Twisted Ties of Love
Chapter 292

"Beep... beep..." The phone in Izabella's hand was still ringing.

Izabella was gasping weakly, the pungent smell of smoke enveloping her respiratory tract. At this moment, her felt like her throat was being tightly gripped by a hand. With one hand on the ground, dragging her useless legs bit by bit, she finally picked up the remote control from the ground and turned on the television.

At exactly twelve o'clock, the engagement party reached its climax. The scene of the engagement party was being broadcast live on television. The soon-to-be-married couple shone brightly today. The man was noble and handsome, and the woman by his side was wearing a long dress. They looked very well-matched.

Izabella's gaze was fixed on Brett. She silently listened to the ringing sound. After it rang ten times, she saw Brett frown on the TV screen and pull out his phone from his jacket. As soon as he saw the caller ID, he picked it up immediately.

"What is it?"

Izabella gripped the phone in her hand, speaking calmly, "Brett, I can see you."

Brett relaxed slightly upon hearing Izabella's voice, instinctively looking around for her. Then, he froze. Izabella's legs were broken. How could she be here?

"Are you watching the live broadcast?" Brett asked.

"Yes."

"Don't watch it." Brett found the live camera and looked into it. It was as if the two were staring at each other across time and space.

"It's your engagement party, how could I not watch it? After all, we have known each other for so many years, an ex-wife should send her blessings to her ex-husband." Izabella said sarcastically, watching Bret on the TV. Her hoarse voice sounded chilling if listened to closely.

Brett's eyebrows furrowed. Her sarcastic words hurt him deeply. It felt like he was being tormented by Izabella.

At this engagement party, he could face countless blessings, but he couldn't accept Izabella's blessings, not even fake ones. Over the phone, he heard a lot of background noise. A strong sense of unease rose in Brett's heart. He quickly shifted the subject and asked several questions in a row: "Why is there so much noise there? What are you doing? Where is Katie?"

The bedroom was full of flammable items. The fire that had started at the door had already spread to the middle of the room. Embers were floating in the air, and in a moment, they would reach the television, causing an explosion.

Izabella leaned her head back against the floor-to-ceiling window, phone in one hand, covering her nose with the other, and coughed in a muffled voice: "Brett, I had someone prepare an engagement gift for you. He should have arrived at the venue already."

The first person Brett thought of was Nathaniel. His immediately felt uncomfortable and heavily burdened, almost suffocating.

"I don't want to receive your engagement gift. If you really want to give me a gift, wait until I come back and give it to me in person." Brett had a feeling that Izabella would disappear before he got back. That kind of emptiness swept over him.

"But this 'gift' can only be delivered by someone else on my behalf." Izabella watched Brett on the TV and said sarcastically: "Brett, you said you only liked me, only loved me, and that my disappearance would drive you insane... Now I want you to remember what you said!"

After speaking, Izabella's tears were choked out by the smoke, stinging so much that she couldn't open her eyes. She took one last look at the blurred TV screen.

The golden light in the church was shining on him, as if an angel had descended. He stood in the crowd, his expression changing from arrogant to panic-stricken.

Izabella laughed, a sobbing sound coming from her nostrils as if she was crying. She looked at the blinding flames and before Brett could say anything, she mustered all her strength and shouted: "I wish you a happy marriage, I wish you both grow old together and never separate!"

After speaking, she hurled her phone forcefully into the raging fire. Accompanied by an explosion, the phone shattered into pieces. Izabella turned around, her forehead pressed against the window, looking at Niki, covered in blood.

"I've only taken care of you for a few months, and you treat me so well, whereas he..." She laughed self-deprecatingly, the light in her eyes gradually fading. "At least the person I first fell for wasn't him." Izabella placed her hand on the window, touching Niki's head through the glass. "Niki, this place is about to catch fire. I don't want you to see this, leave quickly, and let me find you in our next life."

It wasn't her who found Niki in this life, but Niki who found her. Let me find you in the next life, alright?

Niki's face was smeared with fresh blood, and he croaked, "Meow..."

Suddenly, the television stopped playing. Besides the sound of the flames, there was the humming of electricity. The fire spread to the walls and in the blink of an eye engulfed the bed. Izabella wore a relieved smile. After another explosion, the beam of the house collapsed in front of Izabella. The flames licked at her toes, causing immense pain.

Bearing the pain, Izabella collapsed on the ground, half-squinting at the foggy sky.

Today was Christmas Day. The window was covered in dust, like the falling snowflakes from the sky. Izabella gazed blankly at the sky.

If she had known she would be tormented by him to this extent, she would have let Brett freeze to death in the water on that Christmas Eve years ago.

Izabella clutched her stomach. Her grandfather had fought stomach cancer for two years and still couldn't make it in the end. She had lived for three years, and that was enough.

She wondered if her parents and grandfather would forgive her when she saw them again.

She had been blind in love and made a wrong choice, resulting in the destruction of her family.

She couldn't even forgive herself, let alone them.

Blood gushed out of her mouth. Amidst the pain, she seemed to see Ryker. He was still a child, squatting on the ground, turning his head back and smiling at her: "Climb up, I'll carry you home." "You've finally come to pick me up..." She reached out to the flames. In her short life, she had only been warmed twice. Once when Ryker carried her home when she was eight, and the other was this fire, the blazing flames bringing tears to her eyes.

Tears flowed down her cheeks, into her mouth, carrying a salty taste. She couldn't tell whether it was the taste of tears or blood, but they both had one thing in common - they turned bitter when kept in the mouth for long, more bitter than any medicine she had ever tasted.

This life was too bitter for her; she wanted the next one to be a little sweeter. If possible, she hoped someone would put her ashes into a sugar jar after her death, sprinkle some sugar, and scatter it into the sea, because there was someone there who once promised to carry her home with a doughnut in his hand.

As the flames seared her feet, Izabella, in agony, frantically scratched at the glass. Her hands bled, the glass smeared with horrifying bloodstains, traces of her desperate struggle before death.
