The Wallflower and the Alphas
Chapter 93 "Duke Conaway"

Elijah P.O.V.

"Hey, come on, sweetheart."

"We're take you home." I pulled her away from Jake, but she didn't want to let go of him at first. But when Jake grabbed hold of her arms and stepped back with sadness on his face.

I knew it was hard to let her go. I didn't want to be away from her. Especially now. I remember the rumor last year of her cutting. I didn't think it was true until I looked down; I could see faint lines on her wrist.

I picked her up, wrapped her arms around my neck, and walked out the door down the stairs and out of the front door. I walked towards my BMW's black and red tires. I love this car. I worked hard, and I paid for it myself.

I worked four summers and paid it off in just a year.

So I didn't know or care what I heard people say awful things about my 2009 BMW.

They can kiss my ass. So, I walked up to it, unlocked my door, and put her down, but she didn't let me go. So, I stood there with Avery in my arms, and she wasn't letting me go.

"I'll get in first and set her on my lap." I heard Jake say behind me.

So, I looked behind and at him, and we mind link.

"Okay, don't hurt her," I told him with a growl in my mind.

"I won't." Please give me her." She safe." I heard him say.

I hesitated for a second, and then I nodded my arm toward the front seat. I was telling him to get in and sit down. That was when I felt the air change, and so he walked past me, and that was when I felt him bump my arm. He quickly let out.

"I am sorry."

"I am sorry."

Then he quickly got in the passenger side and didn't even buckle his seat belt.

So, I knew he didn't care, but only for her. I agree with him on that. So, she was on everyone's mind. I am nervous about her staying by herself.

I hear the guys in the mind link saying we shouldn't leave her alone. That was when I had an idea. We can stay close and stand outside and watch her house if we can hear anything happening there.

We are in there so fast she won't know we were even there.

We should not let her stay by herself, guys." I heard Jake say, waiting for me to pass her over to him.

So, I stepped up and turned my body, stopped, looked down, and saw her face. I wanted to scream and hit my head on a brick wall. I wanted to feel pain for what I did to her.

What I saw broke my heart seeing her tear-stained face.

"I am such a sweetheart; I promise not to hurt you ever again," I whispered inside her ear, turning her face and kissing her lips gently.

I didn't want to let her go, but I looked over at Jake, and he had his arms hanging out the door. So I gave her a look and placed her in his lap, and she moaned because she still had her arms around my neck and didn't want to let go.

She whimpered and groaned when I took her arms around my neck, and Jake took her arms wrapped around his neck. First, he shifted his hips to ensure he had a tight grip around her waist. Then, he grabbed her head and gently laid it down on his chest.

"Shh, it's okay, princess; I got you."

Don't cry.

She was trying to talk, but it came out in mumbles.

"I ca-nt hel-p it.

I -ca-n't st-op cr-ying." She said in hick-ups.

"What you want to do?" I heard Andrew say with concern.

I think. I am afraid she will hurt or, worse, kill herself.

So, after carrying her up into her bedroom asleep in my arms.

The poor angel was rolled up in a ball on Jake's lap, and I drove. Avery cried so much she exhausted herself from crying.

FUCK! I wanted to hurt someone. I don't care if it was me. I don't deserve this beautiful angel. Jake got her wrapped in his arms. I can hear her crying and whining right beside me. I can feel her pain and hurt.

What happened to her that got her this way? I know we bullied her, but I didn't think we were this bad.

Really, man. What do you expect when you bully and say cruel words to her? She was not going to smile with open arms, dude. Instead, I heard my inner voice say with a sarcastic attitude.

No wonder she was afraid of the guys and me. We are monsters.

No, we are worse than monsters; we are evil, sinister monsters.

I need a smoke. I thought to myself. I am outside her house. I am the first watch, so the other guys are home asleep.

I must call Jake. He is the next on watch, then Andrew and Matthew. So, I volunteer first and am out here watching her sleep.

When we were little, our dad's built her treehouse for us to play princesses and kingdoms. I have a smile on my face from when we were little. I remember her blonde curls and pink dresses and little tiara on her head.

I remember her smile when I started liking her, like in crush. I knew deep down in my heart she was going to be mine.

But I had to fuck it all up when I started bullying her. I would always treat her like shit.

I would trip her when she was walking every chance I got.

I would pull her down and knock her books out of her hand.

I sighed and thought about what asshole I had been to her.

She never did anything to me. I need a smoke. I am not smoked for a while.

I grabbed the secret cigarette I had hidden inside my BMW.

I got it out earlier. I didn't know I would need it, so I took it out, and now it's in my pocket.

Now I got it out, stuck it between my fingers, and stared at it.

Should I put it in my mouth and smoke it? I am still thinking about whether I should smoke or not.

I was about to stick it between my lips and light the cigarette. That was when I heard a scream. I drop the cigarette, and I stop to listen. That was when I heard it again. It's coming from Avery's room.

"Don't worry; I am coming, sweetheart," I whispered.

I opened her window and climbed in, and I looked up and saw a black shadow lending over Avery; she was up in bed staring at this frightening dark shadow.

She was shaking, and I could see the fear in her eyes. And this black shadow creature was trying to grab her.

I look very closely; who is the shadow creature? It is Duke Conaway standing in Avery's bedroom.

Why is he here? Why is the vampire prince in my mate's room? I was going to step up toward him and demand why is he in my mate's room.

I heard a growl, and I looked behind me. I saw Jake, Andrew, and Matthew behind me; they had furious expression on their face, and they were ready to kill whoever tried to hurt our mate.

I open my mouth. I was going to talk, but Avery beat me to it.

"Why-you, doing here, Duke?" She demands in her little voice.

Oh, so she knows him, huh? But now I see why she was afraid of him. His eyes are bright, bloodshed red.
