Chapter 96 Like Mother, Like Daughter

“It really does look like it! Elissa followed my gaze and also felt the resemblance, her face filled with excitement. “Let’s

go!”

Elissa unbuckled her seatbelt and quickly got out of the car.

I followed closely behind, chasing into the hotel lobby together.

However, there was no sign of Charlie and Evelyn.

I and Elissa had no choice but to walk up to the hotel front desk. Elissa softened her voice as she asked, “Excuse me, were the man and woman who just entered, is there a big age difference between them?”

Elissa was pretty and had a smile that easily disarmed people.

One of the receptionists was young and fell for it. “Seems pretty big…”

“How different? Don’t speak out of turn.” 

The other mature receptionist immediately cut her off, looking over. “I’m sorry, we can’t disclose any information

about our guests. 

“That old man seems to be my father!” Elissa’s mind was racing, her voice trembling with tears, “My mother helped him from nothing, went through so much hardship, and now that he’s made some money, he’s actually raising a mistress behind my mother’s back!”

I was amazed at Elissa’s ability to fabricate stories, but the young front desk staff was indignant. “That’s outrageous!

The old bastard!”

Elissa knew they wouldn’t get anywhere with the young receptionist in charge, so she looked at the other one and shook her arm, “Just tell me, were the man and woman who just went in called Charlie Valence and Evelyn Valence?”

“No.”

Upon hearing the names, the front desk staff answered precisely. “Alright, young lady, you can rest assured now. You

must have mistaken them.”

It didn’t sound like a lie.

Elissa glanced at me, who shook my head. “I don’t think we made a mistake.“.

Although Evelyn wasn’t wearing the outfit she had on during the day at the hospital, it was a style that I found somewhat familiar.

It should be something Evelyn had worn before.

And Charlie’s outfit was always the same old trendy style.

Even if they had made a mistake, they wouldn’t have mistaken both of them.

Elissa took out her phone, and I guessed what she wanted to do, reaching out to stop her and pulling her away. “It’s useless. What’s the point of reporting them for soliciting? Even if the police come and find them in the same room, it won’t prove anything.”

Charlie and Evelyn were nominally father and daughter.

“Donald Quill, are you at the hospital? Can you check if Evelyn is there?”

“She’s not here.”

Donald quickly replied, “She left about an hour ago. Is everything okay?”

“Yes, thank you.”

After hanging up, I became more certain. “We definitely didn’t make a mistake. They are definitely Evelyn Valence and my father–in–law.”

Elissa pondered, saying, “Should we wait here for them?”

“No need.”

I immediately vetoed. “Let’s go have a drink.”

“Why?”

“They didn’t even use their real identities when booking a room.”

Glancing at the time, I said, “It’s almost time for nightlife, and in a five–star hotel, it’s easy to run into acquaintances. They won’t come out together like they did just now.”

It was quite cautious.

No wonder no one had noticed that Charlie and Evelyn’s relationship was different.

Elissa thought about it and agreed. Starting the car, she happily said, “I told you. It didn’t feel right when I saw them at the mall last time. Where would you find a stepdaughter and stepfather so intimate? Turns out they’re playing the mother–daughter act.”

“It seems that Christopher, fussing around, is actually protecting his second stepmother?”

“Compared to him,” I pursed my lips, “I’m more curious about how Brenda will react if this is true.”

Today at the hospital, Brenda was still working so hard to protect her daughter.

At this hour, the night at the bar was just beginning, with loud music pounding the eardrums, and men and women dancing intimately in the dance floor, as if entering a bizarre world.

As they prepared to enter the private room as usual, Elissa stopped 1 and said, “Let’s sit outside. It’s lively out there.”

“Okay.”

I knew that Elissa had gotten used to hanging out with Ivan over the years. Ivan had many friends, and it was always a lively group whenever they went out.

I and Elissa found a booth and sat down. Elissa nestled into the leather sofa and poured two glasses of wine.

Suddenly, Elissa blurted out. “Hope, how did you feel when you and Christopher applied for divorce?”

I was taken aback, my fingertips slightly tightening on the square cup. “It was a bit sad, but also a bit of a relief.”

In any case, it was a complex mix of emotions,

Elissa looked at me with her beautiful eyes, the wine glass against her red lips. “Was it more sad or more of a relief?”

I admitted that Elissa’s question made my sad.

Facing anyone else, I could hypocritically say that it was more of a relief.

But the person asking this question was Elissa. I downed the brown liquid in my cup and said frankly, “At the time, it

was sadder.”

Sad that I had deeply loved Christopher for so many years, only for him to choose someone else.

What was even sadder for I was that Christopher always said that Evelyn couldn’t affect them, but this marriage had come to an irreconcilable end because of Evelyn.

I would rather Christopher had simply betrayed me, boldly and openly.

In that case, I would have felt more relieved.

Elissa pressed on. And now?

I smiled and poured myself another glass of wine. I’m learning to stop loving him slowly.”

When I no longer loved him, there would be no more sadness.

I knew Elissa were still sad, and she understood that coming out of a relationship always took some time. She couldn’t help but advise. “Do you know what the most stable relationship between people is?”

Elissa asked curiously, “What?”

I replied, “It’s having no relationship at all.”

Suddenly, a large hand landed on my shoulder from behind. A man asked with a deep voice, “No relationship with what?”
