Intuition
Chapter Nineteen

"I told you not to speak to the boy. So you jump the damn fence?" Flint gripped the steering wheel tightly.

"He saw me. I had to stop him from yelling for Norman." Eve explained quickly.

"You should have stayed hidden." He shook his head and turned onto the highway.

"I know." She paused. "What did Norman say?"

"Wait." Flint touched the radio and dialed a number.

"Why are calling HQ?" Eve furrowed her brows impatiently.

"StarLight main line?" A familiar voice spoke through the speakers.

"Johnny." Flint greeted him.

"Alpha. What's up?" The young warrior replied.

"I need a tracker. Someone in the Summerville area." He stated.

"No small talk then. Okay... I see three of our members in that county. A specialist Anna at the pack house. Two trackers, Donald in Calgary and Peter in Monette."

"Assign Peter. I'm texting you the address now. Occupant is Norman Taylor. I want a running list of everywhere he goes and everyone he speaks to." Flint was clearly still tense.

"Yes, Alpha." Johnny replied simply.

Flint typed on the radio for a moment before he hung up the phone. Eve was watching him with a curious expression. She was simply waiting for answers to the questions she knew he was aware she had.

"Norman was calling someone to get in touch with Bastian." Flint eventually broke the thick silence.

"Bastian?!" Eve's eyes widened in shock.

"Yes. He was alerting him to Randy and Denise's disappearance." He nodded.

"Wh- So..." She shook her head adamantly. "We can't leave!"

"You have an appointment at the doctor. We aren't staying." Flint answered sternly.

"He's going to lead us to Bastian! I'm sick of letting other people handle things for us. We should deal with him ourselves!" Eve protested.

Flint took a deep, slow breath in through his nose. He was trying to remain calm but he was struggling. His wolf was upset at his mate's disobedience and, honestly, so was the rest of him. However, he could feel the Luna stirring inside Eve. It seemed the animal was still calling the shots.

"No." He stated in a commanding tone.

Eve's jaw fell open. She didn't understand. Her mind was racing so quickly that she felt like she could barely catch the thoughts flying around in her head.

Danger! Bastian! If we leave we'll never catch him! The she-wolf began turning in circles anxiously.

"Stop the car." Eve demanded.

Flint's jaw tightened, as did his grip on the steering wheel.

"STOP THE CAR!" She shouted.

The Alpha slammed on the brakes. His arm shot out to stop Eve from falling forward from the inertia. His heart was pounding, as was hers. He could feel it. The power within his mate was rising again, threatening to take control.

"Eve." He said her name like a warning.

She stared down at his hand across her chest. Even when he was furious, he had protected her. She took a breath in an attempt to calm herself. She was failing to relax. It still felt like her every sense was screaming at her.

"We can get him." Eve stated questioningly.

"Not us. Not now." He shook his head.

"Then you go. We can do it ourself." She shook her head and opened her car door.

Eve hadn't taken a single step away from the car before her mate lept over the hood and landed in front of her. He rose up to his full, imposing height. When he looked into her eyes, she felt it. This was her Alpha and he was using his strength.

Her wolf settled in place but she didn't calm; she couldn't. Eve stiffened. No wolf in their pack would have been able to meet his gaze, none but his Luna. She stared into his emerald irises with a confused but determined expression.

"Get in the SUV." He ordered her simply.

Eve fought the urge to obey. With the amount of power coursing through her veins, she simply clenched her fists to remain in place. Flint narrowed his gaze at her before sighing. He grabbed her around the waist and lifted her off the ground.

"Put me down!" She shouted, kicking her legs.

Flint didn't respond. He simply stepped toward the car and sat her in the passenger seat. Eve went to move once he stepped back but Flint was quick to block the doorway.

"We can't talk about this out in the open on a fucking residential human street. Stay put!" He commanded, raising his deep voice.

Eve nodded stiffly before he closed the door. Once he was back in the driver's seat, Flint drove to the end of the road and turned into the driveway of a house with a for sale sign in the front yard.

He turned off the car but remained silent. He took several deep breaths, as if centering himself, before he turned to face Eve.

"I feel like I'm talking to you both." His words were serious and flat.

"Both..." Eve furrowed her brows.

All of you. His wolf's stern voice entered her mind.

We can't stop it. We have to-

"I know." Flint interrupted the she-wolf by speaking aloud.

Eve rubbed her temples and again tried to calm her racing heart. She felt light headed and she couldn't think clearly.

"Better than you would imagine, I know." He reached out and touched her cheek with his fingertips.

Eve looked at him and in that moment he could feel everything inside her. Fear of leaving someone else to deal with an impossible enemy. Even more fear of losing control to the incredible power inside her.

Overwhelming Guilt at her actions in the flower shop. And, of course, anger. Anger at herself for not being stronger than her condition, at him for gifting her such great power in the first place, at the baby for getting stronger... She was angry at the world it seemed.

All her feelings were laced with an animalistic innocence. It told him that both sides of his mate were in the forefront of Eve's mind. They were sluggishly warring for dominance without reason. Flint knew she felt lost. That was the emotion that coated all the others.

"Come here." He pulled her into his lap.

It was a tight fit behind the steering wheel but Eve helped him adjust so she could fit there. She buried her face in his chest, allowing his scent to surround her. Flint automatically hugged her close to him.

"You're okay. I promise." He kissed the top of her head.

Are we? The she-wolf entered his mind in a quiet voice.

Eve snuggled closer to him. The electricity that so often excited her senses was now soothing her. Reminding her that she was not alone. With her mate, she shared everything. Only Flint could ground her. Only he could clear her mind.

Yes, little thing. We both are. The Alpha answered calmly.
