Never had I met someone who wanted to expedite her own demise.

Standing behind Colin, I could see Jasmine's every gesture clearly. Her eyes sparkled with hope when she mentioned the gift. They were transfixed on Colin. Love threatened to overflow from her orbs. She truly believed that the man she had saved would prepare a gift she'd love a lot.

I was sure that she had feelings for Colin. Unfortunately, love couldn't be shared. Colin loved me, and he had no more love left for her. No matter how much she loved him, I'd never let her take him away from me.

Something swelled within my chest. It was the fearlessness to protect my love and the man of my dreams. I was like the beast who had to protect its territory, even if it meant I'd bleed.

"Of course, we brought a present with us. It's your birthday, Jasmine. As your former schoolmates, we couldn't come empty-handed." I appeared from behind Colin and smiled politely. Ignoring the disbelief on Jasmine's face, I gave her the beautifully wrapped present.

She was shocked. Jealousy and rage surged into her eyes. The frozen smile on her face turned into a grimace. Frowning, she did not accept my gift. The disgust in her eyes was palpable.

"Oh, isn't this our junior who majored in art? I see she has grown into a fine woman after all these years," said a man who was walking toward us, oblivious to the tension that was unfolding between Jasmine and me.

"What's inside the present box, Jasmine? I know birthdays and other important dates are very important to you girls. The gift is so beautifully wrapped, so it must be something nice. Go on, Jasmine. Open it and show us."

His proposition was backed by Colin's friends. I gazed at the man gratefully, to which he replied with a polite nod. Had he not asked Jasmine to open the gift, Jasmine and I would be stuck in this awkward position.

It was her birthday, but she insisted on pulling these underhanded tricks, which would inevitably backfire on herself. Couldn't she just celebrate her birthday happily?

Moreover, Colin had made it clear that he did not have any feelings for her. Why did she insist on continuing to pester him? Didn't she know that she would only embarrass herself in front of everyone? Jasmine continued to smile wryly as she accepted my gift. She began to open the gift under everyone's expectant cheers. My heart was pounding, and I looked at Colin.

While Jasmine did go overboard many times, she was nonetheless Colin's savior. Did I pick a mean gift? For a second, I wanted to take the present back. Colin winked at me. He put his hand on my shoulder to comfort me.

A green box appeared once Jasmine unwrapped the present. As she opened it, a delicate luggage tag emblazoned with the words "Pick Me!" came into the public's view.

The crowd exclaimed. "Woah, what a beautiful pick-me luggage tag. I heard it's expensive. You're so generous, Luna."

I wanted to cover my eyes. They should just call it a luggage tag. There was no need to point out what was obvious.

As everyone discussed and complimented the craftsmanship of the luggage tag, no one seemed to notice the significance of the words "pick me."
