Chapter 54

Mother Confessor:

Sweat beading upon my brow as I concentrate on holding myself up. The Captain must have sensed my near slip. His head signals in my peripheral vision to not falter. My body begging to be in motion from stiff joints. The minutes passing felt like hours while we wait for Sergeant Nimix to be relieved. More and more I begin to have the feeling that I should rather like to run like hell than to face the ill tempered General. Stiff as a board I stand beside the Captain. The bead of sweat goading me to move by slowly trickling down the bridge of my nose. Making me tremble in my skin knowing I should dare not wipe it free of my face. These moments were becoming agonizing with the inability to move, filled with anxiety of what the General will have to say to us who wait in rigid ness in the busy corridor. Oh how I envy the many busy passers, what I would give for even just a moment to join them on their way.

Marckus:

After visiting the armory and paying an uninvited visit to Colonel Visacca. Her aged face was just as strict as her crisp dress uniform. She was very displeased with me leaving the ant soldier, fidgety centipede, and undisciplined gecko under her watch. I am expecting a very thorough and stern earful from the elderly officer when I go back to retrieve the three. Having told her to order a pot of coffee and work on her social skills on my way out. I swear the old officer would have slammed the door in my face if she could.

Still being entertained by the look on the old Colonel’s face as I made my way to where the armory guard had said Captain could be found. I spot him about ten meters away as I finish walking the distance. Why is he just standing there? No one else in the broad corridor pays them any attention as they go about their routine. No one seems to be entering or exiting the door beside him. The story behind his odd behavior should be most entertaining. At a little of three meters I notice him glancing down to his left. Almost as if there were something of significance on his shoulder or very near it.

Moving a bit faster in the river of soldiers flowing in the corridor. I see what his wandering eye was looking at. There beside him stood the pale blue woman, though now she wore Centurian issue fatigues and clean shaven skull. Not that they tried, but she still looked extraordinarily feminine despite shaving her head and dressing her in BDUs.

Upon closer inspection of her I notice her lip is healing from some sort of injury. As well as a mark on her forehead from some sort of impact. Looks awfully familiar to the muzzle sight on a 15 mm. Uttering a small ,“humph”, at seeing it.

“Well, children why are we standing in the hall”, I address the pair of living statues.

“General’s orders, sir”, Captain Graxis chimes in.

“I see. How is the good General”, I ask the Captain. He motions with his head toward the door. Stepping close to the door and bringing my ear close to the metal panel. A muffled voice hoarse from shouting comes to me.

“Well that is not like the General at all. She sounds pissed! Glad it is not at me”, I say to them,” better go and cool her down, give you a moment to stretch at least.” Taking a moment to pause to wipe the small bead of sweat from the females nose.

“That looked to be bothering you miss”, I say with slight chuckle as I wipe it off on her sleeve.

“Thank you, sir”, she bellows in appreciation.

Placing a calloused finger on her lips,” I said you could stretch. I did not say you could speak.” Turning my attention back to the door and the severely enraged General and who she was telling off beyond it.

Taking a deep breath getting my composure back. Rapping hard on the metal door. The hoarse General goes silent within. Rapping again on the metal before entering. Slapping the entry pad beside the door. I cautiously enter the room.

Graxis:

Taking the Ober-Commander’s advice as he disappears into the room. It felt good to move. Looking at the Private. A look of relief on her soft features. Flexing tense muscles and prompting blood flow in them. They relax a little in the few moments liberty to move. Standing up against the wall once more refreshed for the inactivity.
