Chapter 1692

Before Sherry could process what was going on, she heard the sharp screech of a brake from behind her.

She turned around and saw Carl stepping out of his sports car.

He leaned against his car with a look of pride and looked at Sherry with a charming smile, expecting her to fawn over the car. “Sherry, do you like it?”

Sherry was speechless.

Was this sports car stuffed with gemstones supposed to be a gift for her?

Upon noticing her astonishment, Carl walked up to her and gently brushed his fingers against her cheeks. “You like it, don't you? You look like you can't even find the words to describe it.”

Sherry took a breath and expressed what she truly thought, “Carl, didn't I tell you that I don't want this?”

He had mentioned giving her a sports car on one occasion and she could recall her refusing the gesture.

Carl smiled and declared, “It's my code to not mistreat my woman so whether you want it or not, it's yours now.”

Sherry hissed angrily. “What do you mean by “your woman?"

Carl cocked an eyebrow. “You're going to get engaged to me tomorrow. Doesn't that make you my woman?"

Sherry took another deep breath to prevent herself from flying off with rage. “Carl, I'm sure you know the terms of our engagement.”

Carl continued grinning nonchalantly with an air of arrogance. “I know, but it's a secret, isn't it? The point is to let people know that you're my fiancée, the only one I care for.”

Sherry said dryly, “There's no need for you to put on this sort of public display. Nobody is going to think anything of it even if you didn’t make some sort of public statement of affection.”

Carl barely cared what she had to say. He put his arms around her shoulders and led her to the sports car.

He said invitingly, “Go on, see if there's anything that you'd like to change about it. I'll have my men bring it to the workshop.”

Sherry was no fool. With just one glance she could tell that the sports car cost a fortune and it was utterly flawless.

She glanced at the sports car, then at the car which she drove here in. When put in comparison, she suddenly felt like her car was a useless hunk of steel.

She said without hesitation, “No need, the car is perfect as it is.”

“So you like it?” Carl asked gleefully.

Sherry quipped. “Are you going to take it away if I said I didn't like it?”

Carl laughed. “Of course not.”

He was not going to reclaim what was meant as a gift.

Sherry remained silent.

Carl asked for her opinion again, “So do you like it?"

Sherry answered briskly, “I do.”

Who would not love such a beautiful and luxurious car?

Carl grinned, fully satisfied with the answer.

“Alright, get home and make sure you rest well, I'll see you tomorrow.” He still needed to head to the venue for a final inspection to ensure everything was in order.

Sherry merely grunted.

Carl left with a smile on his face.

The two men who worked for Carl prepared to leave as well.

Sherry quickly stopped them. “Wait a minute, you two.”

They turned around.

Sherry smiled and asked politely, “Please help me put the cover back on, I won't be using it for the moment.”

It attracted far more attention than necessary, especially when she was only going to use it to get to work. With how flashy it seemed, it was better to keep it covered lest it attracted unwanted trouble, what with the glittering gemstones and all.

She was going to safeguard it until after their engagement was called off, then she would return it to its owner.

The two men did as they were told and covered the car appropriately.

After the job was done, they left.

Sherry went back to her unit.

Meanwhile, at the stairway outside her unit.

There stood a man leaning over the barrier. His gaze was sharp and ruminative underneath the lens of his glasses. He observed the car parked in Sherry’s parking spot with an air of

stoicism.

He narrowed his eyes and seemed to be pondering something.

“Daddy, what are you looking at?” Caprice stood next to him with a curious expression. She was not tall enough to see

She wanted to see it too, but he ignored her no matter what she called him just now.

The window sill was twice as high as her, and she could not even jump up, so she could only raise her face and ask him.

At this time, there was movement from the elevator entrance.

John collected his emotions and turned his head.
