The date started off with us eating dinner out together. We went to a nearby, small business Italian Restaurant; Ace drove us there. After dinner we played miniature golf. It was a good start with great conversation and fun, but it felt like it was missing something. It was missing the passion. Ever since Trey cursed me with that kiss back on the bus, I couldn’t find anything better or even the same. He poisoned my heart.

“Alice? Are you okay?” Ace asked me while we were on the last hole. I think he realized I realized my realization of our situation.

“Uh-yeah, just concentrating. I want to get a hole in one.”

“Alice..” I felt his hand rest on my back. “Are you happy?”

“Yes, we are having fun. This is fun.” I pointed at the hole with my club to iterate this. I tried to line myself up when he continued the conversation after his sigh.

“Yeah, being with a good friend is fun, but are you happy with us trying to date?”

“I - uh.. ” I froze staring at the hole. He saw right through me.

“Take your time on a relationship path. Don’t rush into something with me. I want you to be happy, even if it is not with me.”

“I’m sorry, Ace, I just wanted to not think about him.” I said moving my head and looking at him.

“I know, and I’m okay. But next time, let’s just do this as friends. Unless you know you want to be with me.” He said with a wink after the last sentence.

“Okay.” I said while looking back and lining up my shot. I hit it and it went into the hole. “Hole in one.”

“Congrats, you beat me pretty good.”

After miniature golf, we went home and to our separate rooms for the night. It was a good time, but what it came down to was, I love him as if he were Aaron. I don’t think we could have a relationship as lovers when I think of him as a brother. Would I be able to get over that? I didn’t know.
