“So you ended up in the hospital only to find Cidro’s future esposa? That’s wonderful news! Fantastico.” Belmira beamed at her son and kissed his cheeks. He ran away from her death trap and stood behind the boys.

“No, ma. From all of Divana’s unfortunate story and dad’s injury, you only got the part where they decided to get us married? Use some logic, ma! Please be reasonable.” He begged his mom, and we all laughed at his struggle, it was funny to watch.

At first, we ate Belmira’s delicious dinner before explaining what happened with us and told her about the sudden attacks. She was such a pure soul who made me feel like having a mother at this age was a great notion. It felt right. She then introduced us to some of the mafia members. Their features screamed danger, but their personalities said otherwise. They were sweet-hearted angels. Belmira saw that we bonded pretty well, and she made us play a friendly basketball game with them. They beat us by five points; however, we all had fun. Their mafia organization was harmless to the innocent, and it made me feel secure. I understood the residents’ feelings after I got to know them. Never judge people by their looks, get to know them first.

“That was entertaining,” I said as I caught my breath.

Dorian looked at me and smiled. “Yeah, it’s a nice change.”

We all sat on the grass, laughing at Cidro’s embarrassing baby pictures, and as I was about to ask more questions about their lives, a car pulled over. A crying girl came out of it, running and hugged Jino. No one had the time to react as she cried harder into his arms. “Why do we have feelings? They always end up hurting me, whether they were happy feelings, angry, or sad.” She wept more on Jino’s shoulder, and we saw the mafia members, Jino, and Cidro glare at whoever made her feel like crap. It was a humorous and scary scene because they were glaring at the sparse grass.

Belmira took the girl from Jino and embraced her tightly as she kissed her forehead. “What is it, Dylla, querida? Tell me who hurt you!” she asked. The boys and I waited in silence. We did not know how to react to a sight where more than ten mafia members were standing with guns out, and intimidating looks on. Their sweet smiles vanished.

“Awkward,” Roy said out loud, and I slapped his head real hard. Can’t he sense the tension?

Dylla cleared her throat and wiped her tears, but for some reason, they felt like hot tears to me. She sniffed and took a deep breath. “My date… He wanted to sleep with me on our first date. I hardly knew him; hence I rejected his offer and was about walk away when he pulled me to a dark alley. I grasped the fact that he wanted to rape me, so I kicked and punched him too hard to the point where he could not walk. I had to drag him to the police station. As soon as they saw him half dead in my grip, their eyes widened in shock. Apparently, he was a serial rapist on the run, and they have been looking for him while he was having his ‘fun’ with me.” She explained, and all of us were left dumbfounded, even Belmira. This confirmed that the world was corrupted, and yet there were still good people out there.

“That’s my daughter!” Jino exclaimed and held her with a proud smile. “But since he couldn’t do anything to you, why are you crying then? You did an amazing job. You should be proud, dear.” He encouraged her heroic deeds. However, I felt her anger rise.

“That’s the thing! Every single date I had in my life ended up with the guy being either a killer, a player, and now a serial rapist! When will I ever have a normal life here?” she yelled in frustration, and I kind of understood her point of view. She was struggling, and I have been in her shoes, still not in the same size of shoes. I walked to her and just hugged her. That was so out of my character, though I did not give a shit at that moment. I did not know why something about what she said hit a nerve in me, and I could not help it. Relating to someone can bring out emotions you never knew you owned.

“Dating is overrated, you should get a dog.” I said in a serious tone, which made her break that frown into a bright smile. “A smile is the best accessory one could ever possess, don’t you forget that.”

Everyone nodded at my statement, and I felt relieved. “You are right, but who are you again?” Dylla asked in confusion.

I laughed. “I’m Divana, that’s Dorian, Lance, and Roy. We are friends of, well, everyone here.” I introduced, and all of them agreed. Dylla looked so perplexed. Therefore Cidro decided to explain how his dad met us and how we met him. He left out the part about his future esposa, though. I made a mental note to tell her later.

“You had one hell of an adventure,” Dylla said after a while, and I nodded then glanced at the boys. Oh, you have no idea!

Roy cleared his throat, which made me focus my attention on him. “Guys, I would love to chat more, but I want to take Isa out for a movie. Can we go?” he decided to open a dating related subject in front of a person who recently got over a dating trauma. I sighed at his carelessness and wanted to hit him again; only Dorian did the honors and wrapped his arm around his neck with a sly smile. Poor Roy, he looked so confused. It was his fault that he was an idiot.

“Well, it was nice meeting you all. We do have to go. Cidro, can you drive us home?” Dorian asked politely, and Cidro nodded with a smile. I bid my goodbyes and was about to get in the car when something stopped me, or preferably someone doing something held me back. I caught Lance gazing at Dylla with a soft smile. I felt wicked to witness such a pure sight—the irony.
