Silence hung heavily in the air when he tore his eyes away from me and turned his back. It felt as if my heart was cracking into little pieces the moment he reached for the door.

Is this really it? In the end, I can’t save him after all?

I cling tightly to ends of his shirt, with tears flowing down my face like a waterfall, and spoke to him as if my life depended upon it (it did), hoping that my message could get through his thick walls.

“Please. Let me in.” I whispered, attempting to tug the loose threads of his heart.

“I can’t live in a world without you. Not when I’ve already fallen so deep.”
