The perfect timing
Chapter 10

The both of us then got out of the elevator which doors immediately closed after we had left it. Kitty and Eric still stared at us especially at me, however more in curiosity than anything else.

I badly wanted to run towards them and ask these two so many questions, which were bubbling inside my head, but before I even had the chance to think my thoughts to an end, a woman in her mid-forties appeared out of nowhere.

As well as the receptionist Courtney, she was wearing a beautiful, but at the same time classy dress. Hers was red instead of blue, matching her red full lips. Surprisingly, her hair had the same color as Reece’s hair and her eyes had the same blue color as Kitty’s eyes. She was their mother there was no doubt about it.

Nevertheless, she looked more like a model out of a magazine than anything else. You could tell where Reece and Kitty had their good looks from.

“You must be Celia,” she welcomed me with a warm smile, however it didn’t reach her eyes.

Now all eyes were on her as she gracefully walked towards me, only stopping as she was standing a few inches away from me.

Without waiting for an answer she went on. “Come on, I will show you around,” and put a perfectly manicured finger on my back to tell me to follow her.

I was about to protest and tell her I had so many questions, but she gave me another tight smile and said she would explain everything later, which shut me up for now.

The woman then ushered me to the first door which opened on its own as we approached. Reece was just a few steps behind us, ready to go along with us, though his mother stopped him by raising her index finger.

“Reece, you don’t need to accompany us. We will meet the three of you.” She made a hand gesture at her daughter, son and Eric,” in the meeting room.”

Her voice was soft, but you could hear the final and strict tone, which she was talking in. And he let us go with a last nod towards me, obliging his mother request.

“I’m Juliette by the way,” she told me before we stepped through the first door in our tour, leaving the three people behind.

I nodded in acknowledge and answered, my lips turning into a straight line. “I’m Celia, though you already seem to know this.”

“Yes, I do. Reece told me about you and his assumption that you are superhuman.”

“He did?” I asked surprised, watching her expression, but it didn’t falter a bit.

“Yes,” she replied as a one-word and last answer about this topic.

I never imagined Reece talking about me with his mother or even with anybody else. Well, I also never imagined being in a place like this.

We were standing now in the middle of an exposed room. In every corner of the room and almost everywhere electronic equipment was standing. From computers, TV’s up to things I couldn’t name and make out or even had the slightest idea what people used them for. This room was amazing, and it immediately fascinated me. For a moment Juliette just let me have a look around the room before she talked again.

“This is our science and technology laboratory, where we take care of everybody in our institution and make researches. For example if somebody gets ill or hurt,” she added with a proud smile, gesturing at the different equipment.

“We will also examine you to find out more about your power,” she told me and added at the same breath. “Only if you are willing too.”

“It won’t hurt and only if you are comfortable with it.”

“You are able to do that?” I asked astonished, thinking about all the possibilities and didn’t deny that I have an extraordinary ability in the first place. Maybe they could also tell me why I couldn’t control my power and why I had them.

“Of course, we can do that,” she answered immediately. “You are not the first superhuman,” she laughed kindly.

“Do you want to go to the next room?”

I nodded eagerly with a new enthusiasm, excited to see and learn more. Everything in here was like a dream, I never wanted to wake up from.

The next room we entered was more like a hallway, with many doors and numbers on top. Juliette walked rightwards, and I followed her, a step behind, because I was watching everything more closely.

People also walked through the hallway, either on their own or in small groups. Some of them gave me curious stares, and I again asked myself if they have superpowers too. And what power they could have.

“These are our dorms,” Juliette told me, pointing at the few doors, I already noticed.

“Some super human’s life, train and eat here,” she added and at the same time nodded at a man, who was passing by. He also nodded at her with his head and then continued walking.

“They train here?” I questioned raising my eyebrow.

“Yes, most teenagers have to learn to control their power or just want to improve them,” she told me mentioning at a few kids, who were standing near, engrossed in their own conversation, so they didn’t notice us passing by.

“You actually don’t know much about our kind,” she stated with a small frown, I wasn’t sure if I only imaged it or if it was really there for a moment.

Our next destination seemed to be the meeting room, because Reece, Kitty and Eric were waiting in there.

“I didn’t actually know that other people with powers existed,” I confessed.

It had also not escaped my attention that Juliette said “our”. So she must be superhuman too, which explained, why she was here and knew so much about everything.

The woman nodded and then walked towards the spot where her kids and Eric were standing. Kitty immediately jumped out of her seat as she notice us and shouted out, “Why didn’t you tell me that you have superpowers too?”

She even pouted as we reached her. I actually had to chuckle at her words. What did she expect me to do? Confessing that I could stop the time? Every normal person would have called me a freak.

I then answered scratching me head. “I didn’t know, there are other people like me.”

Kitty’s eyes widened at my confession and she pursed her lips in surprise. “You didn’t?”

I shook my head and suddenly Reece voice barged in. “So you believe me now?”

I turned my head towards the boy who had been quiet all the time I was talking to Kitty and was casually leaning against a wall and answered truthfully. “I actually always believed you.”

His eyes grew big at my confession and he blinked several times before he backed away from the wall and made his way towards us. Eric also got up from his seat and joined us, putting one hand on Kitty’s and one hand on my shoulder.

“Welcome and we are happy to have you here,” Eric told me with a sincere smile and I smiled gratefully back in return for his warm words.

He definitely had changed for good over the years and was now a new person. Juliette, who had been quiet since Kitty started talking with me, suddenly spoke.

“Well, it is good to see that the four of you seem to get along with each other,” she said gesturing between us. “Let us have a seat and answer all of Celia’s questions together,” the mother demanded and in no time the five of us were seated at the large and only table in the meeting room.

Kitty was sitting on my left, next to her Eric and Reece on my right and next to him his mother, which I was also facing. It was now quiet, and they looked at me expectantly, waiting for me to speak.

“I actually don’t know where to start,” I admitted.

“Take your time,” Eric commented kindly and with a laugh. I also noticed the smile Kitty was giving him, which he returned with one of his own.

But I wasn’t the only one because Reece narrowed his eyes at his sisters action and didn’t look to happy about the fact that Kitty seemed to like the guy.

“Okay,” I said thinking for a moment, until I found the first perfect question to ask. “You told me that there are other super humans and I want to know, how much and what this here is exactly,” I told them pointing with my hand around the room, though not exactly at one thing in particular.

Kitty was the first one to answer. “Nobody exactly knows how many super humans live all over the earth, but there are about twenty we know of in our environment. Including us,” she added gesturing around the table.

I wanted to smack myself at the realization as I looked at all of their faces and my gaze stopped at Reece. Of course he had to be superhuman too, but the thought actually never had crossed my mind before. Now I felt kind of dump and tried to hide my surprise at my awareness.

Reece raised his eyebrow as he noticed me staring at him and I immediately averted my gaze of him.

“And this company was founded by my husband and me, for super humans to help each other, work together and find new ones like you to clarify them,” Juliette went on and I was hanging on her lips eager to know more.

“We also protect each other and human beings,” she added, and I wanted to ask her, who they needed protection of. But she answered my question in her next sentence.

“There are a few of our kind and also a few humans who know about us, who want to govern the world and subject the rest of the population. So we made it to our task to protect them and fight against such people,” she told me seriously, when suddenly a thought came to my mind.

“Like the person who attacked me earlier this day?” my head turned towards Reece, until his mother barked out, “What?”

She also turned her attention at her son for an explanation. “Why didn’t you tell me Reece?” she wanted to know, authority and fury leaching out of her voice.

Reece face hardened at her blame and he got furious out of his seat. “There was no time to tell you mother, because as I turned up with Celia, you immediately disappeared with her,” he told her, pointing at my face at his words.

Juliette took a deep breath before she began to talk. “Alright Reece, calm down and have a seat,” she huffed out, putting a loose strand behind her ear and it was now clear where Reece had his short temper from.

“We will talk about this later,” she added pursing her lips and Reece slightly nodded and was about to sit down again, when suddenly the doors opened and a guy with short brown hair walked in.

As he approached us with a smug smile, I thought he was playing with a Rubik’s cube in his hands, but at a second look I had to realize that his toy was flying in the air. How was he able to do this?

And as he moved his hands, his toy moved with him and into the same direction. I felt my mouth hanging open at the sight in front of me and I couldn’t stop staring at the boy who didn’t look much older than any of us.

“What do you want Wyatt?” Reece asked annoyed, glaring at the boy’s presence.

The boy named Wyatt didn’t seem to be offended by Reece harsh words and his gaze fixed on me as he spoke. He was now standing next to our table, still playing with his Rubik’s Cube and moving it up and down with ease.

“Well, I heard there is a new arrival,” he answered smiling brightly at me and looking directly into my eyes, which run shivers down my spine. His gaze was that intense.

“And I couldn’t wait to see him or her,” he added.

At his words Reece clenched his fists, and I didn’t understand what his problem was, nevertheless I wanted to know why he was acting like that. They must have a history with each other. One, that wasn’t so flowery and nice.

“You will have enough time to get to know her Wyatt,” Juliette suddenly butted in and he smiled at her words. “But now I think Celia should leave and visit us tomorrow again.”

I nodded at her words, though nobody was paying attention to me, because they were too occupied to watch Reece and Wyatt. I also remembered Nancy and that I just left her in the bakery and abruptly got out of my seat, my chair scratching loudly at my movement.

“I really have to go,” I told them, but my words were addressed at Juliette. She nodded in understanding and said with a serious voice not taking a no as an answer “Reece will escort you out of the building and we will see each other tomorrow!”

But Reece was still glaring daggers at Wyatt, who was only smiling at him in return. So I grabbed his hand and pulled him out of the room. But not before waving Kitty and Eric goodbye and saying a “See you tomorrow”.

For a second Reece was surprised at my action, but then got his emotions together and lead me out of the building in silence. In front of Matthew enterprise I thanked him for escorting me and left him standing there without another word. I only saw the small frown on his face at my action before I run away as fast as my legs could carry me towards the bakery, hoping that Nancy was fine, because if she wasn’t I wouldn’t forgive myself. After all, I was the one who just left her and went with Reece even if I had my reasons.
