Noticing Alex was about to return, Paige quickly lay on the bed and pretended to be asleep. She was

eager to discover Alex’s plans for tomorrow.

At 11:00 p.m., Caroline came home, utterly exhausted. She went upstairs, entered the bathroom, and

switched on the lights, revealing her messy hair, red and swollen eyes, and noticeable love bites on her

neck.

Caroline clenched her fists tightly, unable to shake off the memory of Evan’s brutal dominance. She

knew Evan would be furious about her meeting with Casey, but she never expected things to turn out

Caroline still lacked the evidence to prove her innocence and find the person who leaked Jamie’s past.

Suddenly, Kenny’s voice echoed through the house. “You’re home, G. When are you getting food. for

me?”

Caroline panicked and hastily grabbed a towel to cover her neck.

Kenny approached the bathroom door and exclaimed when he saw Caroline, “What’s happened to

you?”

Caroline looked at him in annoyance. “Speak softly. You’ll wake the children.”

“What’s going on with you?” Kenny observed Caroline with suspicion, his eyes widening in shock.” Did

Evan do something to you?”

“Kenny, stop talking! I’ll order food for you,” Caroline snapped.

Kenny continued to rage. “Damn it! I knew something was off when I found out you were with him! Did

he hurt you, or worse? I’m going to confront him!”

Caroline was troubled. “Please, keep quiet.”

Kenny said, “I can, but how can I ignore this? You’re in this state now. I can’t just let it go.”

share. But promise me you’ll protect yourself and stay away from that scumbag, okay? It’s a good thing

I’m the one who saw this tonight. The kids would be devastated if they witnessed it.”

Caroline looked down. “I know. Let’s order.”

“Sure, I’ll order while you take a shower. I’ll come get you when the food arrives.”

The next day, Paige deliberately left for work early and woke Alex before she headed out. “Pug, there’s

breakfast on the table. I’m off to work.”

Alex opened his eyes groggily and started to get up. I can give you a ride.”

“It’s alright; you should get more rest,” Paige replied as she grabbed her bag. “Goodbye.”

Alex said, “Drive safely. Text me if you want some food.”

Paige left the house and texted her friend who lived in the same area to swap cars. Her friend

quickly brought the car, and Paige handed over her car key.

Paige got into her friend’s car and waited for Alex to leave after her friend drove away with her car.
