Chapter 5

The tall light-skin man had just called himself my husband and I stood there shocked.

“Excuse me… you are my husband?” I asked him. Was I not getting something right? When did I get mated with someone?

It might not have been clear as of then but it felt like she was mated to someone else.

“Yes. I am so glad to see you. Iris, I have missed you so much. How could you leave just like that?” He said to me as he engulfed me in a deep embrace for what seemed like a minute.

His b*dy felt warm and welcoming, almost as though he had genuinely missed me. I stood still, not wanting to interrupt this precious moment for _him. It felt intense for him and I did not want him to feel bad even though

I did not understand it myself.

He soon released from his grip and k*ssed my forehead.

“Where have you been? Why did you leave us? What happened to you? Where did you go?” He said as he looked into my eyes, his blue piercing eyes telling me that they had missed me so much.

But he didn’t miss me, he missed the owner of the b*dy I was in. It took a few minutes for that short intimacy moment to wear off before he finally

told me of our child.

“The whole pack has been worried sick about you and your sudden disappearance. I had Selena take care of our child. My love, nothing has been the same with your disappearance, I am so glad that you are back” he said once more before he engulfed me in another passionate hug.

It was followed by several fast pecks all over my face. I started to giggle.

“Let us go home. The whole pack awaits you” he said as he stared into my. eyes. I wanted to move but had suddenly hit my leg on a rock I had not noticed in front of me.

I whimpered in pain,” Ouch!” as I bent to have a look at the affected toe. My new mate comforted me as I heard him tell me sorry.

“Can you walk?” He asked again. I nodded but before I could open my mouth to affirm verbally that I could move, he already swept me off my feet, into his arms and started walking. I couldn’t help but laugh.

This was how it was meant to be.

This was how I remembered loving being.

I had not fully gotten to understand who I am or what I was doing here but the moment Vance carried me in his arms, I knew I had felt a similar feeling before. A feeling I had liked.

We had gotten to a village which Vance called Oakwood when he took me into a beautiful tent and laid me down on his bed. He asked a maid to bring me some water and told me to rest.

I looked around and saw how lovely the tent looked. It felt homely, just the way I would have loved. I was still resting when I watched a child run to

me.

Momma.. momma!” He called out. He ran to me and then embraced me. I was confused but I was soon reminded that he could have been the child. that Vance talked about. He must have been my son.

He looked bright and lively as he danced around the tent, celebrating my

return.

“Momma. I have heard so much about you from aunty Selena. She said. you were a powerful and great warrior. You were an amazing Luna and that was why you left me to help save your pack”, the little boy said.

I nodded to him after he spoke. Maybe that’s what I had done but I did but remember any of it.

My new mate entered the room while my son and I were discussing and ordered him out.

“Let your mother have some rest, she has just returned. Do not worry her

so much. Return to your tent, this instant he said to the little one.

The little one hung his head low as he slowly walked out of the room. He must have felt sad to not be allowed to stay with his mother. He was at the door when he turned to me and waved then said, “Everyone is happy now that you are here Mama. Please do not leave us again” and with that, he

ran off.

We both watched as he ran off and then, my mate then turned to me as he smiled.

“The boy has missed his mother and so has everyone else. Are you ready? I would like to show the pack that their Luna has returned”

I nodded as I attempted to get off my bed. I wanted to see for myself what was going on and how I could sort out my confusion.

I knew I felt at home, but I was still not totally comfortable.

“Alright, let us go. Hold onto my hand. I will take care of you” he said as he held me to my feet and gently placed my hand over his shoulder. I attempted to move and I moved without help. Vance had asked me if I still needed his help but I declined. My toe was already beginning to heal, I was told that it is a powerful werewolf after all.

“What powerful Luna wants to be seen limping?” I said to my mate as he smiled to me and replied, “the kind that saved her people a year ago. and appeared. You are allowed to be weak for once. You’ve been strong for all of us for too long” he said as he led me outside the tent.

We had walked a little further when we came to a gathering of a pof wolves. This must be the oakwood pack, I told myself. Vance and

The beta wolf of the oakwood pack asked everyone to calm down for h to speak. As he spoke, he began to chant a kind of song. It was a praise to me their Luna, Iris, for being a good Luna..

They said I was a very strong and powerful wolf that had the interest of the pack first before myself as I gave birth first and didn’t stay to nurse the child, I simply gave birth, gave the child to selene and went to fight.

Their beta wolf testified to having seen me on the battlefield. I led their squad. He said I fought with courage and strength. He said he admired me and loved the way I was dedicated to fighting till the end.

“Even when the opposition had outnumbered us, I watched as our brave Luna, Iris fought for us. She is truly an amazing Luna” he said.

Someone cheered and the pack members went wild again. I turned to look at the loon on Vance’s face and I could see how happy he was. He smiled at me and nodded. I smiled too as I thought of how happy I must have made them feel.

“But… something is strange here” someone interrupted the cheering with a Houd and deep voice. Everyone suddenly stopped. They started

murmuring.

“What do you mean by that?” The beta wolf asked. Vance sat upright in his chair. He suddenly had an interest in what the speaker had to say.

I watched everything with anxiety.

What was this man about to say?

He murmured again. “Speak up!” The beta wolf ordered him. “What do you have to say about our Luna?” His voice was louder than the last time.

“I mean.. I fought alongside Luna here and I saw when she was claw down. Her insides were ruptured when I glanced to see her and th why I left the battlefield and ran away.” He paused to sigh.

“My question is, how did our Luna survive that and why have we n her since then?” The man said as he took his seat in the crowd.

The beta wolf wanted to answer but my mate, Vance, decided to speak

first.

“Okay. It is time for me to come in.” He said as he cleared his throat to

speak. He glanced over at me as if to give me a reassuring smile and then he continued.

“So… you said you saw Luna over here, my beloved mate, Iris clawed down with her insides all flowing out to the floor? Is that alright?!”

“Yes. Alpha. I saw it with my two eyes!” The man in the crowd reaffirmed.

“Okay. And I want to understand you properly. So.. you saw your Luna on the ground being clawed down and you did nothing about it, instead you ran?!” He asked.

“No.. no.. no, Alpha. No. That was not what I meant. I saw her already. clawed down with her insides already outside and I ran away” he

answered.

“So you could not stand to help her or to save her?? Instead, you left her to die when you were not sure she was dead. Is that right?”

The pack members were suddenly quiet. The man who had asked the question was now silent. But Vance continued,

“I asked a question and I would be happy to receive a reply.”

ut no one spoke. Not a single word was heard. Seeing how he was able to calm everyone made me smile. This was the kind of man I was sure I would like. I nodded as I watched him continue his speech.

“We had lost our Luna and my beloved mate, Iris, for over a year. I had become depressed and worried and our son had lost his mother.

No one knew if she was dead or alive and our whole pack was left te of confusion “he paused for a deep breath, “and now, that she is o he pointed to me.

“Now that she is back in our midst, instead of us to be happy and th the moon goddess for her safe return, you are questions that are unc for”. He turned to me.

“Iris, my wonderful warrior and amazing Luna. I am glad you are home with us. The fact that you are alive is enough reason to be celebrated. “I

nodded and smiled. I could understand what he was going through. He must have lost the owner of this b*dy and was happy to have her back.

But I wasn’t her….

I watched as the man in the pack who had dared to question my return left his seat and walked to me. He had reached the podium and had climbed up when the alpha asked him what he needed.

“I wish to apologize to Luna for my rude behavior and my attempt to question her sudden appearance. I never meant to do such. I was just concerned” he said as he gave a slight bow. My mate, Vance, gave the signal. to the guards to let him pass and so he continued.

He walked up to me as the guards let him pass through and he got on his knees.

“Luna Iris. I never meant to question your authority, please forgive me. I wish to repent and have you bless me.” he said to me.

I nodded as I touched his back and muttered a silent prayer. I did not know the prayer ways of this pack and did not want to risk saying

something noticeable and have my identity compromised and so I quickly finished and asked him to go.

“Thank you” he said as he got back on feet, bowed to me and left. I watched him leave and watched as my mate, Vance walked to me.

“You are welcome back, my love. This time, the pack is with you and no one will take you away from me.” He said to me as he planted k*sses on my forehead. I smiled.

“If you’re not feeling this, why don’t we go back to the tent and do something good.”
