Shannon 

I saw his Beta come in holding two envelopes came in, Vernon let go of me immediately upon hearing Terry’s name. He turned to face his Bera. I couldn’t see his expression, but I could hear him sneering 

When his Beta walked closer, I could see that one of the envelopes had my name on it. But Vernon quickly blocked my line of sight, he turned around to face me again. 

Tll go handle this. You can stay here or feel free to use any of the rooms I just showed you. If you need anything, just ask the maid. Okay?” 

I nodded but I kept thinking about the letter. My gaze never left the letter. He took them from his Beta, and he was walking out of the door. 

“Vernon…” I couldn’t help but call out to him once I saw he reached the door. I wanted to see the letter. 

“What?” 

He looked back but didn’t turn around, I could see the coldness in his eyes. I suddenly lost the courage to ask him for the letter. So I shook my head. 

“Nothing.” 

He stopped for a minute and left without looking back. I let out a sigh of relief that I didn’t even know I was holding in. 

I suddenly didn’t know what to do. I was left alone in this strange palace. I walked to the balcony aimlessly, trying to look over the scene of this land. 

The sunlight hit the floor of the balcony, I leaned against the railing to look outside. Right beneath the balcony, you got the whole view of the beautiful garden downstairs. There was a quaint gazebo standing in the middle of the garden. And I saw Domenica and Nora inside the gazebo. 

I was so excited to see them I yelled out, they were drawn by my voice and looked around to find me, I waved at them to try to get their attention. I just looked ridiculous now, but I didn’t care. 

They finally looked up and saw me standing upstairs. They said something but it was too far out for me to make out what they were saying, but then they point down. It seemed that they wanted me to go down to the garden. 

Well, Vernon did say I could use any place in this house, I guessed it was fine for me to go to the garden and see my friends. 

I quickly went downstairs and memorized the whole place in my heart. 

Once I pushed the back door open, it was like I was in another world. When Vernon was giving me a tour of the House, I came to the garden to have a look. But when I was finally inside the garden. The scent of nature hit me in the most unexpected way. The colorful flowers, the gentle breeze, the smell of the grass… They instantly relaxed me. 

“Shannon! You are here!” I heard Nora yell out to me. I looked up and quickly ran to them, the garden was so damn beautiful, I forgot what I was there for in the first place. 

“Thank god! I thought you couldn’t come down, we were just thinking about went up stair to find you… Domenica said as she also ran up to me. She gave me a big hug, she held me so tight that I couldn’t breathe 

“Why couldn’t I come down?” I asked, puzzled at what she implied, 

“Well, because you were inside the Moonhunter’s bedroom. They said we were not allowed to be near his room, and we thought he held you captive…” Nora said with a worried tone. 

This kind of surprised me, it was not how they thought Vernon had me captive, but Nora being so unusually out–spoken. She had always been quiet and withdrawn, for the first few times of our meeting. I even misunderstood her as a mute. But now in just the span of the first minute we saw each other, she talked to me twice now. But I guessed this had something to do with her abusive husband as well. 

“Well, he didn’t hold me captive. I’m staying with him but he said I am allowed to use all the room in the Pack House.” 

“That’s so great! We thought you were in trouble when he picked you, and we saw what happened in the dining hall back in your Pack House, we thought you were bullied. Domenica let go of her tight hold on me, but she still held my hand tightly to her chest, like she

was afraid to let go of me. 

“Nobody could bully me, Isaid as I gave them a reassuring smile. 

I noticed that they were in different clothes as well, they looked well–dressed, compared to the tattered clothes I saw them wear yesterday. 

“How did you get here?” 1 asked and prayed that their fate was better than mine. 

They gave each other a look. And both of them lowered their heads in shame. God, please don’t do this to them. 

“Actually,” Nora was the one who chose to speak, “Adonis picked me and Rex picked Domenica, they were the Beta and Gamma, so we came back with them.”

they force you or do anything to you?” I asked, fearing the worst. 

Both of them shook their heads. I was so relieved to know this. We were lucky that we were all safe and weren’t forced to do the things we didn’t want to. 

“What about you? Did Vernon… Domenica asked, it seemed that she had the same fear as I did. 

“No, he didn’t do anything to me.” 

They also looked physically relieved to hear that. We fell into silence after that, as if we were all looking back to how we got here. 

Javier renounced me. The mark on my neck was gone.” Domenica suddenly said, and she parted her hair and tilted her head to let us 

see her neck. 

I gasped as I saw the crescent mark that was supposed on her neck was really gone. 

“Did it hurt?” I asked as I remembered what Vernon said before, he was going to make “Terry renounce me as well, did this mean that I had to suffer the same thing? 

“Just a small price to pay for getting rid of a trash man like Javier, Domenica said as she shook her head, “I would rather suffer the pain of renouncing than be stuck with that scumbag forever 

She had her point though, after what she had been through with Javier, it was much better for her to be away from him. He didn’t deserve her. 

We talked for a bit more in the gazebo, it was nice to be out in such a natural setting, and with friends. But as the afternoon approached, the temperature outside was getting a little unbearable. So we decided to walk inside the House. 

“Adonis was really weird, I mean he picked me but he didn’t stay with me last night, he just left me alone in his room…” Nora suddenly stopped as she saw someone walking towards us. 

It was Vernon. He was walking toward us with a smile on his face. 

“Good afternoon, ladies” He said to us, nodding his head, and then he turned to me. I take that you have talked to your friends?” 

“Good afternoon, Alpha Vernon.” Nora and Domenica quickly replied. 

“Yes,” I answered as I nodded my head. 

“Then would you ladies mind if I borrow her for a while?” He said as he put both of his hands on my shoulders.
