Chapter 21 

Adriane had completely overwhelmed Zack in this race. As she rode her horse towards the starting point, she did not notice that a man was looking at her with interest from not far away. 

“Mr. Quinlan, this girl’s horsemanship is not bad. She played cat and mouse with that man.” 

Francis took off the protective gear on his head and lazily held it in his hand. His slender body leaned against the window, and his long fingers rested on his sharp chin. His bewitching eyes seemed to be sparkling like the stars in the night. “She is great.” That girl probably only displayed a small piece of herself 

Other than his family background and romantic affairs, people were obsessed with talking about Francis‘ perfect face. 

Compared to Arthur’s coldness and toughness, he was more amicable and gentle. But under the casualness of his gaze was bottomless darkness. 

There were many things in this world, such as power, money, status, and women that for him, obtaining them was as easy as pie. Therefore, there were not many things that could interest him. 

Adriane Stewart was one of the few that intrigued his curiosity. 

Taking his eyes off Adriane, he passed the protective gear to the person beside him. He said with a smile, “I want to know her background.” 

Zack had fallen off the horse, which led to chaos on the race track. The staff were all busy tending to the injured. 

When Adriane returned to the crowd, everyone looked at her with complicated expressions. 

The men who were eager to teach her how to ride the horse fell silent. The jealousy of the women deepened. 

Nobody had expected that she could be so good at riding horses! As for Zack Frost, he was fooled by this young lady. He even fell off the horse in embarrassment! He lost his face in front of all the people. Besides, everyone thought it would be a humiliation to hang out with a person like him, so none of them showed any concern for Zack. 

Adriane suddenly felt sorry for Zack. He tried all the ways to become integrated into the circle, having spent a lot of money to please them. In the end, in just a few hours, the circle rejected him. 

There was no point in staying any longer. Packing up her things, Adriane prepared to ask the manager to arrange a car for her, since she wanted to return 

to Jenkins‘ manor. 

Whether Zack lived or died had nothing to do with her. 

When she turned around, a man stopped her and said, “Miss Stewart.” The scene at the race track was so shocking that they even changed the way of addressing her. “Your phone was ringing all the time, so I answered it for you.” 

“I got it.” Adriane nodded her head. As she walked out, she scrolled through her phone records. 

“Aren’t you going to look after your cousin?” 

Adriane replied plainly, “There’s no point of being there since I’m not a doctor. I could not offer any help.” 

After all, she was Arthur Jenkins’s fiance. And it was so chaotic on the spot. No one dared to stop her. 

Seeing that it was a call from Yael, Adriane was puzzled. 

On the way to the changing room, she called Yael. Picking up the phone, Yael said, “Miss Stewart, why aren’t you back yet?” 

“I got delayed. I am on my way back. Did something happen?” 

“Mr. Arthur is badly ill!”

Chapter 21 

These few words were like a thunderclap to Adriane’s heart. She did not even take a shower. After she changed her clothes, she got into the car and kept urging the chauffeur to drive faster. 

About ten minutes after the car departed, Zack Frost’s parents called her. They must have known about the accident. 

With Arthur lying on her heart, she was in no mood to talk to them. She turned off her phone. 

The car drove for almost forty minutes before they finally arrived at Jenkins‘ manor. After they stopped outside Arthur’s mansion, someone came to fetch the chauffeur. Adriane hurriedly ran upstairs. 

Yael was already waiting outside Arthur’s room. He was overjoyed at the sight of Adriane. “Miss Stewart, you’re back!” 

“En…” She stared at Yael. “How is Mr. Arthur? Why hasn’t he been sent to the hospital?” 

Yael said worriedly, “He won’t even take the medicine, let alone go to the hospital. Miss Stewart, please persuade him.” 

Opening the door, Adriane walked in. 

The folding screen had already been moved away. The man was lying on a gray bed with a blanket covering his body. His pale face flushed morbidly, and his breathing was quick and uneven. 

Hearing footsteps, he slowly opened his eyes, looking in the direction of Adriane. 

She was so anxious that she ran rapidly. Her eyes were a little red and her nose became sour. She did not understand why he was badly ill only two days 

after she left. 

In her previous life, she had heard about this man’s legend from others. She knew that he had survived dangerous accidents. Even critical medical conditions could not strike him down. He created the miracle of living splendidly. 

Maybe it was not a miracle, she thought at that moment. It was the tenacity and mightiness Arthur possessed that helped him overcome all the sorrow and pain in life. He pictured the splendidness of life by his own efforts. 

After getting engaged to him, she gradually understood that he had a fragile side. 

The falling of the strong was what pained her the most. 

Walking to the bedside, she squatted down and stared at him blankly. Her heart was sour and bitter as she advised hoarsely, “Artie, let’s go to the hospital, okay? You are not in shape. You need to see the doctor.” 

Due to his illness, Arthur was a little confused. He looked at her for a few seconds before realizing that it was really hér. 

He did not answer Adriane’s question but said weakly, “Well, you are back.” 

Adriane was stunned. “Yes, I am back.” 

“What time is it already?” 

“Don’t think that I wait for you.” Showing his concern in a devious way, he realized that he had exposed his real feelings, then slowly shut his mouth. 

Knowing that Arthur established the image of aloofness in front of all the people, she did not expect him to be sweet and gentle. The most important thing now was to let him see a doctor. 

Hence, Adriane lowered her body, looking at him with watery eyes. “Let’s talk about this after you’ve recovered from the illness, alright? We need to go to the hospital now.” 

Arthur remained silent for a moment before replying calmly, “No.” 

She was a little angry and sad. “Health is the most important thing!”

“I know my own body,” he said, barely able to suppress a cough. 

Adriane quickly patted him on the back with his hands to help him breathe smoothly. In desperation, she did not even know what she was talking about. “What do you know! If you die like this, I’m going to be a widow!” 

Arthur immediately stopped coughing. He looked at her with attractive narrow eyes in which the deadness had faded due to the shock. 

The man who usually seemed to be emotionless was stunned for a long time before he chuckled. 

Adriane was about to cry. She rubbed her eyes in exasperation. “What are you laughing at? I didn’t say anything wrong.” 

She had been weighing on his mind for a whole day. Reason told him not to think about this little liar, but emotionally he could not get rid of her image in 

his mind. 

Seeing her and listening to her talk wiped away the sensation of choking which pestered him ceaselessly. 

He even had the mood to tease her. “You’re wrong. We’re not married yet. If I die, you won’t be a widow.”
