Allie’s heat lasted about 24 hours. And it was the most exhausting and incredible 24 hours I have ever experienced. The mate bond was at its strongest and I had never felt more powerful. Thankfully she came out of heat just in time for the Alpha and Luna ceremony and, before I knew it, the day was upon us. The excitement I felt was unreal, everything in my life had led to this moment and now I could successfully take over the pack with my Luna by my side. Since I turned 18, I had wanted to take over the pack, I felt ready then. Now that it was about to happen, I felt my life was complete, and that I could handle anything fate throws at us. I had Allie by my side and the whole pack looking up to me. 

The ceremony was taking place at the pack house, flanked by the forest. The courtyard had been transformed into a glittering stage with colourful flower backdrops hanging from the trees. Fairy lights were woven around almost everything, creating a warm glow blanketing the courtyard. The kitchen staff had done an excellent job preparing a feast for the party that followed the ceremony. Everyone was in good spirits, and it was a welcome relief and distraction from recent events. 

The investigation had stalled somewhat, and the warriors were still unable to find Lucien’s base. The rogues were all recovered now but were still being kept secure in the dungeons. We were looking into each of them, which is taking time, trying to find out who they are and where they had come from. Lucien and his dark witch had done an excellent job of preventing any useful information escaping from the captured rogues, using dark magic to not only control the rogues, but blocking any memories that might have revealed the location of their hideout. They can recall their actions but said they had no control over their wolf or body. Largely they were kept as prisoners by Lucien, and it was unfortunate that we had also imprisoned them. But the safety of the pack was paramount and so it was necessary. 

Tomorrow, once the ceremony was completed, I intended to give the search for Lucien my full attention. 

The ceremony was about to start. Allie looked nervous, chewing on her bottom lip and fidgeting with her hands. We had spent the morning training and, well…...she had kicked my butt! And after lunch, Kayla had come to the pack house to help Allie and Penny get ready. I don’t know how she did it, but she actually convinced Allie to wear a dress. When she appeared in the courtyard in a pale silver floor length dress, she looked stunning. I lost my breath and all rational thought left me. The dress had a long slit down each leg and the delicate fabric clung to her glorious curves. Glittering silver heels completed the look. She looked sexy as hell, and several x-rated activities flashed through my mind. But we had important things to do, so that would have to wait. Kayla had styled Allie’s hair and it bounced around her face in soft waves trailing down her back. Her make-up was light and subtle, but somehow gave her a maturity that suited her.

My dad announced the start of the ceremony, earning a loud cheer from the crowd, and we were called up on to the stage. Since we had marked each other, the mate bond was stronger than ever. I took Allie’s hand in mine and let the sparks of the mate bond calm us both. Up on the stage, my parents greeted the crowd. 

Cheers erupted throughout the courtyard and once they had died down, he and Mom formally stepped down as Alpha and Luna. Allie and I each had to recite the pledge of our pack, making our promise to serve the pack and protect everyone in it. The pledge had to be accepted by the entire pack. The full moon was high in the sky, shedding its silver glow on to the courtyard and as we recited our pledge, the pack howled to the Moon Goddess to signify their acceptance of their new Alpha and Luna. And that was it! I wish I could say it was a more complicated affair, but it really was as simple as that. Now, we party! 

The music started and Allie and I were congratulated by my parents, and they went to start off the traditional pack run for those who wanted to join. My dad’s Beta, Glen, and his family congratulated us too and joined the run. All the old, ranked wolves lined up to congratulate us and then headed to join the run. It was some time before I was able to check in with Allie to see how she was doing. 

“How are you feeling, sweetie?” I asked, as I led her to a quiet spot shaded by a canopy of golden fairy lights. A love seat sat in the corner, and I motioned for Allie to join me there. Her face was glowing with joy. I had never seen her looking so happy. Her lilac eyes were glittering, and her skin was radiant.

“Oh, I feel wonderful,” she said, honestly, “This feels right. It’s weird but it feels like this is what I was always meant to do!” 

“The Moon Goddess chose you as Luna for a reason” I told her. I leaned in and kissed her full lips, the sparks of the mate bond dancing across my lips. We kissed until we were breathless, our tongues dancing a tango. She climbed into my lap, straddling me, the long fabric of her dress falling either side of me exposing her toned legs. Both my hands went to her knees, and I ran them up her thighs, slipping underneath the fine skirt of her dress, squeezing her butt and pulling her closer to me. I nipped at her mark, intensifying the sparks, and she threw her head back as a low moan escaped her lips. 

We were close to the edge of the forest. It was the perfect cover we needed, so I stood up still holding her by her butt and strode towards the trees. I found a secluded spot and quickly laid her down on the soft grass of the forest floor. She expertly unbuckled me and ran her hands over my length greedily. I bunched up her dress as carefully as I could and pushed it out of the way and tugged at her white thong. The flimsy fabric ripped to pieces, and she was already pulling me down on top of her. She was wet and ready for me, the scent of her arousal causing Maddox to howl in my head. I thrust inside her in one fluid movement, and she moaned in relief. The intensity of the mate bond was overwhelming. I pumped into her hard and fast and felt her orgasm building. When we were both on the verge of climaxing, one last thrust and I was seeing stars as I shot my load inside her. I collapsed on top of her, breathing in her intoxicating scent, nuzzling her neck.

“We have to get back to the party,” I groaned.

“Do we have to?” she whined, “We are the Alpha and Luna after all.” 

I chuckled. “I know, sweetie. But we really do,” I said. A sense of duty called us back to the party, but both of us just wanted to relax in each other’s arms. I buckled up my pants and retrieved the ruined thong, stuffing it in my pocket. Classy, I know! I helped Allie to her feet, and she smoothed out her dress with her hands and ran them through her hair to check it was still in place. I brushed off my pants and tucked in my shirt and we walked back to the party. I was pleased to see everyone having a good time, hopefully we weren’t missed too much. People were singing and dancing and the food looks delicious. 

Brad spotted me from across the courtyard and headed towards us. Penny was by his side. From a distance, I thought he had brought someone else to the party. Penny was unrecognisable. It seems Kayla had worked her magic with Penny too, for the transformation was utterly surprising. Her hair was styled on top of her head, showcasing her face and she was wearing a dark blue dress with a matching silk shawl covering her shoulders. It was a simple design of dress but somehow it concealed perfectly just how painfully thin she actually was. Kayla had gone to town on her make-up which made her look incredibly striking without being over the top, and Brad had spent most of the night warning off un-mated males. Despite that, he looked proud just to be able to call her his, but it was obvious that she was still adjusting to her new life. She looked uncertain and slightly uncomfortable, but she was still here, holding Brad’s hand nervously. 

“Hey,” he said, “where were you guys?” Seems we were missed. 

“Busy” I said, shooting him a look. He nodded. 

“Let’s get a drink to celebrate,” he suggested. Allie was already in deep conversation with Penny, so Brad and I left the ladies and headed for the bar. We ordered a beer each and picked up a couple of flutes of champagne for the girls. 

“So, how’s things going with Penny?" I asked. I’d noticed that they hadn’t marked each other yet so wanted to check in and see how they were both doing. He was the new Beta of our pack now and I needed him to be on top form. 

“It’s going….” He paused, “slowly” His expression was pained. 

“Have you mated yet?” I asked. It was important to seal their bond soon, not only because Brad was a ranked werewolf, but also because Penny wouldn’t be truly safe until she was officially part of the pack. Sealing their bond would achieve that. 

“No,” he said with a sigh, “It’s complicated. We are still working through some stuff. I think she wants to stay with me, but things are still a little edgy. It took me two days of begging for her to come tonight!”

“Listen, man. She told us what happened to her at her old pack,” I said.

“I know, she told me,” He said, “I’m seriously out of my depth here, man. I don’t know what to do. What do I do?” He seemed genuinely troubled. I felt for him. He was the original ladies’ man and now he was struggling to figure out how to solve this one.

“I guess you have to go at her pace and not rush her. Why don’t you take her out on a date?” I suggested.

“Yeah,” he sighed, defeated. “I’ll try that. She deserves to have some fun. She’s been through fucking hell. I swear, man, if I ever get my hands on that shithead Beta who hurt her, I’m going to rip him to shreds.” 

“And Allie and I will be right there with you, brother,” I said, slapping him on the back, “Hang in there.”

“How is she recovering physically?” I asked him.

“She’s still pretty thin, but her wolf is getting stronger. She thinks she will be strong enough to shift in the next few days,” he told me.

“She should probably start some training too. I’ll ask Allie if she will train her,” I said, “But don’t rush it. She needs time to heal fully.”

“Good idea,” he agreed, “she spends most of her day in her room, and I don’t think she has ever done any training before.”

We finished our beers and hung out while the girls were talking. “We need to up the ante finding this asshole,” I told Brad.

“Agreed. Do we need to start looking further afield?” he asked.

“It’s a possibility. Let’s discuss the plan on Monday,” I said. Tonight was for celebrating the start of a new era in our pack history. We re-joined Allie and Penny. Allie pulled me onto the dance floor, and we danced for a while. I left her to go to the bathroom. On my way back to her, a familiar overpowering scent filled my nostrils.

“Hi, baby,” her sickly-sweet voice cooed at me. Mikayla. She came up behind me and stroked her hand down my upper arm.

“Get lost, Mikayla,” I ordered. 

“Come on, Reece. You can’t keep denying this heat between us!” she purred, moving around me and pushing her breasts up against me. 

“Enough,” I told her, “Enough of your bullshit!”

Undeterred she tried to wrap her arms around my waist. I pushed her away. Now I was mad!

“You’re not disrespecting your Alpha, are you?” I said using my Alpha tone. She backed away in submission, whimpering.

“This is your final warning, Mikayla. Stay away from me. I don’t want you. Allie is my Luna and always will be,” I shouted at her, and stormed away, my blood boiling.

I joined Allie again but could see Mikayla slinking around the courtyard watching me. I decided to just ignore her and enjoy the night and luckily the rest of the evening passed by without a hitch. By the end of the night, we were all exhausted. It felt as if every single member of the pack had congratulated us, and the night was a screaming success. Penny in particular looked as if she would fall down if she walked another step. Brad picked up on it quickly and scooped her up into his arms. He took her by surprise and at first, she was awkwardly rigid in his arms, flailing her legs about. But after a few seconds, I saw her relax into him and her limbs became limp in his arms. She laid her head on his chest and smiled as I watched them walk to her guest room. I had a feeling that things would work out fine for my Beta and his mate.

Allie was equally exhausted, so I followed suit and lifted her gently into my arms, sweeping my arms under her legs and cradling her to my chest. By the time I reached our room, she was sound asleep. I laid her down and carefully removed her shoes and unzipped her dress, slinking it down her body, trying desperately not to wake her. I covered her with a blanket and heard her breathing softly and evenly. I discarded my suit jacket and the rest of my clothes and climbed in with her. 

As I lay there replaying the night, I couldn’t help thinking how incredible she was. Apart from my run in with the ever-persistent Mikayla, it was a fantastic night, and everyone had a good time. She had handled everything tonight with bravery and maturity. Her behaviour was perfect for a Luna, and I had absolutely no doubt that she would be a strong and dependable leader to our pack. Not being able to find Lucien’s hideout was starting to get under my skin, though. The longer we go without finding him, the larger the threat becomes. I closed my eyes and resolutely decided on a plan of action in my head, before sleep claimed me.
