High School Terrans
Chapter 19

Dan and the team strolled onto the beach ready for practice. He enjoyed being part of a group where he really felt he belonged. Morgan, Nicholas, and Tyler were easy to like versus the vitriol that was thrown his and Grace’s way during what was supposed to be a pleasant first date together.

“So I saw you talking to that girl the other day?” Morgan said, during a break. “Grace?”

“Yeah,” Dan replied smiling.

“So what’s the deal?” Nicholas asked. “Did you ask her out?”

“Yeah, we already been on our first date but didn’t go as well as I would have planned.”

Morgan and Nicholas gave each other knowing glances careful that Dan wasn’t paying much attention to them.

“What happened?” Morgan asked.

“There was some guy starting to act out with more anti Terran crap. He came after Grace too.”

“Unbelievable, you would think by now people would have gotten over that.”

“All of the years that we’ve been here for and we are still treated unfairly,” Nicholas answered.

“I hate it,” Dan said, balling his fist.

“Dan, if you want to use your energies for good you can join our group,” Morgan said.

“Group?” Dan asked, quizzically. “What kind of group?”

“It’s a group that helps fight against what we have been opposing for years. Terran freedom and rights,” he said. “But it’s not just about protecting us but also people like Grace from those types of individuals who are just looking to start trouble.”

“I’d definitely would be on board for all of that.”

“Great,” Morgan said, slapping a hand on his back. “You will be a great asset to us.”

Kyle pulled up on his bike hoping to catch Dan on one of his practice days. He stopped in front of a long stretch looking out seeing them all together. He got off his bike and started to slowly walk overseeing they were on a break.

“Dan, we need to talk,” Kyle hollered.

Dan pulled himself away excusing himself before walking up to Kyle. From the expression on Kyle’s face, Dan could tell right away that something was up.

“So what did you want to talk about?” Dan asked.

“Grace told me what happened on your date with her.”

“Nothing happened,” he replied. “Not like I killed him.”

“Not like you killed him? What are you saying? Grace came to me because she is worried about you and the way you acted.”

“Well, I’m fine so you need not worry.”

“You can’t go every time when someone says something negative and retaliate.”

“You think I was going to just let it slide?” Dan said, chucking. “He got what he deserved.”

“You know that isn’t our way,” Kyle replied, touching his arm. “Just because we can doesn’t mean we should.”

“Why don’t you just leave?” Dan quickly furrowed his brow making Kyle fly back hitting the ground. “Maybe I’ve found a better way. You know we’ve been oppressed for far too long and it’s not only affecting us but the humans too. I wasn’t just stopping him for me but for Grace too.”

Morgan came forward standing beside Dan as Kyle got up dusting off the sand on himself. “Sorry to interrupt but we have to get back to practicing. If you guys are finished?”

“Yeah, I think we are done here,” Dan answered with a smug expression on his face.

Kyle got back on his bike about to leave but before he did he looked back at Dan feeling defeated and saddened that things had become this bad between them. It was the first time he ever used his powers on him in a defensive posture. Also, it was one of the tenants that all Terrans lived by that our powers wouldn’t be used to hurt others like themselves. He felt the need to go to one of the few people he knew he could fully trust to tell about this, his father.
