Twisted Ties of Love
Chapter 269

Izabella got so scared that her mind went blank, almost dropping her phone.

She quickly reacted, thinking that there could be many people with the same name and surname in this world. This Nathaniel might not be the one she knew.

Moreover, she had changed her phone number and social media accounts.

Izabella didn't dare to click accept, throwing her phone aside and went on with her business, trying to shake off the uneasiness in her heart.

However, the name "Nathaniel" kept circling in her mind, making her unable to concentrate on anything. At night, she took out her phone again, only to find that he had added her three times in a row, even attaching a verification message.

Nathaniel asked, "Don't recognize me? Since you left Brett, do you want to give me a shot? I'm quite interested in you."

There was no doubt now - this was Nathaniel. How did he get her number?

Izabella's hands were shaking from nervousness, like having Parkinson's disease, and the bright light above her head made her eyes hurt.

In the end, she clicked "accept."

Nathaniel seemed to have been waiting for her message all along. After becoming friends, he sent a message.

Nathaniel: [Izabella, how have you been these past two months?]

Izabella replied using voice-to-text: [How did you find out where I am?]

Nathaniel: [Do I need to investigate on my own? Just follow Brett, it's him looking for you, not me. He almost went crazy not finding you during these days.] Izabella's heartbeat sped up, her face turning pale from fright. Nathaniel found her by following Brett, so that meant Brett already knew where she was? Nathaniel kept sending messages, but Izabella couldn't focus on her phone anymore. After a while, she stiffly checked the last message.

Nathaniel: [Want to beg me? Become my girl, and I won't let Brett take you away.]

Time ticked away.

Not getting a reply from Izabella, Nathaniel sent a voice message: [Even if you agree now, it's too late. Brett is already at your doorstep.]

Izabella's breathing stopped, her mind went blank, and she dropped her phone on the floor. She didn't bother to pick it up, immediately grabbing her luggage and packing up her clothes and supplies.

The more nervous she got, the harder packing became. She gritted her teeth and threw the luggage bag away, putting on her backpack - it contained more than a hundred thousand in cash and a loaded bank card. She could always buy more clothes and stuff, but if she got caught by Brett, her life would be over.

Izabella had never been this nervous before, tears welling up in her eyes. She frantically picked up her backpack, sweating profusely, breathing rapidly, and her hands and feet went weak.

With trembling hands, she opened the door and ran downstairs, just as a black luxury car parked in front of the rental building, flashing its lights.

The car door opened, revealing the man she feared, accompanied by several well-dressed bodyguards.

They were all really tall, their presence overwhelming in this small town.

People in this town had never seen such a scene or luxury car before, it was like a movie. Passersby, though curious, didn't dare to look straight, fearing trouble and hiding far away. Brett looked visibly paler these days, but his sharp aura remained strong.

It was summer, but Izabella felt like she was in the midst of a cold winter, especially with Brett's ice-cold expression and eyes. When his gaze fell on Izabella, it was like countless knives piercing her. Frightened, Izabella backed away, only to realize her path was completely blocked by him. With no other choice, she turned around and ran back upstairs.

Brett shouted, "Izabella, stop right there!"

Instead of stopping, she ran even faster. Brett stared at her fleeing figure, his gaze piercing through her.

Now that he was here, he wasn't worried about her escaping.

His canary bird had accidentally flown away, and Brett had spent over two months looking for her with no luck. On the 85th day, he finally located Izabella in a small county town.

Brett was always arrogant and proud. When she first escaped, he was anxious and scared, but confident in his ability to find her quickly. It turned out that Izabella seemed to have grown wings, disappearing into the crowds.

If it had been two years ago, Brett, faced with this situation, would have only thought of cruelty, wanting to break the legs of the runaway person. But now his fears and anxiety had drowned out any anger. During those 85 days since she left, would anything happen to her? Would her reaction slow down after her memory loss? Would she be cheated or bullied outside? What if her medicine ran out? What would she do when her stomach hurt? Could she take care of herself? Would she find out at the hospital that she actually had stomach cancer and hate him for life after regaining her memory?

There was also the baby in her belly - the sooner it was gone, the better. If it got too big, it would be more difficult to abort.

So he had to find Izabella as soon as possible.

Brett released some clues, including the two pieces of jewelry she had taken. Izabella wouldn't have taken them for no reason, she must have needed the money. The cash she took from the bank wouldn't be enough for rent and daily expenses.

In order to avoid him, she wouldn't dare to find a job, and her disabled hands wouldn't allow her to do much either. With no income, her money would be used up easily.

So she would definitely sell the jewelry. Anyone who saw those two items would know they were valuable, regardless if they were experts or not. Brett just had to gather this information.

Sure enough, he received several leads, eventually narrowing it down to an inconspicuous county city. Then, he found a female landlord and learned that Izabella was renting a house in this small town.

In a remote, out-of-the-way place like this, Brett never in a million years expected Izabella to be hiding here. Izabella had always been particular about her food and accommodations, insisting on the best even if her home was in ruins and her family gone.

It seemed that she had put a lot of thought into avoiding him.

This place indeed made it difficult for him to find her, with its confusing layout, and the fact that you didn't need an ID card to get things done. Izabella could easily make up a fake identity here, and people would buy it.

Brett opened his phone gallery and carefully went through Izabella's photos.

He had taken quite a few pictures of her, many of which were candid shots; photos of her reading, sleeping, daydreaming, and kissing her cat.

Brett examined each photo one by one. In the last few shots of them together, his expression seemed a bit stiff in front of the camera, while Izabella's smile was super sweet, her dimples seemingly filled with sweet honey.
