Chapter 40

Mother Confessor:

On my hands and knees, sweat starts to bead on my brow. Sergeant Nimix watching as I work. Using a small brush and cleaning solution in a bucket, I scrub the buildup of gunk from between the seams of the metal plates on the bathroom floor of the barrack. The Sergeant got a good bit of amusement when she handed m the bucket and small brush, calling them my ’mop and bucket”. She laughed dryly from the expression on my face as she handed me the items. It seemed like an impossible feat to scrub the entire floor with such a miniscule implement.

My sleeves rolled up my forearms, working the small brush and solution deep in the crevices. I was putting what the Sergeant calls ‘elbow grease’ into the task, firmly into the grooves. My shoulders have a slight burn in them, and my elbows feel like overstretched rubber bundlers.

Graxis:

Abruptly waking up, and falling off my bunk in the process. Slamming into the cold metal floor as I roll off the bedding. Feeling as if I were pushed rather than just rolling over the edge. Pushing off the hard surface rising to my feet. Looking about my quarters confused a few moments, trying to regain my bearings. Rubbing the side of my face still mildly throbbing from the impact. I decide that the best way to shake the little event off is to get out of my personal space for a while.

Dressing in the silence, wondering what we will find out by Saturn in two days more travel to the small solar system. Sitting on the bunk lacing up my boots, trying to will time to pass faster. Though to no avail as the clock keeps even pace with the passage of time. Standing up from the bunk, I head towards the door.

In my eagerness to be out of my own space, I head off toward the mess hall. Should be a nice change of pace from spending that time eating alone, or passing out on a metal table from working until the early hours of the morning. My body still feeling a bit fatigued from the night before from dancing. Making the mental note as I traverse the corridor just outside my quarters in the direction I wish to go.
