Chapter 27

Sarah Williams- POV 

He gave me a look of apprehensiveness while he repeatedly combed his hair with his fingers, messing it up even more. “Noah!” I asked him in a warning tone, and he told me that he would come soon before he disappeared behind the kitchen and, soon emerged again, walking towards me. When he was a few feet away from me, he gave me a nervous smile and opened and closed his mouth several times, like a fish out of water, but words nerve came out. 

“I wanted to talk to you about that earlier, but something just came in between us every time I thought about it,” he exclaimed, I narrowed my eyes at him and tapped my foot on the wooden floor, waiting for him to continue. “This is the only family cottage available at the beta’s pack, Sarah. Since there is a rule that if you are having a pup, you should move back to the main pack. But till then, you can spend your time here.” he explained, and I almost yelled at him for not telling me this 

sooner. 

Instead, I closed my eyes and counted from one to ten before I slowly opened my eyes again. “You know that if beta Alan gets to know about this, then he would go ape shit on us, Noah. You saw how mad he was when we announced that we are getting married, right?” I asked him while he scratched the back of his neck. 

“I know, but I bet he would never come by our cottage,” he reassured me, but I still couldn’t get my heart to believe his words. He walked closer to me and took both my hands in his. “Please, believe me. I doubt that he would come here.” Noah

said, and even though I wanted to argue with him, I let it go for the time being. 

“Fine, let’s get back to unpacking,” I said and took my suitcase and a few of the other cardboard boxes to our new room. The room was cozy and bigger than my room in the pack house. There was a huge queen–sized bed in the center with a Baywatch window to the left side of the bed and a cupboard directly in front of the bed. I made my way to the cupboard, and opened it, to see that Noah had already arranged his clothes in the closet, and he had kept the right side of it empty for me to use. 

“Shall I bring some food from the pack house for us to eat because I am famished, and I don’t think I can cook anything since I am exhausted after moving a lot of furniture today?” Noah asked me, and I looked up from my position on the 

floor. 

“I think that sounds great because I don’t have the energy to cook anything now, either,” I replied and he nodded his head before he soon left the room. 

It was a tranquil experience to sit at a kitchen table and have our dinner while overlooking the dark forest outside. “We will not be practicing tomorrow.” Noah’s voice broke me out from the serene feeling I was in, and I turned my glance toward him again. 

“Why is that?” 

“Beta Alan has made me go to our neighboring pack to collect some information about the dead man.” this piqued my interest, and I dropped my fork on my plate and sat straight. 

“Who was that man who was killed?”

“He was one of our pack members. But he only joined this pack six months ago, so we do not know much about him, other than that he moved here with his wife, who is pregnant at the moment.” this news made my heart constrict, and I felt devasted just thinking what his mate must be going through. It’s not easy to lose a mate, and it would be even more 

heartbreaking to lose a mate while you are pregnant with his 

pup. 

“Hopefully, this rogue is caught before more deaths befall this pack,” I said, and Noah nodded his head before we continued eating. 

“Good night,” I mumbled and turn around to face the window, and Noah placed a gentle kiss on my hair. 

“Sarah,” 

“Hmm,” 

“If you don’t mind, can I hug you?” he asked me, and a small smile formed on my face. 

“Sure,” I replied, and soon Noah snaked his arm around my waist and pulled me closer to him, and I was lulled to sleep with the sound of his heartbeat. 

I was abruptly woken up by a despairing howl in the distance, and I looked out through the window to see that it was still dark outside. The clock on my bedside table read that it was 

two am. 

“Sarah, are you all right?” Noah questioned with a sleepy voice, and I turned around to face him again. 

“I am fine. I will get something to eat and then come back to

bed.” I said, and he nodded his head with his eyes closed and removed his arm from me. I quickly wore my flip–flops and left the room while closing the door behind me. 

“That howl sounded like Beta Alan’s, which means that he is not in his house right now.” I made my way to the kitchen and filled a glass of water from the tap. I took a few sips and leaned against the kitchen counter. 

“Should we go and check at beta Alan’s house?” I asked Jane, and after a few minutes of silence, she replied. 

“I know that he has kept that letter at his place. Because if he had shared its content with Alpha Blaze and the others, then Noah would have said so.” 

“Well, I guess we will have to sneak in now,” I said, and Jane yipped in joy to be around her mate’s scent again. I placed the glass on the table, slowly sneaked out of my house, and ran toward beta Alan’s. 

When I arrived at his place, I noticed that the porch light was turned on, which mean he must have gone out for a run. I looked at either side of my surrounding before I snuck into his house. I quickly made my way to his office, and surprisingly, it 

was open. 

“Well, don’t you think this is too easy?” I asked Jane. 

“We better leave here soon,” she answered, I nodded my head and began searching, after opening and closing a lot of drawers, I still couldn’t find that letter, and when I was about to give up, I saw it on the bookshelf.
