After Sunday, I let myself escape the gravity of my situation again. I fell asleep to the dangerous situation I was going to be thrown into. I was going to have to fight my mom and yet I did not feel afraid or sad towards it. I couldn’t feel a thing towards the many lives that were going to be given up including the possibility of my own. After I walked across the stage at graduation Saturday, we had a party and celebrated. The next day I was saying goodbye to Grandpa Harrison and Grandma Christina. They wished me well and hoped I would do good. Well Grandpa Harrison said that he knew I would do good. Grandma Christina tends to be a little more... I guess you could say she worries a lot more. But in this situation I think Grandma Christina’s fear was more accurate. Aaron and Rachel gave me a hug goodbye. Aaron said to be careful and do what has to be done... which he was referring to me killing our mother. Rachel was quiet about my leaving; to be honest I don’t think she knew what to say. I was okay with that though, it was not like we were very close.

After the goodbyes, Ace, Trey and I went to meet Aunt Nikki back with at the rebellion’s camp. The first week there was full of strategy meetings and figuring out how to go about this. We ended up deciding on Sunday evening, we were just going to have to go for it full on and hope the element of surprise was good enough to take them down. We have good numbers, but were we trained enough to take on extremely well trained royal guards?

“Alice, we are going to try our best to get a path cleared for you.” Nikki said bring me back into the meeting.

“Yes, but I can’t take her on on my own.”

“But what about the Golde...” I cut her off.

“My mother has fallen to her demon. I do not want to do the same.”

Nikki nodded. “Ace and Trey will go with you. Between the three of you, you should be able to take her down.”

“Perfect.” I zoned out again for the rest of the meeting. The meeting carried on until dinner time. When we finally finished we went to the kitchen tent and ate. Everyone was talking, feasting and having the time of their lives as I silently watched. Everyone was living it up and drinking heavily as if they were never going to get the chance again. The gravity of my situation finally sunk in. I felt the feeling that I might die the next day. I looked over to see Trey talking and having a good time with Ace.

“Alice, are you alright?” Aunt Nikki asked as she sat next to me on the ground.

“Yeah, just thinking. Where is Uncle Alex? Is he not going to fight with us?”

“No, we have a little boy to protect. They are with his family back on Earth. I’m sort of shocked you never accidentally ran into him being so close to him and all.”

“What? When did this happen?”

“Well our son Joshua is now 5, so he has been back home with his family for 5 years. I visit them often, but one of us has to lead and the other needs to be there for our son. I was more qualified for leading this rebellion and well his family still does not completely like me so I stayed here.”

“Oh, I’m sorry, this situation must be tough, but you will be reunited with them soon, right?” I said faking a smile and confidence.

“Yep. After the war, they are coming home to me.” she said with a big smile.

It was getting dark. I looked over to Trey’s direction and he was getting up and leaving. “I-I am going to go to bed. I need my rest for tomorrow.” I said excusing myself from Aunt Nikki. She nodded. After I got up Trey was already gone. I walked over to his big sized general’s tent and called to him.

“Trey?”

“Alice?” he popped his head out. “What do you want?”

“To be with you. I don’t want to be alone tonight.”

“Go to Ace’s tent, he will gladly let you stay with him.”

“Don’t do this to me. Not now.” My eyes were beginning to well up. “What if one of us dies tomorrow? I want to hold you just for tonight incase I will never see you again.”

He looked around and saw people looking at us arguing. He sighed and pulled me into his tent.

“Look! After the war you aren’t going to see me again, dead or not.”

“Why do this to me?” a tear started to fall down my cheek.

He pulled me into his bare chest. “The better question is why do you do this to me? Why do you insist on torturing me like this? Don’t you see I love you enough to let you go? You belong with someone better.”

I pulled away. “No, I belong with you.”

He pulled me into a kiss and we began to makeout. We eventually laid down and he held me in his arms that night. I wanted us to be like this forever. I managed to sleep that night being next to Trey’s warm body. It was not long because I was still slightly afraid for tomorrow, but I felt a little more secure in his arms.
