The sky was perfect and so is my 24th birthday. Everyone I love is here.

There were cotton candy pink and blue streamers garnishing the ceiling, an antique grandfather clock on the farthest corner of the living room, popcorn being popped in the microwave, and three laughing dorks of my life seated on our couch. Cake was inside the fridge waiting to be lit up and the chips that I held onto like my life depended on them was on top of the kitchen island, ready to be devoured by our ravenous stomachs.

I could not wait for this sleepover-slash-birthday party to start!

“Winter, why are you still in here?” a familiar voice broke through my bubble of thoughts. “Go to the living room. I’ll take it from here.”

“Chris, it’s okay. I can totally handle this.” Shifting my attention toward the microwave to see if the popcorn was done, but that did not last a minute, when I felt myself being hoisted into the air.

“Hey! Stop! Chris! Put. Me. Down!” I screamed, trying to break free from his grasp, but of course, failed. He just had to be stronger than me.

Damn you, testosterones! You just had to give him unwanted strength!

“No. I said I’ll take care of this, okay, Love?” he said before he kissed me gently on the cheek.

It’s no surprise that he has rendered me vulnerable to his touches. I never thought I could find a person like him in my lifetime. He was my everything He managed to pull me out of the kitchen in one swoop, left me on the couch, and kissed me on the cheek.

I normally wouldn’t be stunned by his actions but…

“He said, ’Love’.”
