Chapter 47 - Scheming

"Good morning, Alfie," I greeted the male as I approached him. He turned his head and looked up at me with a wide grin. I had missed him.

Alfie pulled me into a tight hug. He held me close for a few moments before he pulled away and grinned some more. I offered him a smile also.

"Ali, so glad that you're back. It gets a little boring around here without your constant complaining,” Alfie teased as I walked with him. I chuckled a little and rolled my eyes.

"Well you won't have to put up with me for much longer, since this snow doesn't look like it's going anywhere anytime soon," I huffed out. I was bitter about the snow. I wanted to train and I wanted to get better, but I knew this winter was going to be a long one.

"Very true, kiddo. Where are you off to? There's going to be a storm tonight, I think," Alfie asked me. I smiled up at him and motioned towards Lila's cabin.

"Lila, Brayleigh, Cass and I are having a girls day,” I told him. Alfie snorted at me. He shook his head and I giggled. Alfie was often blunt with people and it sometimes looked like he hated everyone. But Alfie was in fact very caring. He seemed very fond of Brayleigh, but I was sure that was because of the fact that she was his son's mate. He liked Lila, I knew that. But everyone liked Lila.

He seemed to enjoy my company too. Despite his constant complaining about my complaining, he still liked to joke and mess around with me. He was a good wolf and I respected him a lot.

"Right. No boys involved, are there?" Alfie questioned me. I shook my head at him even though I wished there were. Liam was busy all of the day before because Henry had him swamped with work the moment he came back from the trip.

I was angry that Henry was keeping Liam cooped up in his office. Why was he being such an ass? Liam had just returned from a trip, could Henry not give him a break? A day to style in would've been nice.

"No boys, Alfie. Kade is too big a baby to get out of bed and walk into the cold, Leon and Lucas are fast asleep and Henry is keeping Liam busy with paperwork and lord knows what," I muttered to him. Alfie chuckled as he slung an arm over my shoulders while we walked. I smiled at his action. "But you're definitely walking in the direction of Liam's office right now," Alfie told me as we stepped into the pack house. My cheeks blushed red as I was guilty. I just wanted to see Liam this morning to see how he was going.

"I'm checking up on him. He was in a shitty mood all of yesterday and I just want to see how he's going now," I said to Alfie. He winked at me and I rolled my eyes as we walked up the stairs together.

"What are you up to on this fine morning?" I asked Alfie. He sighed and showed me a handful of paperwork.

"Henry wanted security checks done. Liam isn't the only being swamped with paperwork right now,” Alfie said with an irritated huff. I laughed at him and rolled my eyes.

"Sounds super fun," I said sarcastically. He nodded in agreement and rolled his eyes. We came up to the hallway where Liam and Henry's office were.

"Have fun with your little boyfriend. Try not to interrupt his work too much," Alfie told me with a cheeky grin. I rolled my eyes at him and looked away to hide my blush. He continued down the hallway and I stopped in front of Liam's office.

I knocked on the door and then pushed it open. I peeked inside, my stomach dropping a little when I saw Veronica sitting on Liam's desk, right next to him while he was doing work.

They weren't touching, which would explain why I didn't know that she was there, but it didn't make me feel any better. She was still in the office probably for the same reason I was.

"Hi," 1 said, trying not to sound upset. Liam and Veronica both turned to look at me. Liam smiled weakly and then his eyes shifted to Veronica.

Seeing her with him made me think about what Liam told me on our trip. They used to do all the stuff that Liam and I did. His hands had been on her body before, and hers had been all over his. It made me feel sick.

"Hello," Veronica said, looking at me curiously. She looked annoyed that I was there and I wanted to punch her right in her face.

"What's up?" Liam said, pushing back his chair. He looked confused as to what he should do. Get up to come and greet me or stay seated next to Veronica.

The bond simmered between us, but it wasn't strong. Veronica was weakening it by being in the room. I wanted to strangle her.

"Well I just wanted to come see how you were going. I didn't see you all of yesterday so I assumed you must've been pretty swamped in here,” I told him. I took a step forwards and looked at all the paperwork. There was a lot.

"Yeah we got through heaps yesterday, didn't we, Liam? It took the whole day but we both knuckled down and got about half of it finished together,” Veronica said, knowing it would piss me off. It did It pissed me off a lot.

The day before Liam had told me not to go and see him because he was too busy.

I knew now that he meant he was busy with Veronica

"Sounds fun," I said bluntly. Veronica giggled and nudged Liam. We both burned.

“Liam had almost pulled out his hair by the time we decided to give it up for the night. It was entertaining to watch,” Veronica giggled as she teased Liam. I knew that I had to act fast if I wanted to tear her throat out.

"Hmm," I mumbled, looking down at Liam. I felt hurt that he had lied to me. He told me he was too busy and didn't want to get distracted.

But he was already being accompanied by Veronica. He blew me off for her.

Ouch.

"Well, I'm having a little girl's day with Lila and the others. If you need me, I'll be with them," I said before I spun around on my heel and left the room. I slammed the door shut hard behind me so Liam would know that I was upset.

My arm burned and I rolled my eyes. He was still letting her do whatever she wanted. He wasn't telling her no. It was like he was scared to say no to her. I would say no to her a million times and then punch her hard in the throat.

I stormed out the house and towards Lila's cabin. I had to tell the girls about it. They would be just as pissed, and they'd probably try to help solve my issues by giving me alcohol.

I didn't mind the idea of getting drunk. It sounded good.

I walked into the cabin and shut the door behind me. I heard the girls talking from the living room "You won't believe what just freaking happened to me!" I hissed out as soon as I walked into the room. The three girls looked up at me and frowned.

"What did he do this time?" Brayleigh asked me. I shook my head and rubbed my forehead. I was beyond irritated.

"Lied to me. He told me not to see him yesterday because he was too busy. Little did I know, that when I walked in there five minutes ago, Veronica and him had been together in that office all day. She was telling me all about how much fun they had doing fucking paperwork!" I hissed out, crossing my arms. I was beyond angry that Liam had lied to me.

If he had told me he was doing work with Veronica, I still would have been cautious about it, but I would have respected him enough to stay away while he was working. The fact that he lied about it made the situation even worse.

I hoped he knew that I was pissed at him.

"Jesus Christ. That boy and his damn tag along! She needs a good ass beating to get her head around the right way," Lila growled out as she shook her head. Cass sighed and rolled her eyes. "You know, it is kind of suspicious that Henry does nothing about this too. He knows that Veronica has a thing for Liam and he damn well knows that she bothers him like crazy. You would think that he'd respect a mate bond and tell Veronica to back off... don't you think?" Brayleigh piped up. I nodded at her as I stomped over to the couch and sat down.

Cass put her arm around my shoulder and pulled me into a comforting hug. It helped, but only a little.

"It's not right... everyone knows that if a male has a true mate, you leave them the hell alone,” I said, making the girls nod. Cass let out a low growl.

"I would go ballistic if any female ever went for my Leon. They'd have no head after I was done with them," Cass said, making Lila grin. I knew what she was thinking before she even said it.

"Maybe you should challenge Veronica to a fight. I'd have front row seats to that," Lila suggested, beaming. I shook my head at her.

I loved the idea of fighting Veronica. My beast wanted to tear her ass apart. But I also knew too well that Veronica would be protected by her father. He'd never allow for the two of us to fight.

But Alfie might just as well...

"Veronica is too protected. She's got her daddy and her little sidekicks on her side. Not to mention, Anthony would probably protect her too," I said, shaking my head. That girl had too many people protecting her. She'd be useless if she was ever on her own.

"True. But we can't just let her get away with it. You can't just let her walk all over Liam like that," Brayleigh said shaking her head. I nodded in agreement and sighed.

Truthfully, it all came down to Liam. I couldn't do anything to stop Veronica. It was Liam who had to do something. He had to tell her to back off.

I felt a pang of hurt in my chest.

Why wouldn't Liam tell her off? Why was it so hard for him to say no to her? Did he not respect me enough to turn her away? Did he still have feelings for her that he wasn't telling me about?

I sighed and shook my head. I was confused.

"Liam has to be the one to say something. She wouldn't listen to me. He's the one she's obsessed with and the one she'll listen to,” I said. The girls all groaned at me.

"Liam clearly has some problem with that girl because for as long as I can remember, he's been like her little slave. If she says something, he jumps to do it," Cass growled out lowly. I leaned into her a little more to try and calm her down. The girls were all getting worked up.

They were close with me. They understood what I had been through in previous times and they knew what it meant to me for Liam to do what he was doing. They were angry when I was angry.

I was the same for them.

"I think its truthfully just the whole thing he has with Henry. He respects that bastard too damn much and if Liam upsets Veronica, I'm sure that Veronica would run straight to her father about it," Lila sighed out. I nodded in agreement.

There was something about Henry that made me so on edge. The way he affected Liam and the way he was in general.

"Why does Liam respect him so much anyway? Surely he knows that Henry took his throne from him," I asked. The girls all exchanged looks and shrugged.

"Personally, I think it's because Liam thinks Henry is some sort of hero. He thinks Henry saved the pack. He's like a God to Liam," Lila replied. I nodded my head. I understood what she meant, but I didn't agree with it.

How could Liam be so blind?

"Come on. Let's not all get down about this. They're playing a Friends marathon on t.v today. It's supposed to be a good day, remember?" Cass said. I smiled and nodded at her. I pushed my issues to the side as the channel was changed.

But I was still deeply bothered by what Liam had done.
