Crap!

Cody stood frozen in the room, his forehead beading with sweat as his chest thudded in

terror.

Was Ambrose not drinking in the main hall? Why had he returned all of a sudden? If he

were to catch Cody, there was no way he would see the light of day again.

Cody was nothing but helpless. He scanned the room in search of Ambrose's belongings

for traces of hair after cutting off the baby's lanugo hair, only for Ambrose to return in

time.

Creak!

Just as Cody was terrified, the room was pushed open as Ambrose strode in with Heather

behind him.

Ambrose's gaze was sharp as a bolt of lightning as it landed on Cody instantly. He stopped

short. "Cody Lange? Is that you?"

Ambrose knew Cody as Veron's personal bodyguard back when she had followed Ambrose

around persistently; thus, he recognized Cody immediately.

Seeing as there was no way out, Cody forced a pained smile as he greeted Ambrose.

"Sect... Sect Master Ambrose.”

As he spoke, he could barely hold himself upright from his nervousness.

Ambrose frowned. "What are you doing here?"

As he spoke, he looked around him. The man was Veron's personal bodyguard, and he had

snuck into Heather's room in the middle of the night. Something was off for sure.

Heather rushed to the crib out of worry for the baby. Seeing as the baby was still sleeping

peacefully, she instantly heaved a sigh of relief.

The next second, Heather returned to her senses as she asked Cody, "What are you doing

in my room?"

Under their questioning, Cody trembled as his lips paled, unable to answer all at once.

He could never tell the truth, or he would die in a heartbeat.

"Out with it!"

Seeing as he was still stuttering and unable to say a word, Ambrose lost his patience as he

shouted, "This is the main altar of the Hidden Hero Sect. If I hand you over to them for

breaking in, we both know what's going to happen to you."

As the final word rang through the air, Cody's legs wobbled as he fell into a kneeling

position on the ground and said in a terrified voice, "Please don't get angry, Sect Master

Ambrose. It's like this... My... My High Lady sent me to kidnap the baby out of pure

resentment.’

Despite being a mere bodyguard, Cody was quite a witty guy. However, he knew that if he

were to tell them the truth, his High Lady's plans would be all for nothing, and she would

never forgive him.

Besides, Ambrose was not an easy person to deal with either. Under a circumstance like

that, all he could do was make up an excuse Ambrose would believe without exposing his

High Lady's true plan.

Kidnap the baby?

Ambrose and Heather exchanged a glance in both shock and fury.

The next second, Ambrose's expression darkened. "Kidnap the baby for what?”

Sensing Ambrose's strong aura, Cody could not help but gulp as he said in a careful tone,

"The High Lady wanted to do this out of standing up for herself. You cut her off for the Sea

Mackie Clan princess, and it angered her greatly. Thus, she had me come here to kidnap

your baby so you wouldn't find it and to teach you a lesson."

Cody shook his head repeatedly as he spoke, plastering on a pitiful expression. "I was only

acting on my High Lady’s orders. Sect Master Ambrose, please forgive me..."

Ridiculous!

At Cody's plea, Ambrose knitted his brows together as he flared up in anger and said

coldly, "Veron's out of her mind. What does anything between the both of us have to do

with the child?"

The High Lady of the Lange family had really gone too far.

Ambrose had completely believed Cody's words at that point, thinking that it made perfect

sense for Veron to do something like it, judging from her demeanor. However, he would

have never guessed that he had completely been fooled by Cody.

Sigh.

Heather sighed from the side as she said to Ambrose, "It's all my fault. If it hadn't been for

me, things with Veron wouldn't be like this."
