We Are
Powerless

After a while, most people seemed to come to the conclusion that we were indeed awake, though I had my doubts.

The planet was nice enough, and had plenty of edible food for us to eat, but that wasn’t the point.

We were all trapped here against our will, and the only way to return to Earth seemed to be if we kissed the metaphorical ring of Blob and their minions.

“There has to be SOME way out of this!” Tina said, as she paced back and forth, and the rest of us also racked our brains for what options we might have.

“Is there, though?” Alvis (who’d been one of the ones who’d been hiking with us) asked, to which Rishi (who’d also been a part of our hiking crew) glumly added, “Blob does seem to have us pretty well contained. Getting back to Earth without doing Blob’s bidding seems like a pretty daunting task right now.”

Suddenly, a lady walked up to where we were, and greeted us, saying, “Hey! I’m Aleeza, and I usually am able to wield a power that could potentially get us off of this planet, but for some reason I’m unable to use it at the moment.”

“Power, eh?” Bill said dubiously, “What can you do with it?”

“Well, nothing at the moment; but on Earth I could transport to places, defend myself, fly, and other sorts of useful things like that.”

“Surely, you can understand why we’d have our doubts about all of this,” I said, thoughtfully, “but I’m open to thinking that it’s possible, seeing as we just got sped over here by a weird gooey tyrant of some sort. Why do you think that you can’t use your powers?”

“I don’t know,” Aleeza admitted, “but I can assure you that more power holders must be up here; and would y’all like to help me search for them?”

None of us had anything better to do, and so we all set off with Aleeza in hopes of finding some of the others who supposedly might be able wield some sort of mysterious power (unless this planet was blocking them from using it in the same way that it was blocking Aleeza from using it).

We searched around and around and around and around and around and around and around and around and around and around and around and around and around, but Aleeza couldn’t find any of her other power friends, and her power didn’t return to her either.

It actually wasn’t surprising that finding them wasn’t working out so well, because it seemed as though at least millions of people were on the planet with us, and Aleeza finding her particular friends seemed to be comparable to finding a needle in a haystack.

See, she hadn’t been with any of them when Blob had grabbed her up from Earth; which seemed to explain why all of us who’d been hiking together had been dropped off at the same location on the prison planet, but she had been dropped off pretty far from where her comrades were.

Also, many of them may’ve not spoken up because they’d figured that remaining on Earth to fight would be preferable to being imprisoned. Who knew, though. Either way, we weren’t finding any of them.

Blob would return about every week or two, and would always bring new people with them.

Of course, there were always people who were on the prison planet who decided to pledge allegiance to Blob when they arrived, and this meant that some newbies would arrive and some oldies would leave.

On one such occasion, Aleeza told us that she could probably do more good on Earth, and she pledged allegiance to Blob while crossing her fingers.

We wondered if Blob would notice the crossed fingers, and not accept her statement because of it, but Blob either didn’t know or didn’t care, and Aleeza was plucked away from the prison planet and was presumably headed back to Earth where hopefully she could use her powers to defeat Blob.

Now, our little group was back to just Tina, Alvis, Bill, Rishi, and I; and we weren’t sure what to do now that we didn’t have the goal of trying to help Aleeza locate her power friends anymore…
