Chapter 1659

Lisa chuckled. "You'd better check if mom is still in the mood for a toast”

Anne turned pale.

“Don't you think it's very disrespectful of them to leave without even bidding farewell to Mom?” Ron remarked grumpily.

Lisa answered with a feigned smile, “Why don't you ask your darling niece if she spilled the wine on Sherry on purpose? Do you think we'd be in this situation if she hadn't done that?”

Ron stammered for a proper response, “Ada... Ada didn't do it on purpose.”

“I am sure she did it on purpose.” Lisa hissed sharply, “I'm not an idiot."

Ron gulped.

Lisa was not interested in squabbling with them any longer. She shot up from her seat and turned to Madam Sager, “Mom, I'll be leaving. I have some business to deal with."

Madam Sager ignored her.

Lisa had been used to her ambivalence and paid no mind to it. She turned and strutted off without hesitation.

After leaving the banquet hall, Carl produced a handkerchief from his pocket and tried to help Sherry wipe off the wine stains from her arm.

Sherry insisted on doing it herself. She hastily brushed it several times over her arm before handing the handkerchief back to Carl, not forgetting to thank him. “Thank you for helping me back there.”

It did feel good when she heard what Carl said to Ada back there.

“What are you thanking me for?” Carl frowned. “I'm the reason she tried to humiliate you in public “I'm fine!"

It was not a big deal. She could handle being mocked by a crowd.

This humiliation was nothing compared to the harrowing suffering she had to endure under John. Some snarky words and cross looks could barely hold a candle to the endless torment she had to go through.

She stuffed her hands in her pockets and continued walking.

Carl followed her every step of the way. After a long silence, he spoke again, “Sherry, I know a few very capable surgeons. Do you want me to bring you to them? I'm sure they

can do something about that scar of yours.

“No, I don't need it"

If she was going to have it treated, she would have done it a long time ago. Besides, the scar had fully developed into her skin by now, and there was no reversing it.

More importantly, the very existence of the scar was a sore reminder of what the despicable man had done to her, and she would rather keep it.

Carl sensed the resolute in her voice and decided to stop trying to convince her.

They walked to the parking lot.

Just as Sherry was about to get in the car, Lisa came running after them. She wanted to check on Sherry.

Sherry smiled warmly and assured her, “Aunt Lisa, I'm fine."

Lisa looked at her, her eyes filled with distress. “Sherry, I remember you being fine before you went to Glanchester. What happened to you when you were there? You've got so much thinner, then there's this unexplainable scar. What kind of accident were you talking about. back there?”

Sherry became gloomy and tried to avoid the topic. “You know, things happen. Anyway, it doesn't matter now. Its all over”

Lisa wanted to probe further, but Carl cut her off. “Mom, I'm going for a drink with Sherry. Why don't you give it a rest for now?” he said as he gently tugged Lisa away from Sherry.

Lisa shot a fierce look at him and sent them off reluctantly. “Don’t drink more than you. need to, and make sure you send her home before it's too late”

“Understood, don't worry.” With that, Carl took Sherry's hand.

Sherry was quickly ushered into the car.

With that, they took off and exited through the front gates of the Sagers’ villa.

It was already nighttime. Spots of streetlights flanked both sides of the road illuminated the path before them.

Sherry lowered the car window to feel the gentle sea breeze brushing against her skin.

Just as she was about to close her eyes to get some rest, she suddenly spotted a familiar figure in her peripheral vision. She frowned reactively and turned around.

All that could be seen was the spacious lane and several cars riding its winding paths.
