Chapter 1694 After a hot and steaming plate of rice was served in front of Caprice by her father, she thanked her father lovingly, “Thank you, Daddy.” John smiled gently. “You're welcome, Caprice.” He picked up another plate and prepared to scoop Sylvia's portion into it. Sherry snatched the plate from him with an unruly frown and did it herself instead. Then she sat down and ate without a word. John fell silent for a moment, then he got himself a plate and joined them at the dining table. Apart from the clatter of utensils, there was not so much as a whisper heard at the table. After her portion, Caprice announced, “I want to drink some soup!” John took a bowl and filled it to the brim for her. Caprice smiled. “Thank you, Daddy.” “You're welcome.” Caprice drank the soup and savored every drop. John turned to Sherry and suggested, “It's Saturday tomorrow and Caprice said she wants to go to the beach. Let's take her to the beach together.” Sherry held the spoon stiffly in her hand and turned down his invitation. “I have something very important to do tomorrow, you can go with Caprice.” He squinted suspiciously. “What's so important tomorrow?” She scowled and looked at him pointedly. “Why do you have so many questions today?” He smirked in his usual candid way. “Just making small talk, why are you so grumpy today? I noticed that you're grumpier than usual today.” This strung Sherry’s nerves. Her temper was flaring up. She felt like she was going to lose control and pummel John like a rag doll. She had to control herself because Caprice was here with them. She took a deep breath and exerted a great deal of effort to control the pitch of her voice.” John, are you trying to test my patience? Do you want me to kick you out?” As soon as she said this, Caprice spoke up and defended John, “Mommy, don't kick Daddy out please.” She lifted her head from the bowl of soup and pleaded. Sherry took a breath and forced herself to smile, albeit unconvincingly. “Mommy is just kidding.” “Really?” “Really.” Caprice breathed a sigh of relief, then she turned her attention back to the most important matter at hand, the bow! of soup. Sherry glared at John again. John grinned, fully aware that this was only going to provoke her further. “Are you sure you won't go out with Caprice tomorrow?” Sherry's voice came out like a beastly growl. “Like I said, I have something very important to do tomorrow, you can go with Caprice.” John lowered his eyes and stopped pestering her. Sherry suddenly grew nervous. What was with this reaction? Did he find out that she was going to get engaged to Carl tomorrow? No, he would not be so quiet if he knew. Besides, so what if he knew? Even if her engagement with Carl was just for show, it did not change the fact that she was not going to repair her relationship with John no matter what! When she affirmed herself of this, the restlessness in her heart died away. After Caprice finished her meal, she took Caprice into the bedroom. As usual, she read some short stories for her. Then, she helped Caprice shower and settled her into the bed. The child fell asleep soundly within seconds. It was Sherry’s turn to shower. After her shower, she went to the living room for a peek. The lights were shut off, the dining table and the kitchen were thoroughly cleaned, and the man was nowhere to be seen. She went back to the bedroom and fell asleep with Caprice in her arms. Meanwhile, John had reached the parking lot and was gazing at the building Sherry resided 1. He looked at the bedroom windows. He left after seeing that the lights in the bedroom were shut off.
