Chapter 22 I Said No, and Would You Believe It?

“If it was some time ago, Evelyn’s words would surely affect my mood.

Christopher didn’t answer me; he just looked down at Evelyn in his arms. He frowned, seeming impatient yet concerned. “You’re not a child. How can you cry so much from a fall? I’ll take you to the hospital.

Then, he left quickly, as if afraid that something might happen to the woman he cherished, leaving behind a cold

silhouette. 

I took a deep breath, trying to widen my eyes and hold back the tears.

Hope, what are you disappointed about? He’s your ex–husband now.”

As soon as they were out of sight, Connie rushed in anxiously. “Hope, are you okay?”

“I’m fine.” I forced a smile. Christopher couldn’t treat me in any way.

Otherwise, he needed help explaining to Bentley.

Connie pursed her lips in the direction they left. “Mr. Valence just carried Ms. Valence out like that. Everyone is guessing what their relationship is. Is she really his wife?“”
