22 - Chapter Twenty-Two - Siryn’s Point Of View.

Siryn watched his family as time grew to pass, their small family of three grew into four, four into five, and so on until there were four kids and a fifth on the way. Time had been very kind to them. In four days Siryn would say goodbye to his first born but he didn't have fear any longer, his child was grown and trained well, he could hold his own, not that Siryn thought he would have to. If the box that arrived this morning was any clue to what was going to be in Thorn's life he was happy. Only good things came in small ring boxes. The note that came with the box gave extreme instructions that it was not to be given to Thorn until the second night after his twenty-second birthday. He tucked the box inside his drawer when he had gotten it.

Watching Thorn grow into a man had pleased him and filled him full of happiness that he didn't bury him that day.

Thorn had always wondered where the black gift boxes for all of his birthdays and occasionally other holidays had come from but he was never told. This year was different. The large box had arrived and was set aside. He knew the rules with the boxes, whoever had sent them to him made it very clear in the letters he was not allowed to open the gifts until afternoon on his birthday. This box was bigger than all the others he had gotten that he could remember. He had his own cabin in the village. Once he was dressed he took the large box to his parent's house. His father Siryn only smiled when he saw the box. He knew more about this shit then he was willing to let on about but that was okay. Thorn set the box down and honestly debated peeking inside, but as he tried that it was like someone scolded him. the feeling of shame started to creep over him. The chain with the ruby on it he got for his twentieth birthday was warm against his skin. Leaving the kitchen he kissed his father on the cheek.

"Keep that box away before I open it early and gods strike me down.” "Don't fear the gods, it's not them that will strike you down.”

"Hey geez, dad don't say creepy shit like that."

"Only the truth.”

Siryn 's words hung heavy in his own head, mostly just the word truth. He would have to tell Thorn the truth of his birth eventually, but when was the right time to tell your child you gave away his freedom. There was never a time for that.
