The perfect timing
Chapter 22

I woke up with sweat on my forehead and a dizzy feeling. This dream felt so real, which made it even worse, because it was after all just a dream. But what advice gave me the dream mother of mine? To wear the bracelet which probably was the one I inherited from them.

Looking down at my wrist I could clearly see it, with its golden color and the engraving. But was I being crazy for really wanting to wear it because a dream told me too? Probably. But still, I would wear it, because it was already attached to my arm, and it happened rarely that I took it off.

“Hey, you are awake,” my aunt said as she slowly opened the door and peeked into my room. “How are you feeling?”

“Better,” I answered, and it was the truth. My body felt more relaxed than before and my feelings weren’t such a mess as before.

“Maybe you just needed a good sleep,” Lily said with a smile and then just walked away to make us breakfast.

Maybe she was right; I haven’t slept that well in the last few weeks because there was so much on my mind. And the problems didn’t just disappear overnight, but I still could count on Lily and that gave me strength. I also loved that she didn’t ask me why I had cried in her arms and was asking me tons of questions. She was just there for me and I couldn’t ask for a better guardian. Lily knew if I really wanted to talk about it I would approach her.

After a few more minutes lying in my bed I got ready because I had plans for today. It was Kitty’s birthday after all and everyone would meet at the M.E at four. Why we would celebrate her birthday there instead of her amazing house was still beyond me, but who was I to complain?

So after getting breakfast with my aunt and taking a shower, I got out of our apartment and made my way to my first destination. It was still too early to go to the M.E., but I had another destination on my mind; Aiden’s house.

I made up my mind during a long hot shower and I really wanted to make up things with him. He was after all my best friend and had always been there for me. And I really missed him.

I wouldn’t tell him about everything, but I think he should know about a few things. I would tell him about the M.E, but not about the other super humans, including Kitty, Reece and Eric. I would just say that there were other persons like me. Well, that was the plan, and I hoped that my best friend would hear me out.

When I reached Aidens home I was still nervous, but I hoped for the best and rang the bell.

After a few seconds Aidens mother opened the door for me with a big smile and shooed me in. She was a lovely woman and after a bit of small talk, she told me that Aiden was in his room and I should just walk in.

As I was about to knock on his door, it suddenly opened and Aiden looked at me with an unreadable expression. We stared at each other for a moment and then he winked me into his room.

Aidens room was like always a mess and there were things lying around everywhere. But I was kind of happy about it because nothing had changed and so hadn’t Aiden. And when I looked at him again, I could see it. He was still angry at me, but our friendship was still strong and wouldn’t crumble because of a silly fight.

Then I took a deep breath and let everything out I wanted to say.

“I’m so sorry Aiden and please let me finish this before you say anything. I know I haven’t been a good best friend the last few weeks, and I was always too busy to spend time with you. But I’m so sorry for that. It is kind of complicated to tell you because my secret involves other people and I can’t tell you about them. But I want you to know about mine.” As I had finished, I was breathing heavily. I just blurred out everything in such haste that I was glad Aiden got everything.

Aiden, who had been quiet like I had begged me to be, had now a look of confusion and curiosity written on his face. He then patted the spot on his bed beside him and I let myself fall next to him.

After that I told him about the M.E and about other super humans that existed and also what had really happened with Nancy. I let a few details slip like the names of Reece, Kitty and Eric, but still tried to inform him with everything necessary.

Aiden listened eagerly. He was still fascinated with super humans, like he used to be as a kid.

And after I had let everything out he just said, “Wow.” Well, for the first few minutes and then it broke out of him as well.

“Celia I could never imagine that you were going through so much. And of course, I’m forgiving you.” At that statement I sighed happily and smiled. I didn’t lose my best friend.

“But why didn’t you tell me in the first place?” You know I’m always there for you and I would have understood, ” he told me with a sigh.

“I know, I know,” I answered. “I just thought it would be the best at that moment and thank you for forgiving me. ”

“No problem, but know you have to tell me more about it and I mean things you can tell me,” he added as he the look on my face. “How is it going with your power? Can you control them better now and did you stop time with another person around like with me the last time?”

Aiden was really too eager for his own good, but I answered every one of his question and his last one made me think more about my power. It was true that I still couldn’t control my powers, but what happened with Aiden that day never happened again and the question was why? Was it because it happened after me sleeping or because it was Aiden? Who knew the answer to that? I’m surely not. Well, but an idea formed in my head. I had to talk about this with professor Slade. Maybe he had an answer for this.

“So what are you going to do today?” my best friend asked me as he had satisfied himself after he had asked all the questions on his mind.

“I actually have to attend a birthday.” Aiden raised his eyebrows at this and he even laughed at my next words.

“It’s kitty’s birthday, and I promised to come,” I said and crossed my arms at the boys behavior.

“What’s so funny?” I questioned with a frown.

“Oh, it’s just that you are going to a birthday on your free will. That never happened before especially a girl’s birthday. I just can’t imagine you sitting there, watching movies with a bunch of girls and afterwards having a pillow fight and talking about boys.” By now Aiden was chortling, and I actually had to join him.

It was true a few month ago I wouldn’t have seen myself going to a birthday on my own. Because I didn’t like parties and all my close friends had been guys.

Then I started hitting Aiden onto his arm playfully. “Silly that just happens in movies and it isn’t a birthday only girls are allowed to.”

“Alright, alright,” Aiden said still chuckling and hold my arms away from him. “When is it starting?”

“At four o’clock.”

“You mean now,” my best friend said as he took a peak at the clock on his wall.

“What?” I shrieked and my head snapped towards the clock as well to take a look by myself. And he was right it already was four. I had been talking to Aiden for hours and hadn’t noticed.

“I have to go,” I then said and got up. “See you later Aiden,” I called out, already rushing out of the door. “See ya,” he screamed back, and I smiled to myself. At least I had cleared things with my best friend and that made me feel so much better.

It seemed like Kitty didn’t mind me being a bit late because so many people where already there. And by people I meant every superhuman that lived and worked in the M.E. and also people I had seen here. Well, it seemed liked that. The training hall was actually used as the room to celebrate and everything was decorated in bright colors. Just like I remembered Kitty’s room, and I was sure she loved it. It looked lovely and someone had a good eye for details.

My present also seemed to be her taste because she gave me a bone-crushing hug as I showed it to her and it was immediately attached onto her skin. It even matched her light blue dress, and I wanted to give Reece a knowing look, who was standing not so far away from us. But then I remembered that I should be furious at him because he wasn’t a help at all yesterday. On the other side I wasn’t really angry; since I had cleared things with Aiden I felt so much happier and didn’t want to hold a grudge onto anyone.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you,” Kitty smiled, and I smiled happily back at her. I was glad that she seemed to like my present.

“You’re welcome and it does match you dress,” I told her and her smile became even brighter, which seemed almost impossible.

“I know, I just thought the same thing,” she told me and we both laughed. It was true what Aiden had said earlier, it was a funny thing for me being on a girl’s birthday. But something had changed, and it was the fact that I now could call a girl my friend. Kitty Matthews.

“What is so funny? I want to laugh too,” a new person said coming into the picture.

“Just girl stuff,” Kitty answered Eric with a wink at me.

“Oh, come on,” he groaned in frustration playfully and they started to have a playful argument. Even I had to admit they were adorable together.

“You know, you should just let it go,” Kitty said to him after a while and I snickered at Eric’s pout. Then she turned around and pointed her finger at me. “And you should go and talk to my brother; he has been starring into our direction for about forever.” The girl could exaggerate with her statements.

After that she just pushed me lightly into the direction where Reece was standing and left with Eric on her side. I stared at Reece, unsure what to do. He wasn’t looking my way, but I was sure he had heard everything, because he was just a few steps away from me. Nevertheless, his head was now directed away from me and he was looking into the distance.

“And if you don’t want to talk to him talk to me,” a voice whispered suddenly into my ear and startled me.

It was the voice of Wyatt, the boy with the power to move things with his mind. He was sporting like always nice clothing and had a smug smile on his face. Only his chocolate brown hair was a bit longer, and he had tamed them with some hair gel.

“Wyatt don’t scare me like that,” I scolded him and his reply was a sorry with a boyish smile.

“So how have you been Celia?” Wyatt fired his next question at me. “We didn’t see each other that often, because you are always busy.”

“I’m fine,” I answered, even if it wasn’t the truth. But Wyatt didn’t seem to notice, because his attention was directed onto something else or more someone else, who was approaching us with an annoyed expression.

“Reece good to see you,” the boy greeted him.

“What are you doing?” was Reece only answer and Wyatt let a confused look appear on his face. It was clear he was playing a game with Reece and he wanted him to be as annoyed as he could get. Why the both of them didn’t get along was still a miracle to me because there had to be another reason to not just liking each other. In fact, Reece really seemed to be loathing him.

“Oh, just having a chit chat with the lovely Celia here,” Wyatt answered innocently.

Did he really just called me lovely; I asked myself and shaking my head in my mind? This was something Reece really wouldn’t be get annoyed with. Though I could be wrong, because Reece clenched his hands into fists and he was about to say something, which was probably not something nice, when a load irritating sound echoed through the building. It was so load that I wanted to smack my hands onto my ears, but I wasn’t able to do that, because Reece took a hold on to my hand and dragged me towards his sister.

He then also took her hands and pulled us behind him. I looked at Kitty, whose eyes were big and frightened and I knew something was definitely wrong. But was Reece also protecting me after all I had said to him? He must be because I wouldn’t be standing behind him if he didn’t care about me.

My thoughts were interrupted when the noise suddenly stopped and it was really quiet. Everyone was holding their breath and was looking around, to made out the danger. And that was the moment she had her appearance. Just walking through the door like it was nothing, and she owned the world. It was the girl who we thought had disappeared.

She looked around with a tiny smile on her lips and just said innocently, “Ups, that was probably my fault.”
