Chapter 516 Gwendolyn Goes On A Business Trip

Treyton knew that Jennifer had always been an ambitious and career-minded woman.

Therefore, he had no reason to object when she wanted to continue pursuing her career.

He stroked her head lovingly. "Okay. Because you were sick previously, I told the team to stop accepting job offers. It's been too long since you last filmed a movie. I'll ask them to get you a web series tomorrow, and you can familiarize yourself with things again. What do you think?"

Jennifer wavered for a while before she chose to listen to the man and obediently nodded in acquiescence.

Her memories had presently lapsed four years. As such, her maturity from the past few years of work was gone, and her eyes reverted to their innocence and naivety in the past.

Back then, Treyton fell for her innocence, kindness, and cuteness. As he looked at her then, it felt like she had returned to her adorable self when he first made her acquaintance.

Well, things seem to be pretty great now. It doesn't matter that she no longer remembers me. We'll start all over again!

The day of the global open tender by Dovil Group drew increasingly nearer.

It would be held three days later at a seven-star hotel in Astoria, Fransia Hotel.

Gwendolyn went all out for the open tender. She drafted a business proposal and worked overtime into the dead of night, revising it five times.

It was then one o'clock in the morning, but she was still burning the midnight oil.

Dissatisfied with a few aspects of the proposal, she planned to amend everything in her strive for perfection before going downstairs to rest.

Creak!

The soft creak of a door opening drifted into the air.

The study door opened a crack, and a pair of enigmatic ebony eyes cautiously peered at the situation in the room amidst the darkness.

Gwendolyn's hands continued flying across the keyboard. Out of the blue, she uttered, "Come in. It's your house, yet you're acting all sneaky. Someone ignorant might even take you for a thief." When her words rang out, the study door swung open widely.

Cedrick, who had been abandoned in the bedroom, slipped in. "Don't stay up so late. Gwenny. It's bad for health."

Gwendolyn's eyes remained fixed on the computer, and she did not bother sparing him a glance. "There's still one last aspect hanging in the balance. I'll go back to the room when I'm done. Go to bed first if you're sleepy. Don't wait for me."

At that, words eluded Cedrick.

He forcibly suppressed the irritation blazing within him. "You said the exact same thing when I came over ten minutes ago, half an hour ago, an hour ago, and even three hours ago. You could at least change things up if you're brushing me off, Darling."

"Uh... Is that so?"

Gwendolyn rubbed the tip of her nose in embarrassment.

Striding over, Cedrick scooped her up from the chair without a word. He plopped down on her chair and settled her on his lap.

"Neal and I are acquaintances. Since he had agreed to an internal selection for this open tender, you can just have your employees draw up a business proposal and submit it to him. You'll definitely get the collaboration, so why must you do everything yourself? It's tiring."

Weariness lined Gwendolyn's face. "I know, but I don't want to depend on your connections, much less end up disparaged for cinching the collaboration via internal selection through the back door. Only by coming up with a sufficiently sincere business proposal would I be able to convince everyone of my victory and earn the open tender rightfully."

Cedrick brushed his fingers across her cheek, his eyes brimming with distress.

Knowing that she was a stubborn person who would never change her mind easily once she had made a decision regarding a work matter, he did not bother dissuading her further.

Instead, he asked, "The open tender is in three days, and you'll have to go abroad for a business trip then. How long are you planning to stay there?"

"I'll finish the final business proposal tonight, then buy a ticket for an early flight tomorrow. If everything goes smoothly, I'll be back in a few days."

"How many days exactly?" Cedrick put on a long face before whining, "A day without you feels like a decade. Aren't you making me live without you for decades, Darling?"

Hearing that, Gwendolyn burst into giggles. "Stop exaggerating."

Cedrick sighed, still as worried as ever. "No, I've got to go with you. I'll work remotely. We can regard this trip as our belated honeymoon. We'll go on a vacation and have fun for a few days."

At once, Gwendolyn's expression turned solemn. She flicked him on the forehead lightly. "That won't do. With you gone, Mdm. Yarde would be left taking care of the kids alone. What if something were to happen?"

"I'll call Nico over and have him help Mdm. Yarde take care of the kids."

"Once you leave, you'd have to hand the affairs at the Federal Bureau of Investigation to him, no? He also has to manage things at Jenson Group and report meeting minutes to you regularly. Now, you even want him to take care of Benny and Zendy. How could he possibly handle so many things?"

Cedrick went silent with a sullen look on his face.

Wrapping her arms around his neck, Gwendolyn flashed him a sweet smile. "Don't worry. I promise to be back in a few days. Nothing will happen. Be good and handle things both within the country and our family. You're not allowed to go after me. Do you hear me?"

However, Cedrick hung his head without responding to that.

Gwendolyn lifted his chin and pressed a consoling kiss on his lips.

Initially, her plan was only to kiss him lightly.

Unexpectedly, things spiraled out of control.

Just when they were about to go past the point of no return, she called a halt in the nick of time.

"Cut it out. The door is still opened."

Ignoring her, Cedrick locked his hands around her slender waist. "Mdm. Yarde and the kids are asleep, so they'd never go downstairs. Other than them, there's no one else in this villa. What's there to fear?" He leaned forward to kiss her again, but Gwendolyn clapped a hand over her mouth and pushed him away. "No way. Mdm. Yarde is in the habit of waking up at night. It'd be utterly embarrassing if she were to see us at it later. You've got no shame, but I do."

Once again, Cedrick was struck dumb.

Dejection swamped him.

The tidal surge of desire within him was bursting at the seams, yet he had to force it back because of Zoey and the two little ones.

Argh! The two babies must be my punishment from God, huh? Even now, they're taking my wife's love away from me. It'd only be worse when they've grown up!

Burying his head in her chest, he harrumphed in dissatisfaction. "You're going abroad tomorrow, but I can't even have a taste of you before you leave. How pitiful of me!"

His pitiful remark, coupled with his low and hoarse voice, tugged at Gwendolyn's heartstrings.

Indeed, I'm going to be away for several days. He'd likely be beyond frustrated at home, so it'd be unreasonable for me to leave him hanging.

Following that thought, she relented.

"Go and close the door, then. Remember to do the same for the windows as well."

In a flash, Cedrick perked up. He pecked her on the cheek before readily getting to his feet to close the door.

Upon his return, he placed her on the desk and gazed at her with his head tilted back. His voice, which dripped with desire, was incredibly seductive. "The study is a great place. We can work and have supper here."

A bewitching smile bloomed on Gwendolyn's face

Early the following morning, Gwendolyn seized the opportunity while Cedrick was still sleeping soundly and quietly left Harrick Villa with her luggage.

If he were to wake up, he'd insist on seeing me off. At that time, it'd be troublesome if he were reluctant to part with me and insist on going with me.

After leaving the Jenson residence, she rushed to the airport.

She got her boarding pass and waited in the waiting lounge for over an hour.

For the business trip this time, she did not bring anyone along, keeping a low profile by traveling alone.

When the broadcast system in the waiting lounge announced her flight, she slowly made her way to the boarding gate while wheeling her suitcase behind her.

However, things were exceedingly strange that day.

She was the only person walking down the jetway.

Lingering briefly, she ascertained that no other passengers were turning up. She then glanced at the flight ticket she bought.

It's correct, the business class.
