The constant darkness of the void opened up.

The warmth of the sun through tall windows that looked out over a city I’d come to find comforting told me where I was.

But why was I there?

“Welcome back, little Reaper.”

His voice hitched the breath in my lungs.

I turned to find Sitri and Ezequiel standing with me in the living room. Their faces were a mix of relief, hope, and something else. It was akin to the feeling that was welling up in my chest as I took in the sight of my two men.

“How am I here?” I fought back tears, wanting to hear every word.

“We called in a few favors, owe a few new debts, and may have to take a few lives, but the exchange was well worth it,” Ezequiel admitted, opening his arms for me to leap into.

Happiness purer than I’d felt in my short existence flooded every bit of my body. With my arms wrapped around Ezequiel’s neck, I kissed his cheeks, nose, then finally his lips. He was real. Solid. Mine.

He set me down, and I looked at Sitri next. I knew part of him was still reluctant, but I wasn’t going to allow that to stop me from holding him close.

“Thank you for bringing me back,” I said into his chest.

I breathed him in. Strength, power, and home.

“This is where you belong, Dabria. With us.”

“With you?” I said, looking up into his eyes.

He leaned down and kissed me softly. “With me.”
