Chapter 17 

Ragnar did not reply to the text. 

He threw the phone aside instantly. 

Two days later, Jonathan’s small company recovered from the distress. 

It was said that someone in the Hayes family did something, and it saved Jonathan. 

When Josephine was about to go home from work, Charles stopped her. “Josie, why are you avoiding me? About Valeria, I can explain to you.” 

Josephine interrupted. 

She looked at Charles coldly and said, “Charles, what do you want to explain? Are you going to break up with Valeria?” 

Charles was quiet for a moment. 

He grabbed Josephine’s wrist and said, “Josie, you are the one I love. For the sake of our future, I will need to be with Valeria. But this is only temporary.” 

Charles went on to talk about how much she loved Josephine and asked her to wait for him. 

Josephine shook off Charles’s hand and said coldly, “Now, you only make me feel sick!” 

Josephine was leaving 

Charles questioned her furiously, “Josie, are you heartless? Did you even love me from the start?” 

He went on, “If you have loved me, how can you break up with me so easily? I want to salvage everything! But what about you? You continue your life as if nothing happened!” 

Charles hugged Josephine madly and pulled her in the direction of his car. “Josie, you know what? I didn’t touch you before because I cherished you and wanted to leave the best for the wedding night. If you think it’s because of this that I’ve kept a distance, we’ll then…” 

Josephine struggled. 

“Let gol Charles, you bastard! Don’t disgust me anymore!” 

At this moment, a luxury car passed by, and the man seated in the back seat looked at the struggling couple outside with his dark and cold eyes. 

“Mr. Levine, Josephine seems to be in danger. Do you want me to…” 

“It’s all right.” 

The luxury car drove past Josephine, and the window was half open. Josephine saw the man in the car while she was busy struggling to escape Charles‘ entanglement. 

He left without even looking at her.

She ran to a corner where no one was there. 

She then squatted down, buried her head between her knees, and cried with her shoulders trembling. 

She had long gotten used to tending to her own wounds, hiding from others, and not letting others see her cry. 

But today, she did not know why she could not hold it in and cried her heart out on the corner of the street. 

Back at the Levine mansion, a dignified man was sitting on the couch in the living room.. 

Josephine lowered her head and was about to leave without greeting him. 

“Stop.” 

Ragnar stopped Josephine. 

“Mr. Levine, is everything all right?” 

Ragnar sat there lazily. He looked at Josephine with his dark eyes and said, “Did you ask the Hayes family to solve the problem in Jonathan’s company?” 

Josephine was stunned. She did not beg the Hayes family for help. 

Ragnar saw Josephine’s reaction, and he felt that he guessed it right. This woman really begged the Hayes family for help again. 

“Ha!” 

He suddenly laughed sarcastically. 

The tall figure suddenly rose from the couch, walked over to Josephine, and looked down at her. “You are something!” 

He continued, “Did you apply to be the nanny in the Levine family and contractually become my wife because you could not hook up with Casper earlier? That’s why you played hard to get?” 

Josephine frowned. 

“Casper? I don’t even know this person,” she thought. 

“Stop pretending here!” 

Ragnar reached out and squeezed Josephine’s chin. “Do you know that Jonathan found me in the bar earlier and wanted to sell you? He said that if I like you, your family will support you! He was very clear about his intentions. He wanted you to be my lover. And then he expects me to give him and your family benefits. Is it worth it for you to help him like this? You even ran to beg Casper? Hmm?” 

Josephine could not answer. 

She widened her eyes in disbelief. 

Ragnar squeezed Josephine’s cheek hard. 

He saw Josephine’s red eyes. 

“You cried?” 

He thought, “What? To whom did she try to show this pathetic look? Was it Casper? Or Charles?” 

Josephine said, “I don’t know any Casper!” 

She had been crying before. Perhaps because Ragnar squeezed her too hard, her eyes were even redder. 

“Mr. Levine, please let me go!”

Ragnar did not let go. 

His dark eyes were full of anger, and he told Josephine coldly, “Do you know how people who dare to fool me suffer?” 

Josephine was stubborn and also innocent. “I didn’t!” 

Ragnar sneered. 

He stated what he thought was the truth, “You blend into the upper class, working as a nanny and a piano tutor. You’re just hoping that you could meet a fool who would be interested in you. And you’ll get to have your fate changed. And you succeeded. You have done a good job on your resume, and your character is perfect. Furthermore, your family is so bad it made you want to run away. You played hard to get! You didn’t want to accept the nanny job in the Levine mansion, and yet, you’re falling into the trap your family set for you.” 

Ragnar felt that what had happened earlier was a trap set for him. 

“This damn woman and her family! As soon as they succeeded a bit, they immediately wanted to seek benefits from me,” he thought. 

What she did recently was what he hated even more. 

“It’s not enough that you have succeeded in being the Levine family’s nanny. You are still entangled with the Hayes family and your ex–boyfriend.” 

Ragnar tightened his grip. 

Then, he shook off Josephine’s hand and said to her face coldly, “You’re shameless beyond help!” 

Josephine said, “I didn’t!” 

She felt wronged but still looked at Ragnar stubbornly. “Mr. Levine, from the get–go, you wanted me to sign the contract and marry you, didn’t you?” 

She continued, “If what you accused me of is true, why should I go through all the trouble?” 

All she had to do was to agree and sign a contract with this man to become his wife. 

Ragnar said, “That’s why you are so smart! You signed a contract with me and became my contract wife for three years. You will need to leave eventually. But you want to make yourself more valuable. You took things step by step and made me like you, so you can become my actual wife!” 

He went on, “You’re smart, but your family members are useless conspirators. That’s why he came to me in such a hurry! And the moment he had issues in the company, he sent you to beg for help everywhere.” 

Josephine shook her head. “It’s not like that.” 

She crossed the line when she questioned him about her uncle’s matters. But since he said such things, she did not push forward.. 

She then added, “I didn’t ask the Hayes family for help.” 

Her explanation at this moment sounded weak. 

Furthermore, she was in a bad mood and did not want to explain further. 

Thinking of what Ragnar said just now infuriated her. 

It struck a nerve in her. She went head to head against Ragnar and stared at him. “Are you saying that you think you are the fool? And Mr. Levine, have you fallen in love with me?” 

Ragnar asked, “What do you think?” 

He thought, “How could I fall in love with this scheming woman who was still entangled with her ex–boyfriend?” 

Josephine spoke. “Not in a million years. After all, when I looked like that the other day, you, Mr. Levine, still took me to the hospital. You must not like 

women.”
