Chapter 540 Mania Acting Up Again

Chapter 540 Mania Acting Up Again

Cedrick stopped blowing on the soup, stunned for a moment. However, he quickly returned to his senses.

"Darling, did you forget? Last night, you said the bedside lamp was too bright and asked me to take it away. You also told me not to put something like that near the bed anymore." Gwendolyn was dumbfounded.

"Why can't I remember anything? Besides, that lamp wasn't even that bright. Why did I think it was blinding?"

Cedrick smiled warmly as he continued to blow on the spoonful of soup. He brought it to her mouth and asked, "How should I know? A woman's mind is an unfathomable thing. You've been exhausted from work lately, so you might not have cared about small matters like these. It's normal to forget about it after waking up."

Is that normal? I don't think so! Gwendolyn felt it was strange. Although deep in thought, she obediently opened her mouth to let Cedrick feed her.

Cedrick stared at her fondly and tenderly while his hands continued to stir the soup to cool it down.

While Gwendolyn ate, her gaze drifted over to the other side of the bed. The strange feeling in her heart increased. "Hubby, why is your bedside lamp still there?"

To a perfectionist like her, if she were to remove the bedside lamp on her side, she would also have Cedrick's removed since the bedroom would look weird with only one lamp. Why would I remove only one bedside lamp because it was blinding?

Cedrick remained calm as he coaxed her, "Darling, I'll take it away later if you don't like it."

I will not put any more dangerous items on the bedside tables. If possible, I want to move Gwenny's dresser out of the bedroom too. We don't need anything else but this bed. However, he could only keep his thoughts to himself.

Seeing that Gwendolyn was still ruminating over the unusual situation in the room, Cedrick held out another spoonful of soup. "All right, Gwenny. It's just a small matter. You don't have to get worked up over it. You have a lot of work to complete today, right? It's almost one in the afternoon. I'll send you to Harris Group after you're done eating."

"It's almost one?"

At that point, Gwendolyn was beginning to grow doubtful about her life. Why do I sleep until noon every day? Why would I either have a headache or feel exhausted when I wake up? Why don't I wake up in between?

Cedrick quickly fed her more food to stop her from further thinking of the recent mysterious events.

Gwendolyn obediently finished the bowl of food. After that, she laid down on the bed while Cedrick gave her a massage.

The soreness she felt all over her body was soon relieved. She sat up and wrapped her slim arms around Cedrick's slender waist.

Since his waist had injuries from the whipping last night, Cedrick trembled slightly in pain as he scrunched his eyebrows.

Afraid that Gwendolyn would notice his odd demeanor, he forced himself to keep a neutral expression. He straightened his back and endured the pain as she hugged him.

Gwendolyn gently pecked his lips. "My husband is so considerate. If you continue to spoil me like this, I'll become a spoiled brat who doesn't know how to do anything herself."

Cedrick leaned forward and lightly rubbed the tip of his nose against hers. Smiling sweetly, he said, "It's nothing. My Gwenny is ambitious and wants to do great things. As your husband, it's only natural that I help you with these trivial matters."

Gwendolyn was touched. She tightened her arms around him and hugged him. "Thank you for being willing to support my career, Hubby."

Cedrick's eyelashes quivered. He quickly adjusted his breathing before whispering into her ear, "It's the least I can do."

After being in each other's embrace for some time, Gwendolyn finally got out of bed and went to wash up.

Only when she entered the bathroom did Cedrick's calm exterior crack. He furrowed his brows and hissed in pain.

Luckily, he had already changed into a suit, so Gwendolyn did not notice anything. Since she was sharp-witted, she would've found out about his injuries if he were still in his thin pajamas.

Twenty minutes later, Gwendolyn was changed into her usual working attire and had also put on some light makeup. Holding hands, they left the house together.

Cedrick drove Gwendolyn to the entrance of Harris Group himself.

When she disappeared into the company, his expression turned solemn as he wound up the window.

He took out his phone and called Joshua to tell him everything that happened the night before.

Joshua remained calm after listening to Cedrick's story.

"When Gwendolyn's mania acts up, she will lose her ability to think logically. Last night, instead of stopping to think, she chose to grab the bedside lamp and smash it. This is considered a normal form of venting when her mania acts up. When she wakes up, she won't remember what she did, either."

Cedrick understood Joshua's explanation. He was a little disappointed, but at the same time, he felt relieved.

Thank goodness Gwenny isn't using her illness to purposely torture me.

Cedrick was silent while Joshua continued, "Cedrick, you should drop by the lab. Let me have a look at your injuries and make sure they're not serious. You can also take home a few strong sedatives in case of any emergencies."

"Okay," Cedrick agreed. He turned the car around and drove to the lab.

At the lab, Cedrick took off his shirt and let Joshua check his wounds.

Joshua sighed in relief. "Thank goodness. They're just superficial injuries. You didn't injure any muscles or bones. But... for your body to be whipped to this extent, it must hurt a lot, huh?"

Cedrick stared at him strangely. "Why don't you try getting whipped a few times and see if it hurts?"

The corners of Joshua's lips twitched. "Forget it. I'm just a weak and helpless professor. I won't be able to endure more than a few strikes before I fall unconscious. I'm not as strong as you to withstand such a beating."

Cedrick glared at him as a cold glint flashed across his eyes.

Joshua chuckled as he sensed the threat coming from Cedrick. He patted Cedrick's exposed shoulder and said, "I don't mean anything by that. I'm just complimenting you, Cedrick. You're strong and have great stamina-"

"That's enough. Stop your flattery."

Joshua shut his mouth begrudgingly. He prescribed an anti-inflammatory cream that the lab made specifically to treat bruises. "This is better than the one you have at home. The only downside is it'll hurt more when you apply it."

Cedrick took the cream from Joshua. To him, a medicine that would help heal his wounds faster was precisely what he needed.

Before Cedrick left the lab, Joshua reminded, "Cedrick, if Gwendolyn goes into a frenzy again tonight, don't become a human punching bag and let her vent it out on you. It'll hurt even more to receive a beating when your injuries haven't healed. It's better if you find a way to inject her with the sedative."

Cedrick nodded and left.

Previously, Joshua said that taking too many potent sedatives would affect the nervous system, which isn't conducive to future treatments. It might even have an impact on curing Gwenny's mania. Regardless, I'll keep these sedative shots, just in case. I won't consider using them unless I have no other choice.

Meanwhile, Gwendolyn was focused on her work in the CEO's office of Harris Group.

Ever since international news reported the collaboration project between Harris Group and Dovil Group, Harris Group's stocks went up. The news was also well received by the public. When Gwendolyn found out that Annie was helping Antea Group to negotiate a particular collaboration, she sent a team of elites to snatch the business.

She was expecting good news to arrive within two days.

Even if the team couldn't win over the collaborating party, Gwendolyn felt the need to ruin Annie's plans and take revenge because the latter had stolen her business before.

The sky gradually turned dark. Gwendolyn, who had worked the whole afternoon, soon felt exhaustion take over her.

She had realized something off about her lifestyle lately. Apart from herself, she thought Cedrick was acting strange too.

It felt like he was hiding something from her, but she could not put a finger on what it was.

Gwendolyn felt a headache coming along. She closed her eyes and massaged her temples as she took a short break.

All of a sudden, a pair of warm hands grabbed her own. She opened her eyes to see Cedrick standing in front of her. "When did you arrive? How come I didn't hear you come in?"

"I arrived about a minute ago. I'm the husband of Harris Group's CEO, after all. Even your assistant won't be able to stop me."

Previously, when Gwendolyn had just taken over Harris Group, she had asked Cedrick's help to handle some businesses. Hence, she left a back door open so he could enter without needing her assistant to inform his arrival.

"Are you tired?" Cedrick gently rubbed the backs of her hands. "You won't be able to finish your work even if you worked twenty-four-seven. You ought to take some breaks. It's good to combine work and rest," he urged before bending down to sweep Gwendolyn into his arms. "Come on. Let's go home."

After dinner, Gwendolyn and Cedrick played a two-player mobile game.

It was a pleasant and harmonious atmosphere.

They continued playing until ten at night. Only then did Cedrick carry Gwendolyn up the stairs to take a shower.

"Goodnight, Hubby."

Gwendolyn kissed Cedrick's lips before lying down on the bed comfortably. She closed her eyes and went to sleep.

On the other hand, Cedrick remained awake. He stared at her sleeping figure, not daring even to blink.

When Gwendolyn's breathing stabilized, and Cedrick was sure she was fast asleep, he slowly and carefully got out of bed. He made his way toward the dresser and quickly gathered the bottles and the spray cans, storing them away as a precaution.

When he was done, he chose to sit beside the bed despite feeling exhausted. He stared at Gwendolyn sleeping in silence for some time.

Seeing no signs of her acting up, he sighed and relaxed, then dragged his tired body onto the bed to lie down.

Cedrick had just closed his eyes and fallen asleep for not even a minute when he sensed a gust of wind coming toward him.

His eyes immediately snapped open. He grabbed Gwendolyn's right wrist despite being unable to see clearly in the dark. However, it was useless.
