Chapter 100

“Leslie isn’t like that, Mom.”

“Just because you know her doesn’t mean you know what she’s thinking. Chelsea told me many teachers approach Leslie when she comes to the art studio to pick Chelsea up.”

Leslie could not take it anymore and left. She waited for Grace to leave before returning home.

Christopher was in the kitchen cooking when Leslie opened the door and entered. Christopher had just finished work and did

not have time to change his clothes. He wore slacks and a light blue shirt, exuding an attractive demeanor. He appeared gentlemanly and steady while holding the pan.

Christopher was the same person who saved Leslie’s life many years ago. He left a profound impression on Leslie’s heart. Despite his second marriage and Leslie being six to seven years older, Leslie had never forgotten about him when she finished high school.

Although Christopher was married before and Leslie was older than him, she entered his life without hesitation.

Chelsea was on the sofa watching cartoons. When she saw Leslie, she said sweetly, “Hi, Leslie.”

Leslie felt disappointed. She remembered only briefly chatting with Chelsea’s art teacher about her classes during her visit to the studio. No one else spoke to Leslie. Somehow, Chelsea told Grace many male teachers were trying to approach Leslie.

“Leslie, what’s wrong?” Chelsea nervously blinked when she noticed Leslie staring at her. “Did I do something wrong again?”

“Honey, you’re back.” Christopher came out of the kitchen and greeted Leslie warmly.

“Dad, Leslie seems a bit upset,” Chelsea said cautiously, “I said hi, but she ignored me.”

“I didn’t ignore you. I was just thinking about something.” Leslie felt bitter. She did not want to deal with Chelsea. Chelsea was young but was more sly than the average adult.

Leslie did not say a word since entering the house. She knew Chelsea’s words and actions were full of hidden intentions.

“It’s okay, Chelsea. Leslie isn’t upset. Just continue watching TV.” Christopher comforted his daughter.

Then he led Leslie into the kitchen and said, “Don’t worry about Chelsea. She’s sensitive because of the divorce. She’s afraid

we won’t like or want her.”

Leslie knew Chelsea was not afraid of being abandoned. The little girl was just hoping to make her father not like Leslie.

“Well, I didn’t overthink it,” Leslie replied softly.

“That’s good! How’s Lisa doing in her new place? Is she adjusting well?” Christopher said, “If you’re worried, I’ll see if I can arrange a single dorm for her at the university.”

“There’s no need for that. I went to check the place out, and it looks good.” She felt slightly comforted by Christopher’s concern for her family. She rolled her sleeves and said, “Let me cook with you, honey.”

“Sure.” Christopher smiled. It was heartwarming to cook together as a couple after work. He believed spending more time with Leslie and Chelsea at home was essential, even with his busy schedule.

However, they did not have much time together before Chelsea interrupted them. “Dad, come here. How do I read this word?”

“I’ll just go and have a look,” Christopher said in a gentle voice as he quickly dealt with Chelsea.

Leslie stood there with an unsurprised smirk as if saying, ‘Just as I expected.’
