To Be Yours Again novel (Jenny and Alex)
Chapter 644 I Won't Leave

Jenny instantly made a call to Alfred upon reading his texts. "So, are you going to compete?"

He was slightly surprised by her huge reaction. "Why? Are you scared that I'd leave?"

"You're overthinking. Look, you're talented but not irreplaceable," she denied, but deep down, she was worried that her company would lose him. Jeneration Group had newly gone on track, and Alfred's untimely departure would only cause her to suffer. Still, she wouldn't stop him from leaving if he wished to. Everyone had the freedom of choice, and she had no right to stop him.

Alfred smiled helplessly at her denial. "You're a stubborn one. Don't worry. I won't leave."

Somehow, she let out a sigh of relief, and she realized that she had overreacted just now. "I'm sorry. I was..."

"I know," he cut her off. "You don't have to explain to me. I'm only staying at Jeneration Group to prove my worth. No one can change my decision."

Despite not being in contact with the Fausts, he could imagine the complexity of the relationships in the influential family. If he wanted to contest the position of heir, he might subject himself to harassment and humiliation by others.

Alfred knew he couldn't put up with the stress, unlike Alec. He'd rather take it one step at a time. Therefore, he had nothing but admiration for Alec's patience and endurance, which he knew he lacked. "Yeah," she replied. As long as Alfred was around, she wouldn't have to worry about Jeneration Group, freeing up time for other priorities.

He fell into a short silence before blurting out, "Did you argue with Alec again?"

When she first requested that he look into the issues between Alec and the Fausts, he noticed her low mood but didn't bring up the question. He had turned in the results of his investigation, and Jenny probably was up to speed on Alec's life. Hence, he decided to prod her a bit.

"What could we possibly fight about? There's no relationship between us anyway." She chuckled. Technically, the only relationship between Alec and her was that of an ex-married couple. "Were you upset at him for returning to his family?" Alfred was confused by the developments between the two. The only change was Alec's return to the Fausts.

Jenny didn't answer, for she had no idea how to broach the topic.

It'd be awkward if he pressed on, so he said, "Jenny, you're a great woman. There are many who'd love you. You don't have to be sad over him."

"Thanks." She knew that it was his attempt at comforting her. Even though she had been prejudiced against him, she gradually came to realize he was a nice person-as a colleague.

After the call, she went through the information that Alfred sent her. The information included the latest updates in the Faust Family. Alec and a few other members were called to rejoin the family business, which led to infighting. That was how Alec got into serious trouble with some of the family members and put his life in danger. Alfred didn't describe how Alec survived the ordeal. Perhaps, he failed to obtain that piece of information.

Jenny recalled her encounter with Alec earlier. Something felt amiss-he was too cold to her, and his eyes were devoid of emotion.

"Has he never loved me? If not, why would he treat me that way?" The more she mulled over it, the sadder she felt. She had decided to accept his love when she met him again, regardless of what others would think and whether they had taken down the Glasses.

In the end, she realized that her feelings were one-sided and that Alec had never wanted to be with her in the first place.
