Chapter 17

Serena’s POV

We’re both doing great.

Things are back to the way we were before the incident, with Dominic and I waking up early on weekdays, going for walks in the park on weekends, and trying our best to have dinner together. We’re both quite busy but that doesn’t stop us from spending some time with each other.

“Could you please adjust my schedule for today?” I ordered my secretary.

“Yes ma’am.”

Now that our life is back on track, I can go back to work without interruption. No more hyperventilating when Dominic gets mad at me, no more being unable to think straight. It used to be so overwhelming, like a ton of bricks pressing down on me, all the tasks I had to do for work and our relationship felt impossible.

But fortunately, we managed to overcome all the problems. Although we would like to bring the kids with us when Dominic and I go out, the Blackwood empire is already aware of our situation. We have no choice but to keep them hidden from the public eye because there’s always a chance that someone might be watching us from afar.

While reading papers and waiting for my schedule, I couldn’t help but think that something seems missing. Since Dominic and I reconciled, my life seems to have quieted down, with no disturbances.

I tried to ignore it and convince myself to be content with what I have now. However, I couldn’t help but find myself looking at the door of my office every now and then, as if I were waiting for someone to arrive.

“Ma’am, here is your schedule for today. You have a meeting with the marketing head again, the head of the marketing team has some suggestions. And lunch with Sir Dominic later. He will pick you up.”

“That’s it?” I asked in surprise.

“Yes, Ma’am. You don’t have much on your schedule for today.”

I bit my l*p. Well, if that is the case, then my workload isn’t that heavy for the day. After the meeting with the marketing team, I’ll just wait for Dominic to come and have lunch together.

After a short while, I stood up and tidied up to head straight to the main meeting office for each department of my company. I was surprised because everyone was already

there, and I was late.

“What time was the meeting scheduled for them?‘ I asked my secretary when I saw her since I came here first.

“Exactly at eleven. Ma’am.”

I’m thirty minutes late: it’s already eleven thirty.

I hurriedly went to my seat and started listening to the head of the marketing team.

hile he was explaining the factors on how the product would impact the youth and how sales would increase, I couldn’t help but let my attention wander.

I really can’t stay calm. It’s been days, and my life has been like this. Suddenly, everything seems normal again. I know this is how it should be. but why am I not happy or content?

“And the sales will improve if you approve of the idea we came up with. Ma’am.”

Is it because I’m not being bothered by Damon’s siblings? Is it because I haven’t seen them in action yet? Or is there another specific reason?

“Ma’am:

“Huh?”

I looked at my secretary and realized she was pointing at the projector where the marketing department was presenting to me.

“They’re asking if you agree, Ma’am.”

Even though I didn’t understand what they were saying and couldn’t catch up. I nodded, “Y–yes! Yes. that’s a good idea.”

The marketing department immediately thanked me, and one by one, they left the meeting office. I closed my eyes tightly and stood up while massaging my head. I heard my secretary speak beside me..

“Ma’am, it seems like you’re not yourself. Is there something on your mind? I noticed you seem to be waiting for someone. Are you waiting for Sir Dominic? Or that handsome guy who sometimes comes to your company? What’s his name again? Sir Damon? Is he single?”

I looked at her slowly with a poker face and sarcastically replied, “Never mention Damon to me. Instead of bothering with such things, focus on your work. I’m leaving: I’ll wait for Dominic.”

‘Oh, I’m sorry, Ma’am. I was just asking.”

She immediately left, and I couldn’t help but reflect on what I had said. I ended up appearing grumpy when, usually, I’m not like that. Perhaps it was because of stress that she suddenly assumed I was waiting for Damon.

But I wasn’t.

I looked at the clock and realized it was almost one in the afternoon. The meeting happened over an hour ago, and I didn’t understand anything they said. I quickly grabbed my cellphone and texted my secretary to provide a summary of the marketing department’s presentation today via email.

Shortly after sending the message, Dominic arrived.

“Hey, how’s your day and work? Is everything okay?”

I gave him a faint smile and k*ssed him on the cheek, “I’m okay. Maybe just a bit out of it. Perhaps I’m tired or sleep–deprived? Or maybe I’m just hungry, so let’s grab something to eat.”

I held his hand and was about to walk towards his car when he stopped me. I looked back at Dominic over my shoulder and noticed a furrowed brow.

“Is there something else on your mind that’s bothering you? I know you might not say it outright, but something seems off.”

And there he is, asking questions.

I bit my tongue and didn’t immediately respond to his question. Honestly, I didn’t. know how to explain my feelings either. But for the sake of calming him, I answered.

“I’m scared of the Blackwood because they might suddenly take action since the incident with Charlotte here in the parking lot.”

For some unknown reason, I wasn’t satisfied with my answer because it felt like something was missing, but I let it be.

I was surprised when he suddenly took my hand and gently squeezed it. His eyes were saying that he would protect me no matter what happens.

“Don’t worry too much. I’ll do everything to ensure your safety and make sure that your children won’t fall into the hands of the Blackwood empire, okay?”

I stared at Dominic as he uttered those words. The sincerity in his eyes was evident. I closed my eyes tightly and smiled at him with all my heart.

“Thank you, darling…”

It’s true. I am truly grateful to him because without him, I really wouldn’t know what to

do with my life.

-We

We headed to the restaurant where we usually dine.

The rest of my afternoon went on as usual. After having lunch and enjoying our meals, we were about to head home when Dominic suddenly thought of passing by the mall to buy toys for the kids and some snacks.

“Hey, it’s okay. Let it be. You’re spoiling the kids too much-”

“Let me do these things because I want to see the kids happy. Where their hearts are light, that’s where we should be.“.

And I couldn’t do anything but sigh as he headed straight to the mall. I let out a breath but k*ssed him on the check and squeezed his hand on the steering wheel.

When we reached our destination, we wandered around the mall. It didn’t take us long to buy food and toys for the kids, so now we were just strolling around in case we found something we liked or thought of buying.

“Wait a moment, darling, I’ll just check this out.”

Just like now, Dominic stopped in front of a store selling expensive watches.

“Sure, I’ll wait for you outside.”

“Don’t you want to come inside?”

I shook my head, “Nope. I’ll just wait for you here. Don’t worry.”

“Okay, I’ll be quick.”

And he quickly went inside. I was left outside. To pass the time, I took out my cellphone and started scrolling, checking emails when suddenly someone bumped into my cellphone. It almost fell, but fortunately, I caught it just in time.

“Hey, why don’t you watch where you’re going-”

However, when I looked up, I was surprised to see the three siblings in front of me.

“Well, well, well if it isn’t the new princess in town.”

My heart pounded quickly, but I didn’t show it to them. I quietly continued scrolling on my cellphone to call Dominic while keeping an eye on them.

They all had their respective shopping bags, and it seemed like they also went around the mall for shopping. And if I wasn’t unlucky enough, I bumped into them. I knew deep down that earlier I was complaining because it felt like something was missing, as

Dominic’s family hasn’t reached out.

Now, I regret it..

“I don’t have time for you,” I rolled my eyes and was about to step away when Victoria suddenly grabbed my wrist. It was tight, and I could sense a threatening grip.

“And where do you

think you’re going?”

I took a deep breath and slowly turned to face them, raising my eyebrow.

“To get away from annoying pests like you, or I might catch a contamination.”

I swatted Victoria’s hand away, pretending to be disgusted by her. I turned. my them because I knew they only wanted trouble.

However, I hadn’t taken three steps away when they forcibly grabbed both my shoulders and dragged me away. My eyes widened, and I was about to protest when Charlotte covered my mouth with a cloth.

I couldn’t resist!

“Do you think we’ll let you get away with that? Even if you scream here, the security. won’t help you. We can pay them to stay silent and pretend they saw nothing.”

I struggled, trying to break free, even as I was slowly succumbing to drowsiness from the smell of the cloth. They laughed, and my hope dwindled further as I noticed their guards surrounding us.

Breaking away from them seemed almost impossible right now when, suddenly, my vision slowly darkened.
