Chapter 558 Likes To Be In The Present

Inez was displeased, so she turned down his invitation. "No. You're done with your work, but I'm not. I won't be going."

Kieran was frozen to the spot.

Is she hinting that I did not help her with her work?

He walked back. "What is so urgent? I can help you with it. This is the first time I celebrate your birthday with you. Are you sure you don't want to go?"

Inez looked down. "I have had twenty over birthdays till now, and birthdays come every year. It's no big deal."

Kieran became bold and held her hand. "This is different. This is the first time I celebrate your birthday with you. It's special."

Inez said nothing.

Going on a date, a movie, having dinner, and going to a hotel...

In truth, she was very excited but continued to stay silent.

Kieran continued, "Before going out today, your mother told me that she will lock the villa from the inside. Even if you want to go back, you can't. You have to come with me." What?

Is she really my biological mother?

How can she betray her own daughter like this?

Kieran seemed to sense her displeasure, so he helped to explain, "Don't worry, Inez. Your mother does it because she loves you. I'm your fiancé. With me by your side, she will feel at ease." Inez was moved. "What kind of movie will we be watching?"

"Why don't we pick a romantic movie with good reviews?"

Inez nodded to herself. There are some improvements after all. At least, he didn't suggest a horror, sci-fi, or detective movie.

Since she was the CEO of Mossey Corporation, no one would dare to pass any comment if she wanted to take a few hours off work. The two of them soon left Mossey Corporation and drove to the cinema. They bought popcorn and soft drinks and began their date. For the rest of the afternoon, Gwendolyn was busy planning the new e-sports investment.

When it was time to go off work, her phone rang.

It was not Cedrick who was rushing her to go home.

Instead, it was Charles calling.

Gwendolyn answered her phone with suspicion. Charles seemed to be in high spirits. "Gwen, before you returned home, you said you wanted to give me a treat? It has been some time since you returned. When shall we meet? Have you forgotten all about it?"

His words rendered Gwendolyn speechless.

All the while, she was busy managing her mania at night while dealing with the business of Harris Group and figuring out Annie's identity during the day.

She had truly forgotten about it.

Hearing no reply from her, Charles came up with a reason for her. "I know you are an ambitious person and won't stop even though you are the richest person in Chanaea. You're busy. That's fine if you have forgotten about it. Shall we meet up if you are free tonight?"

"Fine. Let me give Cedrick a call and discuss with him the venue. I will call you back in half an hour's time."

Since Gwendolyn had given her word in exchange for Charles' care of the children, Cedrick did not refuse. Instead, he helped to choose a restaurant.

Thirty minutes later, the appointment for dinner was set.

In order not to let Charles be the odd one out, Gwendolyn invited Jennifer as well.

Siblings and spouses. Right! At least, there is a balance between the number of males and females.

Both men rushed to the restaurant on their own while Gwendolyn and Jennifer arrived late.

By the time the ladies arrived, both Cedrick and Charles had already waited for quite a while at the restaurant entrance.

The tall, well-built, and good-looking men looked like some kind of dignified lords standing outside the restaurant.

One look and one could not move their eyes away.

The moment Gwendolyn appeared, Charles' eyes had not left her face. In fact, he made his way to her faster than Cedrick.

"Gwen, you must have been very busy today. Are you

tired?"

Gwendolyn took a look at Cedrick's darkened face before answering, "I'm fine. There was an investment agreement that I had to deal with before coming here. As for Jennifer, she will face a lot of new challenges in the future now that she has a new job."

As she was talking, she made her way to Cedrick with Jennifer in tow.

Jennifer was conscious enough to take a step back and stood together with Charles.

Cedrick grabbed hold of his wife's hand and teased, "Mr. Newton, why aren't you wearing the watch that I have gifted you? Do you not like my present?"

Charles looked at the watch that had slight marks.

"Mr. Jenson, your gift is too precious to be knocked about, so I keep it at home. As for this watch..."

He touched the marks on the watch before continuing, "In the past, I had mysophobia. I thought I would never like things that have been used. But now, I realize that I am a sentimental person. I just haven't met the right person who can make me change."

Cedrick frowned and looked unhappy.

Others might not understand, but he felt that there was another meaning behind Charles' words.

The atmosphere at the entrance became odd because of Cedrick's gloomy aura.

In the end, it was Gwendolyn who lightened up the situation. "All right. Let's not stand here anymore. Both Jennifer and I are famished after working for the entire afternoon. Let's go in and order some food." The four of them soon went into the private room.

Naturally, Gwendolyn was seated next to Cedrick while Charles and Jennifer sat together.

It was an upmarket grilled meat restaurant, and the waiter brought out a fine selection of meats and vegetables.

Just as the waiter was about to help them grill the meats, Cedrick took over the utensil.

"You may leave. I will do it."

Cedrick was sure that his grilling skill was far better than the waiter's.

While he was grilling the meats, Charles began chatting with Gwendolyn.

"Gwen, I remember that you used to like grilled meats. I didn't expect that you still like the same thing. When we were young, I used to take you for horse racing. When we got hungry, we would stop and cook in the wild. You used to love my grilled lamb."

Gwendolyn stole a glance at Cedrick before she was about to respond.

However, before she could say anything, Cedrick interfered.

"Mr. Newton, no matter how delicious your grilled lamb used to be, that was in the past. Gwenny doesn't like to revisit the past. She prefers to be in the present and looks ahead. For example, she loves the food that I cook. Mr. Newton, what do you think?"

There was a hint of bitterness in Charles' blue eyes. He looked down and did not respond.

Gwendolyn was very happy with what Cedrick had said. "After all, I am the one who taught Ceddy how to cook. That's why it's very meaningful."
