To Be Yours Again novel (Jenny and Alex)
Chapter 653 Have You Thought About the Consequences?

Jolene refused to leave, for she knew what was waiting for her at home. However, she failed to free herself from Rowena's grip and had no choice but to be hauled home.

On their way home, Jolene cried in the car. "Mom, why did we have to leave? We should ask Uncle Wayne and Randy for help. They will help us out for sure."

Rowena was frustrated enough, and Jolene's incessant crying pushed her buttons. "Stop crying!"

Jolene was taken aback after being admonished. "Mom, even you're angry at me now?" She sobbed even louder.

Feeling helpless, Rowena pulled Jolene into a hug. "I'm not angry at you. I just think that we need to figure out a solution instead of crying uselessly. Did you seriously think Uncle Wayne and Randy would help us if we begged them to? You'd be naive to think so. They will not help because they won't get on your dad's bad side just for us. Got it? We are nothing to them." She decided to clear the air with Jolene to wake her daughter up to life's realities.

Jolene wasn't blind to the facts; she refused to accept reality. "Do I really have no option than to subject myself to fate?"

"Jo, marrying Brandon Britt isn't a bad choice." Rowena thought it over and decided to adopt a different mindset. Jolene's eyes widened in shock. "Mom..."

"Hear me out," Rowena cut her off. "The Walters are more powerful than the Britts. When you marry Brandon, you'll have a say in that family, and they will not bully you. If you are capable enough to hold power in the Britts, you will be the de facto matriarch of that house. Isn't that way better than having nothing as the second daughter of the Walters?"

The more Rowena thought through the new plan, the more she believed it was doable. Moreover, the Britts were just a little behind the Walters and might even surpass the Walters one day.

Jolene was quite tempted by her mother's idea. Now, the matriarch of the Britt Family, she'd be interested in that role. Still, she frowned in dissatisfaction. "If I could marry James Windsor, I'd be at a better starting point than marrying Brandon Britt. Isn't that much better?"

"That sounds great on paper, but does James even want to marry you?" After the dinner with James at Walter Castle, Rowena thought the possibility of Jolene marrying into the Windsors was nil. That guy was clearly interested in Jenny and was so close to expressing his disgust at Jolene. Anyway, she didn't want to hurt Jolene by stating the fact since she still cared about her daughter.

The mention of James sent Jolene into another crying fit. Under Rowena's glare, she sobbed quietly. "But I can't let it go. Can we think of another solution?"

"What else can we think of?" Rowena was out of ideas and believed that Jolene's marriage to Brandon wasn't a bad outcome. Most importantly, Brandon appeared to take a liking to Jolene, and their marriage would fare better than hers. "Jo, I know you want to aim higher, but have you thought about the consequences?" In a rare moment of honesty, Rowena laid bare her feelings to Jolene. "I had the same idea as you when I was younger. That's why I used all means to get married to your dad. But look at me. I never became the matriarch of the Walters, and he has never perceived me as a wife."

Rowena went on, "If you insist on marrying James Windsor, you might end up like me in the future. Can you accept that? On the other hand, if you marry Brandon Britt, you can rest assured that you will be held in high regard in that family. From how I see it, he's also interested in you. You'll be happier marrying him."
