Chapter 20

“Can I come in?” Kyle asked, gently tapping on his father’s office door peering inside.

“Of course, Kyle,” he replied, gesturing him in. “What’s on your mind?”

“It’s Dan, I am worried about him.”

“What’s wrong with him?”

“Ever since he joined the sky surfing team he has slowly become different. His whole attitude has become different.”

“In what way?”

“We got into a fight where he started talking about how we were superior to humans in every way. He literally used a push on me.”

“He used his powers against you?” Michael questioned curiously. “That’s not like him.”

“And Grace, she came to me saying that Dan attacked a guy who tried to mess with her.”

“What happened to the other man? Was he badly hurt?”

“No, Grace was able to stop him thankfully before any real damage was done,” Kyle answered. “I don’t what’s happening to him.”

Michael sat lacing his fingers together looking deep in thought.

“Do you know what’s going on?” he asked, staring at his Dad. “If you know something please you have to tell me.”

“Okay, I held off telling you only because I was looking to protect you and your younger brother but think you are old enough now to know.”

“What have you been holding back?”

Michael brought up the holoprojector showing the trial where Thomas Blackwell and his other Terran co-conspirators stood in front of the Terran High Council.

“Years ago on Terra there was an uprising where a faction of Terrans tried to overthrow the population by creating a new Terran order as they called it where their main ideology was to use our powers not to benefit but for absolute control. In the beginning their followers started adhering to the same doctrine that we were a superior race. Fortunately everyone was rounded up and sent to the Peragus prison asteroid.”

Kyle watched the holo of the proceedings stopping at one person sitting on the council side. “That’s you isn’t it?”

“Yes, I was still fairly new to the council when I was appointed,” Michael said smiling, looking at himself in the holo. “It was an honor to be chosen.” He pressed a button on his console shutting off the projector. “So now you know. I don’t know for certain if this is turning into the same thing as it did back home but the best thing you can do is look out for him and be careful.”

“And if it is what you say?”

“Then we are going to need hard proof,” Michael said, sighing. “We can’t let what happened on Terra happen here.”
