The Raspite Prince
Chapter 28

"Father wait, please." I watch as he turns and begins walking away from me. He pauses for a second turning back to get one last look.

"I love you my child and you have my blessing." I smile and he smiles back to me within seconds he is gone. I sit down in the darkness and close my eyes for a second then look up, I am in the room again, and I look around. The room is empty I can't see anything other than the bed which grew further and further away from me. I rose back to my feet and stare in disbelief. A void white space surrounds me. I go toward where the door is supposed to be. I turn back to find that even the bed is now gone. I am standing in the middle of an empty room. I look all around but still I see nothing. Dazed and a bit dizzy as everything around me seems to be spinning. That's when I realize I'm not awake. It is a new dream. I stand wondering what else the night has in store for me. My father did say he wasn't the only visitor I would have tonight. I wonder what is to come. Why is this happening to me? I look off into the distance and get lost in the emptiness for a second. I think that maybe my mother is visiting me now. But the longer I stand there the clearer everything around me becomes. I am now standing in a room that is somewhat familiar, but I can't figure out from where I am. It is a large room with a bed in the center and a fire place against the wall behind it.

"Well I must say my son has great taste in women. You are beautiful." I turn around and look. There before me stood Patrick's father. My heart feels as though it will stop knowing what this means.

"Mister Wolf. Does this mean that you have died?" I already knew that it did but I ask anyway. One of those things that come out rather you want it to or not.

"Yes my dear I finally feel no pain. I spent to long being sick." He says as he stood tall and proud before me.

"I didn't know I could heal if I could I would have helped you." I feel guilt for something I had no control over.

"My sweet child I accepted my fate long ago but I am not here to discuss that. There is something I must ask of you my dear." He says as he motions for me to come with him and we walk through unfamiliar halls together.

"If you have taken the time to come to me this way I will more than graciously take the time to speak with you." I politely respond as I walk with him just as regally as he did.

"My only son must take my place." He says and I look over at him. I knew Patrick had really not wanted to for some reason. He really hadn't gone into details about it all.

"Yes Patrick had said that you wished for him to. I don't know exactly what your family's business is but how do I make him take it over if he doesn't want to?" I ask looking at him.

"That may be easier than you think as he doesn't have a choice in the matter. It is our laws and he must obey." I look at him confused. I could not grasp at the moment what job would be so important that he could not refuse it.

"If he has no choice then what is it you need from me?" I look over at him as we both stop.

"I just want to ask you to love him no matter what is put before you. And from my understanding only now after I have passed, you must give yourself to him fully or the control you seek will not be gained otherwise. You have given yourself to him emotionally with your love, tomorrow you will give yourself to him mentally through the marriage, and then there will only be the physical." I look at him. I had already known that I had to give him my mind and spirit but the body part just hit me as he said it.

"Why did you choose to come to me, sir?" I ask looking at him as I already knew most of what he has told me.

"Just to ask you do not to be angry at him when things are brought to light. It was not his chose to do this." He says. What was Patrick hiding that would leave me so angry at him that his father would be this concerned about my reaction?

"To do what sir, I don't understand." I am more confused than ever now and I have no idea what is about to happen.

"He does love you this much I know. I will leave you now but remember this is not his idea and the part he is responsible for is only to love you." He says and walks away into the fading light in the distance.

"But wait what are you talking about? What do you mean? You and my father are worried about my reaction to something but neither of you will tell me anything." I yell a bit as the riddles and avoidance is killing me.

"You are impatient little one. But even the dead cannot interfere with fate. Tell him I am sorry and that I am proud of him and his sisters." I watch him fade into smoke and I gasp as the smoke entered my gapping mouth. I cough uncontrollably then fell backwards. With that he is gone and this time when I sit up in the bed I am dizzy I look around groggy at first. Everything is there and I stand up and walk over to the mirror staring at myself.

"What is going on?" I ask frustrated into tears as I put my head on my arms and try to calm myself. I hear Patrick's voice out in the sitting room. He is upset I guess he knew what had happened. I hear Melena trying to comfort him but he is extremely upset. I walk over to the closet and change out of my gown. I will not be seen by so many out of my proper attire. I stand at the door for a moment and take a deep breath hesitant to open it. What is Patrick hiding that would require both a visit from my father and his?

"If I hadn't come out on this mission I would have been there." I hear Patrick's voice and the pain he isn't even attempting to hide from those in the room with him.

"You couldn't have known that he would fade so quickly. We all knew that he was sick. He is at peace now. Please brother." I barely recognize Katherine's voice through the closed door that I still couldn't bring myself to open.

"He is the reason I became a doctor Patrick and yet with all I know, there was nothing that could have been done." They are talking back and forth as I listen for a few minutes.

"I am his only son you know what this means." He says.

"Patrick you knew this is how it worked." Melena's voice is a bit shaky as well.

"Yes I know but what about her." I'm not sure but I think he may have been talking about me.

"If she truly loves you maybe she will understand." Katherine says.

"Or get really pissed off and kill us all. You won't have to go home if she does." Melena says with a hint of joking in her voice.

"She isn't destructive. If you had really gotten to sit down with her, you would know that." He scolds as I stay quiet and listen to the three talk.

"I know I am sorry I was just making a joke Patrick, I didn't mean anything, I am sorry." She says. To admit it, it was a little bit funny.

"I didn't mean to yell at you I just, I don't want her to be angry with me over this." He responds. He must be really upset.

"And once she figures everything out she won't be furious? All of this was for her and she isn't as easy to fool as you think." Melena says back in hushed tones that are just loud enough for me to hear. What did she mean? Who is trying to fool me and why? What is it that both my father and his want me to know?

"I love her. I can't bare what has happened but it is what it is." Patrick says. Then silence fell for a moment or so as I stand behind my shield wondering if they know I am hearing everything they are saying.

"I know you love her; everyone would have to be blind not to know that Patrick. Is it enough though? Will she be able to love you after she finds out?" Kathrine ask I can hear some things crashing as I assume he is getting upset and threw something. I take another breath as they continue to talk I can't stand staying hidden any longer so I press the door button and it slid open.

"Patrick," I say through the doorway, I haven't wanted to be seen me before the wedding, however I feel it is necessary given the circumstances I want to know the truth. "Can I speak with you?" I stand in the doorway as all eyes now turn to me now.

"Oh Laoonica, we didn't mean to wake you." Katherine says as she stands and so did Melena who had both been sitting when the door opened. Patrick turns from across the room where there are books now scattered all over the floor next to the furthest book shelf.

"I woke on my own. I have to tell you something about your father. Alone may perhaps be better." I say looking at the two women who look at Patrick for directions. As if me asking isn't enough, they need him to confirm it.

"Sisters if you would excuse us please." He says and they both look at each other before they leave the room. I watch as they cut their eyes toward me with a look of fear at what is about to happen.

"You heard then." He asks me looking a bit calmer than he had sounded a few moments ago. I look at him as I try to prepare myself for whatever is about to come.

"Well not from your discussion. You see apparently I can communicate with spirits in my dream." He looks at me with his usual face that represents his confusion. I am not sure if he actually believes me or not by his face. "I know this may not seem real, that it sounds crazy, but it is true."

"I have seen some crazy things since I met you I don't doubt you I just don't quite understand. My father came to you when." He says as he moves towards me. I hadn't moved from the doorway of the bedroom. I am determined to get to the bottom of my dreams.

"Well he came to me sometime in the night time wise I am not completely sure, but for some reason your father asked me not to be angry with you as well. He would not tell me more. He asked me to tell you all that he is proud of you all of you. Please don't look at me that way." He has a strange smile on his face that makes me uncomfortable.

"You spoke with him in your dream as well?" he is right in front of me now as I look at him unchanged from my serious determination to find out the truth. As difficult as it is to keep from giving into his eyes and smile I stay focused.

"Yes, I have also spoke to my own father twice now." his expression remained a bit skeptical.

"And what did he have to say?" Patrick asks as he grips my hand and leads me to the couch. We sit together although I think standing might have worked better for what I had plan to ask him.

"The first time he was disappointed; the second time he gave me his blessing. Both my and your father have tried to warn me that something is about to happen that will be very bad." I look at him nervous about asking him. I will work up to it but he has succeeded in weakening me.

"What is wrong?" He could read me so easily. I really have to get better at hiding my thoughts from him.

"I want to know what you are hiding from me." His face went straight as he stands up and paces away then back to the couch. He didn't retake his seat but moved back and forth a few times.

"I can't tell you at this point, but I do love you and I want to marry you tomorrow. I need you to have control over your powers before I tell you everything." He kneels before me. I am still sitting on the couch and look down at him. It is quite a change from having to stretch my neck up to his eyes. He grips my hand and looks into my eyes. I am not satisfied with this answer as I look deep into his eyes.
