Chapter 612 What Is He So Nervous About?

Not long after, the car stopped at the entrance of the restaurant.

James and Jenny walked inside, and it was then that she noticed something was off. No one was in the restaurant, while melodious piano music played in the air. Even a fool could sense that something was not right.

She turned and looked at James. 'James, did you arrange all this?"

Jenny was not too sure. She thought that he wasn't the type to do something like it. On the other hand, only he was around.

James smiled and said nothing. He brought her into the restaurant, and they sat down at the table, which was already prepared.

Jenny was almost certain now that this was James' doing. But...what did he mean by all this?

James sat before her. A smile hung on his lips like usual, but upon closer inspection, Jenny realized he was nervous.

Nervous?

What was he so nervous about?

A million questions popped up in her head, but then James spoke, and Jenny understood everything.

"I actually have something to say to you, Jenny," James said. Anxiety flashed through his eyes.

Jenny said nothing, waiting for him to continue.

James steadied himself and grew serious. "Jenny, there's something that I've never told you. I..." James was obviously nervous. "I like you," he said after a long pause. He immediately felt better once those words were out.

Then, he looked at Jenny anxiously, a little afraid to meet her eyes. She hadn't spoken even after a while had passed. He finally looked up at her and realized that she was unusually calm. He couldn't see a trace of emotion on her face. "Jenny, I..."

James was about to say more, but then Jenny spoke. "Why do you like me, James?"

"Why?" James was a little stunned by the question. He didn't know how to answer. He scratched his head awkwardly like a child. "I can't really explain why. I just really like you. I miss you when I don't see you, and I'm happy when I do."

That was all there was to it. It wasn't much of a reason.

Jenny didn't think so. She looked at James apprehensively. "I've never heard you say that you like me. And I've never got the feeling that you liked me."

When they trained under Mr. Birkett, they spent a lot of time together and shared a close bond. But Jenny could see that James didn't like her in that way. They were simply seniors and juniors. So why was that changing now?

The only major change that had happened recently was her becoming the Walters' daughter. She didn't intend to read so much into it, but she had to.

"What do you mean, Jenny?" James' face darkened. He understood the meaning behind her words.

Jenny didn't mind elaborating. "James, you just like me because of my identity, don't you?"

"Do you think I'm only after the Walters' status?" It was as if James had heard a joke. He was a little angry.

"I'm not saying that you're after the Walters. It's just that in your heart, you think I'm only worthy of you because I'm the Walters' daughter. What if I wasn't their daughter right now? Would you like me?" She looked at him nonchalantly, clearly seeing through his motives.

She wasn't angry. She understood why James would do that. It was hard to find someone in their position whom they liked. Maybe James truly liked her, but not strongly. That would be why he had never told her that he liked her.

Things were different now. She was suddenly in the same league as him, and that was the reason for his sudden change.
