Chapter 11: The Hunt Begins

The orange sun sunk behind the horizon marking the end of the day but the beginning of the hunt. Fear, anxiety, exhilaration and blood lust filled the air as the hunters and the hunted waited for the games to begin. Some were praying for some miracle to come and save them, others were looking forward to what is to come. Tom, Theresa and Tanya sat on their bikes waiting for the start whistle to sound.

The construction of the amusement park made it impossible to escape even with a vehicle. It had a tall thick wall around it. Most people could not see it because of how big the park was but if someone went deep enough he would find it. The only way out was the main gate so it was either you comply to the hunt or you perish trying to escape. Wonderland had not just been an amusement park, in the old world it was also a game park, so the land it occupied was vast.

“Ladies and gentlemen our king Ceaser was generous enough to give you a head start, I hope you have taken your positions because now its time to begin” a voice echoed through the speakers “as the romans would say, let the games begiiiiiiin” he concluded and a loud siren sounded

The sound of cars, bikes roared through the woods. Guns being shot in the air and swords hitting against each other created such noise one could not hear themself think. The hunters were no coming and by the way they screamed they had been looking forward to this day for a very long time.

Tom cranked his bike and it roared, so did the girls. It was time, there was no turning back from this.

“All for one” he said

“One for all” replied the girls

Xin who was a short distance from them smiled admiring their unity. The hunters either worked as groups or alone depending on how powerful they were. Among the hunters there were powerful people too namely Silus, Lysias, Dereck and Charlotte. These were the top hunters under Ceaser.

The hunted took off deeper i to the woods where they had the greater advantage while others remained just waiting to be slaughtered.

“Lets go Faye!!!! Pleasee” yelled a woman as she tried to get her friend to stand up

“No we are already dead, we aren’t going to make it” replied Faith who just sat on the ground hopeless

“Okay folks its almost time for the hunters to come, lets count down ten!!!” yelled the voice from the speaker

“Faye please, they are coming!!!!” screamed the girl as she tried to get her friend to follow

“Nine!!”

“But you promised you’d survive Fayeeee!!!” she yelled her eyes watering

“Eight”

The countdown went on as Faye remained glued to her position. Seeing how hard her friend was trying to keep her alive, she felt bad and decided to stand up and give it a try but

“Zero!!!!”

Before she could fully stand blood splashed in her face, the shock sending her falling back down. The lifeless body of her friend fell down on top of her, eyes still wide open. The roaring of engines and people made the place a domain of chaos. Bikes passed by them, dirt falling onto her. She was so afraid she could not even move.

Oh no Sammy, I’m sorry….I don’t wat to die the realization that any wrong move would mark her end brought her back to reality

“Lets promise each other one thing, Sammy” said Faye smiling at her friend

“Yes what is that Faye”

“Lets survive nomatter what”

The memories came flooding in involuntarily.

“Sammy please wake up” she whispered to her lifeless friend

She decided it was time to run and hide. Looking around there was silence, it seemed the hunters had also gone down after the other prisoners. She gently put her friend’s body aside and stood up. The moment she stood erect, her knees weakened. She could see a shadow big enough it covered her. A gun clicked behind her and she slowly began to turn only to come face to face with the hollow barrel of a giant revolver.

Behind the gun stood four huge figures, three male and one female. They looked just like Ceaser, pale grey skin with black veins protruding on top of it. Their mere presence alone made her feel like an ant standing up against humans.

God I don’t want to die

The gun went off and her brain matter splashed in the air.
