Chapter 59

Carmine approached Thor, taking one surprised step after the other. Confusion swelled inside her chest. Her mind was trying to assemble the puzzle without a picture on the box. It was as if each piece of her memory seemed disconnected and elusive. She couldn’t comprehend how Thor had such a unique scent of Alpha Theo.

Overwhelmed with emotions, she sat on the edge of his bed with her hand slapped on her mouth. What was the truth and what was the illusion-nothing was clear. “How?” she uttered as she looked at Alpha Theo with blurry vision. “Please tell me how this is possible, Alpha Theo?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. “I feel like-” she shook her head and tears rolled out. “I feel like I am standing at a crossroads. The answer to this puzzle is obscured by uncertainty. Everything is so ambiguous.”

Theo let out a rough exhale and kneeled in front of her. “I am going to tell you what I know, Carmine. Before you give any judgment, listen to me carefully,” he said, almost pleading with her. “After I finish, I also have questions.”

She nodded once for him to continue. She placed her hand on her chest, gently rubbing it to relieve the intense sensations. Alpha Theo held her hand and locked his eyes with her. Can you imagine my excitement? It was impossible for me to not take you. If I didn’t claim you that day, I think I would have died.”

He got up and stabbed his fingers in his hair. “My excitement was tinged with shock. How come you were in the cabin that belonged to Alpha Kade? I was confused as hell. and the only plausible explanation to it was that he had held you captive.”

Theo turned away and walked to the window, where he placed his hands on the ledge and leaned against it. “I wanted to take you back with me, but Kade had attacked my warriors. His spies discovered that we were going through the forest that way, so they

landmines. I was saved because I came to you, but several others died in the

set up explosions.”

“Oh g od!” Carmine gasped.

He turned to look at her. “You saved me that day, Carmine,” he said, his expressions softening. “Had I not discovered you, I would have been dead.”

A shudder of fear ran down her spine. She started trembling at the mention of the repercussions. The bond in her heart tugged her mate and Theo rushed to her immediately. “Carmine!” he rasped, wrapping her tightly in his arms. “I am fine now. Please calm down.”

In an attempt to calm her frayed nerves, she rested her face on her shoulder and breathed in his scent, despite her logic protesting.

He pulled away and explained, “I couldn’t come back at that moment to bring you along, but I was filled with rage and came back to attack the Blue Moon pack.” We defeated them in a few hours and the first thing I did was to come for you. All I wanted was to take you away and make you my Luna. But-” he shook his head. “But you were gone.” I spent the next five years finding you. Carmine, I swear-” He placed his head in her lap. “You don’t know what my life was without you. I swear I was going insane. I had sent my spies everywhere to find you, and then one day I received the news that you were in Columbia. Rest is history…”

Carmine listened to him attentively. So that’s how she got pregnant. She sucked in sharp air. “Was I very responsive to you when you met me? Why can’t I remember our encounter?” She mused, bewildered why she couldn’t remember him. Suddenly, she recalled. “Oh. My. Goddess!”

He immediately felt miserable and his misery flowed through his bond right to her. She closed her hands in tight fists.

Theo nodded. He cupped her face and said, “You can take as much time as you want, Carmine, but I am no rapist. I waited for you to find out that we are mates because I didn’t want to put pressure on you about it. This should be your choice. You are my queen and shall always remain one. I’ll wait for you for eternity.” He rested his forehead on hers. Then, controlling his emotions, he got up and walked out of the room. He closed the door, leaned against it and slid down to sit on the cold ground. He would wait for her decision at her doorstep.
