like they had not yet touched, like Seth was too afraid to touch his mate.

Nate’s face seemed to be set in a permanent scowl as soon as he lay his eyes on Seth, who smiled awkwardly, “it’s wonderful to see you’re doing better, Alpha Black,” he said, throwing me a nervous glance as Nate’s eyes flashed black and he growled deeply.

I cleared my throat awkwardly, “shall we leave then?” I asked, and I gestured for Pet to come stand beside me.

“Brother,” she said softly, and Nate’s facial expression softened as he looked at Pet, and I knew he could see the release she had been given since meeting Seth, he knew the pain all to well and I could see the sympathy in his eyes.

Seth clicked his fingers and waved his hand dramatically and a golden circle appeared on the back of the door, “where would you like it to take us?” he asked.

“To the pack house in Savage River, I’m sure you’re familiar with it,” I replied.

Seth smirked and dropped his gaze, “yes, I am sorry about that,” he said before mumming some words I couldn’t hear nor understand. He then stepped to the side, and gestured, “Ladies first,” he cooed.

Patricia stepped through the portal first, disappearing into the light and onto hard ground on the other side. As I stepped through, I saw Nate turned to Seth and mutter something that I couldn’t quite understand, but as Seth followed Nate through the portal, his skin looked colourless and a morbidity on his face. He glanced between myself and Nate before staring straight ahead.

I was about to ask Nate when I heard glass shattering and turned to see Jamie standing at the top of the stairs, where he’d dropped something made of glass that was now scattered across the tile floor, his mouth agape and his blue eyes wide open.

“Where the hell have you been?” he asked.
