CHAPTER-5

FOUR YEARS LATER:

‘Moon Goddess, please save me!’ I was running through the forest to the main road aimlessly when a sharp light hit my gaze. I closed my eyes abruptly, screaming and hugging myself and in the next second something hard knocked my body and I was shoved away roughly. I felt an immense pain all over. Faint voices greeted my ears but I was too numb and in pain to decipher anything happening around me until someone near me cursed loudly.

And I knew the last few words I heard would change my life forever.

‘F**k! Nathan, I found your Mate!’

Xylia snapped open her eyes, sitting upright. She looked around, wiping the sweat on her forehead and sighed in relief realizing it was another nightmare but it was a reality from the past where she was saved luckily.

Tip tip tip!

Xylia could hear the sound of water drops clearly from her washroom. The enhanced hearing and vision abilities she got after turning twenty become problematic sometimes for her.

Sighing, Xylia pulled her body out of the bed and did her morning routine. It’s been two years since Xylia started her job in Elrod enterprise. Today she was going to an important meeting with the Italian clients.

She gave herself one last look in the mirror when her gaze suddenly shifted to the stormy silver eyes that were looking intensely at her in the mirror and Xylia’s heart slowed down.

“Good morning, Love!”

Xylia closed her eyes, took a deep breath and turned around to face him.

“Theo….”

“Can’t you take today off from your work? Mommy.” His hopeful eyes melted her heart and Xylia sighed.

“I’m sorry, But I have to go today. We have our weekend free, then we will go out for dinner, what say?” She smiled enthusiastically but he didn’t budge.

“No! I want you today itself. We will stay home and cook dinner together!”

He was being stubborn again and Xylia crossed her arms across her chest and gave him a stern look.

“Thunder Cortez, Your holidays are already over so it’s time for you to go back to school. Hansley will take you there today.” She said pointedly and Thunder sighed. He pulled a long face, looking at her.

“Mommy, I just want to spend some time with you. You know I’m not feeling well these days.” He turned to sit on her bed. Xylia raised her eyebrows at her three years old son who had already received an award for her brilliant acting on the school stage.

Thunder’s birth was not normal as he already developed a few supernatural powers in her womb. He was way more ahead of his age. He was one intelligent child. Probably took after his father. Those lycan genes!

Xylia shook her head, forcing herself not to think about anything she left four years ago. Especially about the man who was still haunting her dreams.

She walked to Thunder, crouched down to his level and cupped his cheeks before kissing his small nose. “Alright! Mommy has an important meeting today but I will come back home early, after it is finished. Till then, promise me you won’t trouble your Aunt Hansley, okay?”

And his silver eyes flashed amusing stars as he smirked and kissed his mother’s cheeks. “Okay, Mommy. As you say!” Xylia narrowed her eyes at his features.

“Hmm! Tomorrow we are going to the Dusk Claws pack to take your medical reports. Are you ready?” She looked at her son who nodded. Xylia’s heart was crushed when she came to know about his chronic disease in his rare blood. But no doctor could recognize it until Nathan appointed a special Doctor for him. They run a few tests in his blood, the reports of which will come tomorrow.

“Yes, Love. I’m all ready. If you are with me, nothing can happen to me.” He grinned from ear to ear before kissing her forehead. The endearment, the gesture his father used to do to her. Xylia pulled him into a tight hug and sighed. His looks, his talks and his intelligence, everything He took after Theodore but one difference they had was Thunder loves her more than his father ever did to her.

“I see, this lil sneaky pup is on to something, huh!” A brunette walked out from the kitchen as they came downstairs. Thunder smirked at her.

“If you babysit me then I can’t sit idle and not entertain you, you like my colourful stunts, Hans!” Hansley Elrod, her only friend, squinted her eyes at the little firecracker.

Xylia giggled. “Bye, guys!”

“At least have a quick breakfast before going. I’m sure Nathan won’t mind.” Hansley offered her before placing a plate of lasagna in front of Thunder who had seated himself on the dining table already.

Xylia shook her head and kissed her cheek. “No! He will, because the meeting is in half an hour. I gotta go.” She said, taking her purse and walking out hurriedly. Hansley sighed but she was happy for her and Nathan at least they got their happiness together.

As Xylia opened the door, she was surprised to see him standing near the door.

“Hey sweet mate, ready to go!”

And she sighed once again.

“You didn’t have to come here, Nathan. You know, I don’t like those questioning gazes of your people in the office whenever they see us together.” Xylia said, settling into his car and they headed towards his company.

Nathaniel Elrod was one of the strong Alpha of the Dusk Claws pack in the southern side of California. And because of his charming bachelor billionaire personality, he was always the news of the town.

“That’s their problem sweety, you are my mate and that matters more. I don’t care about anything.” He said, shrugging his shoulders.

“But I do. I’m just… uncomfortable, Nathan. You and Hansley are my best friends and I don’t want any problem between us. You know me well, I don’t want them to think of me in other ways?”

“What other ways?” He asked pointedly. Xylia sighed. “Like a gold digger or..”

“Lia…” He interrupted her before turning serious. “You are not any random girl but my mate. I respect your privacy, your emotions and your situation. That’s why I have waited for you this long because you wanted time to accept me, to accept us. Don’t think about others and their thoughts but me, Just me. Okay! I’m here for you, always. Nobody can raise their eyes at you let alone their voices as long as I’m by your side.” He took her hand and kissed her knuckles.

Xylia reluctantly nodded. Nathan was everything that any girl would want in a mate. A strong and reputed Alpha and gentleman too. But her heart couldn’t accept him in any way because it had already printed someone else’s name on it.

Someone who could never be hers again, Who had hurt her in the worst way possible but was still adamant about not getting out of her mind and heart even after four years.

“We are here!” Nathan pulled her out of her reverie and stepped out before coming to her side and opening the door for her. Xylia rolled her eyes at his gesture.

“You don’t need to act all nice and gentlemanly. Your charm is enough for any girl to fall for you.” She smiled.

“Any girl but not you.” He hummed before they moved towards the elevator to go to his office floor. Xylia ignored his words as they entered his office.

“So what’s your plan this weekend? Dad asked me to invite you for a family dinner!”

Xylia sighed as they took their seats in his office. “I promised Thunder to take him out this weekend. It’s been days that we haven’t spent time together.”

“I understand. We can postpone the dinner but Thunder won’t mind me intervening on your weekend, right!” He winked at her before passing her instant coffee which his beta cum secretary Karen had already set for them.

“Why would he? You are his favourite buddy.” Xylia shrugged her shoulders and Nathan looked at her. He put his cup on the table before sitting beside her. He cupped Xylia’s face and looked at her with affection.

“Four years I have waited for you and to win Thunder’s heart, Xylia. You have no idea how painful it is to stay away from your mate when she is just a step away from you. I want to give you and Thunder all the happiness you both deserve. But I need my Luna beside me, I need my mate beside me.”

Xylia bit her lower lip and swallowed the thick lump in her throat. She squeezed his hand before nodding.

“Thank you so much for being patient with me, Nathan. Thank you for everything you and Hansley have done for me. If not for you guys, I might not be alive today.” Nathan shook his head but Xylia kept saying, “I know I have asked for more time to accept this mate bond, but please try to understand my situation. You know I’m human and this feeling is not relatable to me. Breaking out from one relationship and Unexpectedly finding your mate is just.. So overwhelming…”

“Hey…shh. Lia, calm down. I am sorry sweety, I didn’t mean to hurt you in any way. Don’t cry!” Only then Xylia realized she was crying and getting hyper, recalling her past.

“I’m sorry Nathan, I am probably the worst mate for you. Moon goddess should give you the one you deserve..”

“So you think you can get rid of me this soon by praying to the Moon goddess to give me another mate? Not a chance, you are stuck with me in this life, sweet cheeks.” Nathan narrowed his eyes at her to which she smiled. He always finds a way to cheer her up.

“Anyways, I have waited for you long, a little long won’t hurt me. And also, you won’t ditch me, a sizzling and strong Alpha for anyone else. So I am at ease.” He boasted. Xylia chuckled.

She still didn’t believe how she found good people like him and Hansley when she lost every hope in her life. She used to hate werewolves but now They have become her second family. When she was on the verge of taking her last breath, Hansley came and saved her and her unborn child.

“I hope my sister is taking care of you well, after all she has given this duty specially.”

Xylia rolled her eyes. “More like an order. You literally put her into my apartment to look after us. Now She is a babysitter to Thunder and I can’t thank her enough for that.” Xylia smiled.

“That’s what she is supposed to do after all. If not for her, I might never be able to find you. That was the best day of my life when I first met you even though you were in a messed up state.” He said looking into her beautiful hazel-brown eyes.

Xylia smiled softly at him. If she met him four years ago, she would definitely have fallen for him because Nathan was her type of guy but now She lost her interest in every guy.

“Let’s go! The meeting is about to start.” Nathan pulled her out of her thoughts and they walked together into the meeting room.

After the Meeting was done, Mr Antonio, former Alpha of the crescent moon pack approached Xylia to invite her to his party after seeing her skills and designs which he approved.

“A human, huh!” He chuckled. “Nice to meet you, Miss…”

“Lia Cortez!” Xylia immediately shook hands with him and Antonio stared at her from close.

“Lia!” He repeated her name slowly. She smiled professionally.

“I think I have seen you somewhere before, Lia Cortez!” And her smile dropped on her face.
