Chapter 14 - What To Do

The phone rang loudly throughout the cabin. Ezra and Jenny were finishing off the cooking in the kitchen whilst I was getting dressed. We were having guests come over any moment and I was barely ready. My time management skills weren't the best.

I zipped up my dress and sighed. I fluffed up my hair one last time and left my room. I walked down the hallway and met Ezra halfway.

"It's Beckett, for you," Ezra said, winking at me. He wanted me to talk to Beckett about staying. I smiled and nodded as I took the phone. Ezra turned around and left and I headed back to my room. "Hello?" I called into the phone. I didn't hear any background voices and assumed that Beckett was alone.

"Hey little sister,” he greeted me. I smiled warmly and sat on the bed. I crossed my legs.

"What's up?" I asked him. I heard him hum a little and then imagined him smiling and shrugging. "Well you're supposed to be coming home in a few days and I was wondering if you had figured out what you wanted to do," Beckett replied quickly. I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders. Beckett was clearly thinking that I wasn't coming back.

This would make it easier to talk to him.

"Beckett, I'm really torn on what to do here. I don't know if I should stay here or come back," I told him with a deep sigh. I imagined him nodding.

"Tell me all your options," He then said. I nodded and leaned back in my bed, staring up at the ceiling.

"Well first, I could come back and fill in as Beta female when you take over as Alpha until Samaya found his mate. Second, I could come back and never leave my bedroom again. Third, I could stay here in Takiani. Or... I could ask Uncle about possibly letting me join his pack up in the falls,” I explained to Beckett. He was silent for a moment.

Beckett was a good wolf. He thought hard about everything and we was a good problem solver. He cared for everyone and was kind to anyone he came across. He was going to make a great Alpha and I think everyone knew it.

"That's tough, Ali. But it's up to you. You're the only one who can make this decision. You have to think about where you're going to be happy the most. I personally don't want you coming back here at all, not whilst Brennon is still the Beta," Beckett told me quickly. His growl was low in his throat at the end of his words and I sighed.

I understood what he meant. I knew I had to make this decision by myself, but it was hard. It was so hard because I truly had no idea what to do.

But if Beckett didn't want me to come back, maybe I shouldn't?

I sighed deeply and rubbed my forehead. "I like it here, Beck. But what if I would like it more in the falls with the family?"

Beckett was silent yet again. I could tell that he was confused too. It made it irritated and bothered. I hoped that he would know exactly what to do. But he didn't and that was okay too. I had to make this decision for myself by Friday.

It was Wednesday.

I shuddered and my wolf sighed as she sat down and moped. I felt like rolling over and sleeping. "When the day comes, I think you'll know what to do," Beckett told me softly. I nodded and sighed again as I sat up.

He was right. I was sure I'd know what to do when the day came. But I wouldn't stop thinking about it.

"You're right... I gotta go now. I'll talk to you later,” I told him as I stood up from my bed.

"Love you, little sister,” Becket said and hung up.

I walked out my room and down the hallway. Our guests had finally arrived and I forced a grin as I put the phone on the counter and greeted everyone.

Alfie introduced me to his mate, Zelda. She was a tall and slim brunette. My beast liked her immediately and we felt comfortable with her around.

Of course, Lila and Brayleigh came too. They sat with me at the table and we all talked whilst the adults spoke. Kade sat close with Brayleigh, his arm around her shoulders, playing with her hair whilst we all spoke.

My beast growled sadly. We both longed for someone to love us like that. But we both knew we weren't ready. We weren't ready for a mate whatsoever. We had just come from a traumatic situation in our old pack and we weren't ready to just forgot about it and let some mate put his mark on our neck.

When we meet our mate, we were going to make him work for it. We weren't going to let him have our neck instantly. He would have to show us a lot more than love at first sight.

"I can't believe you kicked Kade's ass today. I'm so proud of you, princess,” Ezra said as he walked over to me and kissed my hair. I smiled warmly at him and Kade playfully growled. Brayleigh rumbled as her male's playfulness and he tightened his grip on her, making her smile more.

"She didn't kick my ass. The mud was slippery and I fell. She jumped on me before I could get back up!" Kade lies, winking at me. I rolled my eyes at him. He was such a liar!

"Yeah right, son. She had you in the dirt more than you had her," Alfie taunted. Zelda giggled lightly and slipped her hand into Alfie's.

"Did not! I slipped," Kade argued again. I heard Jenny's lighter from the kitchen and looked up. She was shaking her head as she laughed.

I really liked Jenny. She was a wonderful female and I knew that she would be good for me to be around. It made me think.

If we stayed, would I stay here with her and Ezra? Would they both continue to support me?

Who was I kidding? Of course they would!

Ezra had been my biggest supporter since the beginning. Jenny had been in my life for only a few days and she had already been a great help too. She was wonderful. They both were.

"I can't wait for Lucas and Leon to get back, truly. If they get back in time, they'd definitely spar with you. It'll be so funny to watch you kick their asses," Lila piped up. Alfie nodded eagerly.

"For sure! I think you'd put a real beating on Lucas. His head is way too far up his ass,” Alfie agreed with Lila. My beast swirled with pride, a feeling that we were both getting used to. We liked that all these wolves thought highly of us.

The fact that when we first came to Takiani, we were weak and barely an Alpha, compared to where my beast and I are so powerful that people are cautious around us is insane. I sometimes sat awake at night thinking about all of it.

I worked so hard for everything that I had and I wasn't going to be so quick to let it slip away from me. Even if I decided to return back to Terialta, I was going to train ten times harder to be better. I made it a goal that wherever I ended up, I wasn't going to let myself slip back into weakness.

I had a feeling that I wasn't going to decide on staying at Terialta forever. My beast was terribly emotional about even thinking to returning to Terialta. I wasn't sure how long I would last there. One thing I knew was that no matter where I went, I would come back to Takiani to visit eventually. I knew I would miss everyone.

"No offence, but Liam would totally beat your ass. There aren't many people that he can't beat. He's a good fighter,” Kade said, making my wolf anxious. She wanted to meet Lila's brothers. Every time someone spoke of them, they made them sound like gods.

I wanted to meet these powerful wolves. I wanted to see how their blood hummed and I wanted to know what I had to work my way up to.

I really wanted them to return before I had to leave Takiani.

The rest of the night was fun. We all sat at the table and we ate. Everyone drank so much that Lila and Brayleigh were quite drunk. After dinner, we decided to play poker. I was somewhat good at it, and almost won most the rounds.

When it came time for everyone to leave, my beast was sad to see them go. She knew that the night was practically a goodbye party. I was sure everyone knew I was going to leave Takiani. I was pretty sure that I was going to leave too. I had duties and responsibilities to fill. I couldn't stay. I knew that. But something told me I had to stay. Something pulled in the back of my mind. It told me to stay, not to leave ever again. It scratched at my brain.

It was irritating and hard to ignore. I just decided not to notice it.

"Listen, Alison. I —love you. You're the best thing ever and I would totally like... quit drinking wine for you,” Lila slurred drunkly as she got to the front door. I giggled at her as she threw her arms around me and hugged me tightly.

"I love you too, Lila," I told her as she pulled away. She then narrowed her eyes at Ezra and pointed her finger at him

"Take care of her," she slurred some more. She swayed as she stood and I laughed at this. She was a funny drunk.

"I will. Go on, Kade is waiting to help you home," Ezra rushed Lila out the door. I watched her walk down the steps and then Kade motion for her to follow him.

"That girl..." Ezra trailed off as he shut the door. He locked it and chuckled. I giggled back and followed him into the kitchen.

It was late and I knew it was time to sleep, but I felt on edge. I had a feeling that the nightmares were going to come again that night. I didn't want to risk facing them. But I had a big day tomorrow and I couldn't just not go to sleep.

"I think it's time for me to sleep now. Goodnight darling," Jenny yawned as she walked towards me. I smiled at her and let her engulf me in a tight hug. She kissed my temple and then pulled away and headed to her bedroom.

Ezra hugged me goodnight next and then followed Jenny down to their bedroom. I heard their muffled voices and I sighed as I slumped against the wall.

My head was filled with a million different thoughts. They all buzzed through my mind insanely fast. They bounced off the walls of my brain and left me feeling more and more confused.

I didn't know what to do. It was like I was walking in a circle. It never ended and it didn't help me at all.

"Hey little sis, why you awake for?" Rae's voice popped into my mind. I raised my eyebrows as I pushed myself off the wall. I turned off the kitchen light and headed to my room. I had to stop making excuses.

"The nightmares come every night. I try to avoid them," I told him honestly. Rae used to get nightmares when he was my age, after our mother died. I didn't know if she still got them, but I remember how badly they got to him. They drained him.

"You still get those? I thought they went away..." Rae asked me. I sighed out loud and shut my bedroom door behind me. I kicked off my shoes and slipped off my dress. I changed into my pyjamas and crawled into bed.

"Yah, they did for a while. Came back after the incident,” I replied. I imagined my brother sighing and I pulled up the covers to my chin as I rolled over. I shut my eyes.

"Well, call me if you need me. Try and get some rest," Rae said, and I went to reply but I was already drifting off to sleep.
